I Stayed Loyal When My Teacher Was Betrayed

chapter 7

7 – Adventurer’s Despair Part 3

“Oh, I’m done for!!! This filthy demon tried to kill me!!!”

Gloss screamed at the top of his lungs.

However, just by looking at him, I could instantly tell.

This was a scheme, not driven by fear, but rather an attempt to manipulate people in some way.

“What are you all doing? Quickly call the guards! Quick! There are demons infiltrating here and trying to kill people!”

Compared to the previous situation, he was shamelessly playing the victim.

However, his outburst seemed to have some effect.

“Ho…how did demons get here?”

“Could it be they are attacking us like this…”

“We…shouldn’t we call the guards?”

Regardless of the circumstances, demons were inherently enemies of the free races.

The unexpected appearance of such devils created a tremendous commotion.

If this hadn’t been a situation where Gloss was perpetrating evil deeds, there might have been those who immediately launched an attack.

However, amidst this momentary confusion, I didn’t particularly worry.

No, instead, I inwardly smiled, as everything was going as expected.

The reason for that was…

“Good job. Withdraw now.”

“Yes, understood, Master.”

A person stepped forward from among the crowd and issued orders with a serious voice.

My mentor.

Rosemary Hendrick.

As I respectfully bowed my head towards her, the attention of the people, who were previously shaken by the appearance of demons, shifted towards her.

“Oh, and bring that bag over there. I might forget about it later.”

“Yes, understood, Master.”

“What…what’s with that person?”

“Seems like a witch… Could it be that she’s controlling these demons?”

A human witch naturally giving instructions to me, a demon.

Her actions of commanding that powerful demon as if she were a servant caught the attention of the onlookers.

People were captivated by curiosity, wonder, and fascination instead of the fear they had just felt.

“Really? That violent demon is moving according to the witch’s orders.”

“Come to think of it, there are people who actually work for demons. Could this be a similar case?”

“That may be so, but…It’s fascinating. I’ve never seen someone who commands demons.”

“In order to work for demons…how remarkable must that person be?”

The city of Carmel, home to adventurers.

Like anywhere else, there was an even greater interest in those who were powerful.

Especially if it was a mysterious figure who ruled over the powerful presence of demons.

The atmosphere reversed in an instant.

Rosemary the teacher spoke towards the shocked Gloss with a shocked expression.

“It seems like my demon’s status has been raised.”

“Yes…you…ugh…!”

Now that the tense atmosphere had been shattered, Gloss started to express confusion and anger.

The teacher spoke to him in a cold voice.

“There’s not much to say since this is your own doing. That being said, if someone like you becomes an executive of the adventurer’s guild, do you think your shame will disappear once you reach a higher position?”

“…You…You, you bastard…Ggueehh!!”

After muttering a curse in a quiet voice, the teacher kicked Gloss’s shoulder.

Following that, she landed another blow in the location where he was injured, causing him unbearable pain.

From Gloss’s mouth came the sound of a pig’s scream again.

“Gguekk…I…I’ll remember this. I…I won’t just let this go.”

Gloss stood up, stumbling, and also warned the crowd as he shoved his way through them and disappeared from the square.

After the human who stirred up trouble and instigated until the end disappeared,

I approached the maid with silver hair who was lying on the ground,

She was called Bernia.

She was still trembling as if the shock from earlier had yet to dissipate.

For some reason, her appearance felt different from that of any other woman, and I politely asked her:

“Are you okay?”

“Ah…yes…I

My hand extended cautiously.

Upon seeing this, she hesitated for a moment but soon took my hand gently and stood up from her seat.

“T-Thank you. I owe you my life.”

Still visibly tense, she expressed her gratitude with a hesitant voice.

Her slightly flushed face and trembling eyes.

There seemed to still be a considerable burden in the fact that I was a demon standing before her, but despite this, I smiled normally and spoke to her with utmost politeness.

“Helping someone in trouble is only natural. Please don’t be too concerned.”

“Ah…”

A line of dialogue that would be difficult to imagine from an ordinary demon.

