Chapter 34: Canbina Coast (4)
“KEEEEEEEEEEEE!”
Krebiel’s scream echoed off the shore as it attempted to pounce on Alex.
Whether it was surprise at the destruction of his left claw, or the pain of losing it, it didn’t matter.
What matters is that Krebiel is still alive.
He’s too tricky a creature for me to simply destroy on my own.
It was a blow that caught him off guard, as his left hand is relatively weak and he hadn’t noticed my presence.
Even if I were to use the same method again, my magic would do little more than scratch its body, which means that someone who can deliver a killing blow other than me will have to finish the job.
And there’s only one person in this place who can do that.
“Alex!”
Alex’s holy sword and his magic-enhanced body should be able to do enough damage to take him down.
Of course, he’ll have a hard time doing it alone, and he’ll need my help.
“Alex, Krebiel’s weakness is his stomach! His armor is thinner around that area than the rest of him, so if you can get your sword into the gaps, we can take him down!”
“Got it!”
Hearing my words, Alex started running straight for Krebiel abdomen.
Perhaps if we kill the boss, the other smaller creatures will return to the sea on their own, so we focus on taking down the one in front of us.
With that thought, I hurried over to the shore where Krebiel was.
“Lady Ariana, it’s dangerous!”
When Elise saw me running forward, she quickly tried to stop me, but this is an opponent we won’t be able to defeat if I don’t step forward.
In order to stab the stomach of a guy stuck on the floor, it was necessary to guide him into a pattern that would make him lift his abdomen and attack.
And since I was the last person to feed him an attack, the aggro is also tied to me.
I had to guide it, and I was the only one who could do it.
“KEEEEEEEEEE!!!”
I only have one more magic left to use, maybe two so I had to choose carefully where to use my remaining magic.
Seeing that I was getting closer, the aggro-dragged Krebiel let out a bizarre cry and began to move towards me.
…It was intimidating.
“Ariana, you’re in danger!”
“I’m fine, just get closer to Krebiel’s body!”
This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it was going to get pretty tricky if he missed it.
Luckily, Alex realizes this, and he quickly attaches himself back to the Krebiel’s body.
Krebiel’s right claw was raised high in the air, signaling that it was about to launch a slashing attack at me.
“Now, Alex!”
Now that Krebiel’s body was in the air, it was my only chance to land a valid attack on the creature.
It was a bit too far for Alex’s magic and physical abilities, but I had an idea.
“Jump as high as you can, and I’ll ‘reach’ him!”
As he heard me, Alex’s body rose high into the air.
Body enhancement from magic and updraft from wind magic combined with Alex’s own physical abilities, lifted his body nearly five meters.
Even so, he still had another three meters to go before he could reach Krebiel’s weak point.
This is where my creation magic would come into play.
As soon as I cast the spell, a flat foothold of dark magic formed beneath Alex’s feet as he levitated into the air.
“One more jump, Alex!”
Using my foothold as a jumping off point, Alex’s body rose high once more, and his sword finally came close enough to touch the crack in Krebiel’s abdomen.
-Kwazik.
Even though it was quite a distance away, the sound of Alex’s sword slamming into Krebiel’s abdomen was clearly audible.
“Aaah!”
Unable to finish the cry it was about to utter, the giant creature slowly lurched forward with Alex’s holy sword still embedded in its abdomen.
Once I saw Krebiel’s body tilt, I quickly moved away from the behemoth to avoid being caught in the final aftermath.
Dale and Elise, realizing the situation, also hurried away from the battlefield.
Alex, who was still attached to Krebiel’s body, kicked the creature in midair and leapt to safety.
The only ones who hadn’t been evacuated were the few mobs that hadn’t yet realized the situation.
-Thud.
The behemoth fell on the ground, never to rise again.
Well, that’s one done, for now.
* * *
After somehow defeating Krebiel, the other creatures that had lost their leader also returned to the sea, as expected.
I wonder if I’ll have to cast another spell, just in case, but at least that’s all I have to do today.
Now all that’s left is to clean up.
The monsters will take care of the carcasses of the fallen creatures if left alone, but I can’t let the materials I’ve worked so hard to obtain just disappear.
Krebiel’s exoskeleton is light and hard, making it suitable for polishing into armor, and its intestines can be used to extract ingredients for a potion used to restore magic power.
The most important of all the materials, though, is this right claw in my hand.
“Mmmmm~!!”
As the delicious flavor of the sea filled my mouth, I couldn’t help but squeal.
Since it’s the most frequently used organ, it has fine muscle tissue, and as a result, its elasticity and flavor are overwhelmingly better than other parts.
Because it was such a huge beast, the chunks of crab meat from the right claw alone were more than enough to feed five people.
Crabmeat grilled, crabmeat pasta, crabmeat soup, crabmeat risotto.
It was a meal of luxury.
It’s a meal that tastes even better when you know you’ve gone through a lot to get there.
“I’m glad you’re enjoying it, Lady Ariana.”
I take another bite, savoring the flavors, and feel the eyes of the others focused on me.
“Gosh, thank you, Maybelle is a good cook, too.”
“I only know how to cook a little seafood, but I’m glad you enjoyed it.”
“Ariana can certainly eat anything, and I’m not just saying that because I’m sure she’s full just watching her eat.”
I’m not sure if being complimented on your eating is a good thing as a duchess, but it’s coming from Alex, so I’ll take it as a compliment.
“Here, Ariana, eat some more pasta.”
“I, I’ll eat it, Alex. Everyone’s watching.”
“Since when do you care about that?”
“Well, I do care!”
I made a timid attempt at resistance as Alex unabashedly brought the dried pasta to my mouth, but he remained stubborn and refused to back down.
“Ah~ do it, Ariana. Ah~.”
“Ah, ah….”
I kept my eyes closed and my mouth open to forget my embarrassment, and instead of focusing on the other person’s gaze, I focused on the texture and flavor of the food in my mouth.
…Sure enough, this is delicious.
Though with the direction of the gaze I could feel even with my eyes closed, I didn’t have any time to take in the details of flavor or texture.
“What do you like next, grilled or risotto?”
“I prefer to eat it myself….”
As I half-gave up and took food from Alex like a baby bird, a question suddenly popped into my head.
I’m not questioning that killing demons, including Krebiel, on the shores of Canbina it’s a necessary act, but I can’t shake the fact that something feels off about it.
There will be a demonic proliferation off the coast of Canbina and that it’s going to be a dangerous one, one that ordinary humans can’t deal with.
The question was how Alex knew about the event in advance.
After all, Alex is a character in the game, so there’s no way he could have known about the demonic proliferation that was going to take place on the Canbina Coast.
Sierra, the source of the original event, is already out of the story, and if he really wanted a summer vacation, he would have asked me to go with him.
Even if I had the foreshadowing to recognize it, I can’t help but wonder.
I’m sure Alex, the First Prince, is much busier than I am, but he’s taking matters into his own hands by abandoning his other important duties….
Normally, I wouldn’t be surprised if he sent a magical legion or mercenary army to do the job.
But the fact that Alex traveled all the way out here on his own means that he’s that confident.
Like, for example, that no one but him could fix this situation….
“…What’s wrong, Ariana?”
“Oh, nothing. Nothing.”
It’s not that I have any suspicions that Alex is someone other than who I know him to be, or anything of the sort.
I’ve been around him for nearly a decade now, and I know enough to know that the Alex I know today isn’t an outside replacement like me or Miss Sierra.
So other than that, I just want to address a little curiosity about my fiancé, who knows information about the game that I probably don’t know.
