chapter 25
25 – Anna Margret – 1
In the classroom where the basic swordsmanship class is held after an hour.
Me and Raina were sitting across the desk.
There were no other people around.
“Princess Ike.”
“… I’m sorry for talking about you earlier.”
“It’s okay. I’m used to other people talking about me. Isn’t Prince Ike the same?”
“That’s right.”
Because the mere fact of being the deficit of the second duke’s family became a topic of conversation, Reina’s words were understandable enough.
“Then, the reason for calling is different?”
“To deliver this.”
Reina put her hand in her arms and pulled out something from her and handed it to me.
“A letter?”
“Yes. This is a letter Anna sent to Prince Ike when she left Roselia.”
“… Aren’t you leaving?”
Reina quietly nodded her head.
In the corner of the letter I received, it was clearly written ‘Dear Ike’.
“Wouldn’t it have been better to send it to the magical mailbox?”
Anna left before I trained to increase my magical path.
In that case, I would have had enough time to spend.
“No matter what happens, it was written in my letter to meet Prince Ike in person and tell him.”
Is it a letter that other people shouldn’t see?
The magic mailbox is a magic tool that is easy for other people to interfere with.
Of course, such a thing is rare, but the possibility could not be completely ruled out.
We were also conscious of that, so we always used honorifics in our letters.
“Maybe, Reina. Did you read it too?”
Reina gently closed her eyes and shook her head slowly.
“There was also Anna’s trustworthy order not to read it.”
A letter that even Reina shouldn’t read.
I had a hunch that the reason for Anna’s sudden disappearance was written here.
“I thought about just disposing of it because I lost contact with Prince Ike, but she didn’t want to make her regret it, so I left it. I ended up handing it over like this.”
“Thank you.”
“What. It turns out that the letter I’ve kept this far could be a letter for a simple tryst.”
“That’s not going to happen.”
I naturally smiled bitterly at Reina’s joke.
It didn’t feel like the old days, but I wonder if it’s okay to think that this has improved a lot.
“I have to stop by the dormitory for a while, so I will go out. There is about an hour left until class starts, but please be careful in case other people enter.”
“Okay.”
After Reina gently lowered her head, she left the classroom.
And then I broke the seal on the envelope from Anna and slowly unfolded the paper.
The content of the letter was something I had never imagined.