Seemingly taken aback by my words, she looked at me with a slightly dazed expression, and as planned…

I smiled inwardly at the fact that everything was going as expected, or more accurately, as planned by myself and my teacher.

“With this, our reputation in this city should spread somewhat. At least, to the point where I won’t have to be constantly wary or get into fights for being a demon…”

To eliminate the fear, there was a way to hide the subject, but it was easier to remove the unknown factor that was the root of the fear.

The reason we chose to reveal my true identity and get involved in this incident was precisely for that reason.

Although it started from my stubborn desire to help that woman in distress.

“Huh? But… when I intimidated that Gloss guy earlier, he definitely…”

A fleeting moment of doubt.

However, my thoughts were interrupted by an unexpected voice.

“U-Um!”

“?”

A maid calling out to me in a desperate voice.

Still showing signs of tension, she asked me carefully.

“Could… could I know your name? I want to properly show my gratitude later…”

I had no intention of asking for compensation, having achieved my own goals in this matter.

But if the purpose was to spread the story, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to reveal my name in order to achieve that goal.

With that conclusion in mind, I smiled again and told her my “name.”

“My name is… Edmund Amanta.”

“Edmund… Amanta.”

A new name created to conceal his identity.

The maid whispered quietly.

Then.

“Let’s go now, I’ll be late for our appointment time.”

“Yes, master.”

The teacher’s words seemed to have a bit of force for some reason.

Following the woman who got up from her seat, I walked along with her footsteps.

I no longer paid attention to the maid who had not taken her eyes off me since earlier.

*

Rosemary and Edward leave the square after sorting out the situation.

The fact that everything went smoothly according to plan made Edward’s steps quite light.

However,

The person who worked with him at this moment.

Rosemary’s mind wasn’t so light.

“That was just now… What on earth…”

The magic Edward used.

It was something that even Rosemary had never seen before.

Although she vaguely remembered Edward trying to explain a similar story, she did not fully understand it at the time.

Edward’s explanation skills were truly hopeless… But above all, there were elements that she could not understand.

“Blood has iron in it… That doesn’t even make sense…”

A strange story that could not be accepted logically.

However, Edward’s magic, which contained this theory that she could not understand, actually became reality and activated normally.

A blade actually sprang from the shoulder of the man named Gloss.

It was completely different from simple teleportation.

It looked like he was really creating a sword inside his body.

And this fact made Rosemary think again about the things Edward had shown her in the past.

“I wonder if all the incomprehensible theories Edward has been talking about until now are true?”

Even though it was hard to believe, it seemed unlikely that it would only be to that extent.

At least Rosemary felt the need to seriously contemplate that part again.

“Perhaps… it might be much more impressive than what I had in mind…”

A new type of magic, different from existing theories.

As a witch who explores magic, she couldn’t help but be interested.

Of course, there was the drawback of having to digest her apprentice’s despairing explanation to know the precise details…

But at this point, with possibilities beginning to emerge, she could tolerate that to a sufficient extent.

“I should ask for a separate laboratory while working on this. A place where Edward and I can talk undisturbed by others…?”

In that moment, a strange sensation suddenly started to be felt.

Right now, she was merely imagining scenes of spending time with her apprentice inside her head.

However, along with thinking about those scenes…

Rosemary began to feel a fluttering in a corner of her heart, as if something was captivating her.

“What… what is this? Why do I feel so strongly about something like this with just…”

A warm yet gentle excitement seemed to be present.

Feeling puzzled and confused by this inexplicable sensation.

Rosemary unknowingly slapped her cheeks with both hands.

-Slap!

“Why are you doing that, Master?”

“Huh? Oh… no… it’s nothing…”

Edward wore a slightly surprised expression due to her sudden actions.

To this, Rosemary responded with a somewhat awkward voice.

“W-well… yes… It must be because of that… Excitement I felt after learning new magic… How silly of me. No matter how obsessed I am with magic, I didn’t expect it to be to this extent.”

Rosemary tried her best to calm her racing heart by coming up with a reasonable hypothesis.

But at this moment, she didn’t realize.

Throughout these thoughts,

she failed to notice herself unable to take her eyes off her apprentice beside her.