After the first day of classes, I went straight to the dean’s office without hesitation.
“Dean Ender. Is it okay if I come in?”
“… Come in.”
After a short gap, his permission was granted.
I immediately opened the door and entered the room.
A table was set in the center of the room, and various refreshments were placed on it.
It was like his office, which always welcomed conversations with students in the original work.
“You must be Ike. Any help?”
“Oh, yes. Thank you It really helped me a lot.”
When I had a conversation with Raina in her consulting room in the morning.
If it wasn’t for the completely isolated counseling room, she wouldn’t have let out her emotions that much at the end.
In a place where someone could suddenly appear, Reina would use honorifics even if it was just the two of us.
“I’m glad I was helpful. How about Miss Reina?”
“I think it’s gotten pretty good, if not completely.”
After hearing my answer, Dean Ender smiled softly.
I thought I could see why he was called a teacher by other students.
“Did you come to report that?”
“… One more. Would it be okay if I asked you a favor?”
“Let’s listen. What kind of request is it?”
“Please allow me to go out this weekend.”
In Arcana, you can’t even go out lightly without permission.
Even this permit is not easily given away.
Most of the problems could have been solved by being in Arcana.
The huge facilities in the site were designed to minimize going out.
Arcana Academy was built to foster talented people.
Those strict restrictions were in order to prevent things like leakage of the academy facilities and the lobby of nobles meeting outside.
The dean of Arcana becoming the lord of Reinen.
The reason why Reinen was the only self-governing province in the Empire was to prevent such things.
“Ike. Do you know that it is not easy to go out in Arcana?”
“Yes. That is why I am requesting it directly.”
“What is the purpose?”
“I can’t speak.”
“Ha ha.”
At my hesitant reply, Dean Ender sighed.
I know he’s someone you can trust.
Still, I couldn’t say this much.
“Is it related to Miss Reina?”
“No.”
It wasn’t a lie.
To be precise, this was about Anna.
The results just lead to work for Reina.
“No. I can’t allow it even if it’s something related to Ray or Miss, but if it’s not even that, I have nothing to say.”
“I have to go out this weekend no matter what.”
“Ike. No matter what you say, my answer won’t change. Just as a house collapses with a small hole, if there is one exception, the rules that have been built up so far will collapse.”
Dean Ender’s words were a perfect theory, and I couldn’t refute that claim.
But there was a way to get permission.
It was a method I really hated to use.
“A miracle always comes unexpectedly. It is only up to you to obtain it.”
As I said that sentence, Dean Ender glared at me with his eyes wide open.
It was an expression as if he had seen something unbelievable.
“… You. Where the hell did you hear that?”
“Okay. I can’t tell.”
It was to deceive Dean Ender, but there was no choice.
Because I would never be able to get permission from him in the usual way.
“If you have a relationship with him, there’s no way I wouldn’t know. Are you saying you can’t tell me?”
“Yes.”
Because there is no relationship.
You can’t say it’s the relationship between the reader and the character.
“… Got it. I’m allowed to go out this weekend for just this one time. If you have any relationship with him, it must be a request with a reason.”
Dean Ender glared at me with a disapproving expression.
I felt like I could hear my trust falling in his mind.
With a sense of regret, I bowed my head to Dean Ender and left the office.
There is a religion called Martires in this world.
Serves Eos, the creator god, and has enormous authority as the only religion.
Even if it was the Astraea Empire, it was almost impossible to directly interfere with Martires.
And the saintess meant a woman who was chosen by the creator god, Eos.
The sentence I just said was a habit of the saintess of the past that only a few people knew.
And Dean Ender was one of those very few.
Sophia’s recognition as a saint in the future begins when she casually mumbles those words in front of Dean Ender.
So I didn’t want to use this method.
Because if I said this, the future could be completely twisted.
But I couldn’t stop for that reason.
Starting with the goal of saving Reina.
The reason I want to go out on the weekend is to change the future.
I never knew how twisted the story would be.
At least now I could only understand that a lot of things would change as I moved.
There was no guilt whatsoever.
At most, I was worried that I might be a nuisance to Sophia.
That would be too.
From now on, my job is not just to save Raina and Anna.
In the end, it was to prevent countless lives from losing in Arcana.
★
Dear Ike.
Hello.
I am Anna Margret, living as Raina-sama’s exclusive maid.
But now I think I will be leaving Reina-sama for a while or a very long time.
Originally, I had no intention of doing this.
I was going to atone for my sins by walking alongside Reina-sama.
It was an oath that should not be broken.
But now I am about to break that oath.
The reason is the promise I made with Ike.
You told me when you left Heros.

Please protect Reina-sama no matter what.
I swore to atone for my sins by walking alongside Reina-sama.
A promise to protect Reina.
Funny story, but one must give up.
Of course, it’s my honest wish to choose both, but if something happens to Reina-sama, I don’t have the confidence to live on.
So I intend to break my oath.
Lastly, let’s talk about the past for a moment.
I belong to a group of assassins. It was a body that belonged to Avatar.
This is an outrageous story.
But Ike, reading this letter, I think you understand what I mean.
When I secretly followed Ike at the market last month on Reina-sama’s orders.
I was taken aback by the thick smell of blood coming from Mr. Ike’s body coming out of the nooks and crannies.
And when I asked about it, he told me to see and judge for myself.
I was shocked.
Since the limbs are strewn about, and the cross-section of the neatly cut neck shows little hesitation.
At first I thought it was murder.
I wondered if he was trying to buy time to escape when he said to judge for himself.
But when I saw the tattoo of a snake and thorns strangling a lion on the corpse’s right shoulder, I understood what it meant.
To be honest, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t suspicious.
I wonder how Ike, the heir to the Duke of Access, knows about Avatar.
I’m curious as to why you brought up Reina’s name there because you knew what.
But I won’t ask any questions.
I believe it is to protect him.
I intend to return to Avatar from now on.
As if they had no intention of forgiving me for betraying their organization, they continued to carry out ambush even after I became a member of the Roselia duchy.
Rogelia wasn’t going to fall to them, a group of assassins at best, but it’s a trend that’s getting more and more frequent lately.
The quality of the Assassins is gradually improving.
I wasn’t sure I could keep him perfectly under these circumstances.

Perhaps if I go back, the ambush will stop.
I don’t know much about the information of the organization called Avatar, but they are buying as high as I am, so the terms of the deal should be sufficient.
So until I come back, I hope Ike-nim will protect Reina-nim.
No matter what.
