chapter 40
40 – 40. The Golden Sun is Jealous of the Disguised Woman.
Now, we’re keeping silent and cautious after acknowledging each other’s presence.
“Curious why I am here?”
The one who broke the silence was Francis, who had been patiently waiting for us.
He pointed to a pocket where a hunter’s certificate was, after giving a light laugh.
As I tilted my head, unable to fully comprehend his meaning.
He pointed his fingers towards Raul, then to the fluid core, in turn.
“It’s a simple deduction. I’ve been collecting information about you, from your behavior patterns to your past.”
Without withdrawing his hand, he turned towards me again.
Gently touching my cheek and slowly drawing a hand down, he added.
“I obtained a hunter’s license, and after that, I went to find Sylvester and had frequent contact with Raoul, whom she was targeting. I simply chose the most likely possibility.”
I don’t know about the rest, but this guy, who is actually a woman inside, is brushing my cheek affectionately, and for some reason, it angers me.
It felt good when Lucia did it, but now it’s really irritating my feverish mind.
Lucia must have thought the same way because she forcefully pushed Francis’ hand off my cheek and pulled me into her embrace.
“Don’t mess with my husband.”
..But I’m not her husband yet.
Although I felt slightly better, I didn’t show it, which made Francis raise his eyebrows and point at his own face as if he couldn’t believe it.
“I’m a man, you know?”
Usually, a normal person would have said, ‘Oh, right. Was I a bit harsh?’ and moved on, but Lucia’s eyes were still burning.
Not only did Lucia know that Francis was actually a cross-dressing woman, but she also knew that even if Francis were a real man, Lucia would still be jealous.
“Even though we spend most of our time together in the academy,”…
Lucia even said that just being in the same dorm as her was not enough.
I keep rejecting her, but I have a feeling that one day I’ll be forcefully dragged to that side dorm every day.
“..But it’s still not right, he’s mine.”
As if it didn’t matter, Lucia held me tightly.
At the same time, I could hear Raoul and Francis sighing in disbelief from the side.
While my lips formed a faint smile, I knew I would be in trouble if I got caught.
“If the president of the student council came here personally, there must be something you want, right?”
“Hmm.. Why would you think that? You could’ve just thought that I came to catch a thief.”
“If that’s what you thought, you wouldn’t have come here personally. You came because you have something to say, didn’t you?”
This is Francis’ stubbornness.
When trying to persuade or convince someone to be on her side, she always insists on doing it herself.
Even though she could easily send a representative or another person, she doesn’t.
“Well, I may have a strong sense of noblesse oblige, thanks for noticing..”
“Don’t talk nonsense, what do you want?”
Certainly, her stubbornness is not made up of the same sense of noble duty as noblesse oblige.
Rather, it would have been more about not being able to eNT*Rust her affairs to inferior people, the belief in superiority.
Since we didn’t have time to talk more, I got straight to the point and asked. Francis stiffened her expression slightly and spoke.
“Just to clarify any misunderstandings, you can take the floating core! After all, you’re going to replace it with something replaceable, right?”
“That’s true.”
Although the power of the Magical Engineering Flux Core is necessary for Raoul’s survival, it is by no means the main source of power for the Academy.
Once the core disappears, it becomes difficult even to supply basic power to the Academy.
In order to ensure the survival of the Academy, we chose Raoul to carry the essence of the nine-tailed fox he had been holding for a thousand years as a substitute for the Magical Engineering Flux Core.
Since Raoul is trying to change the source of life from the essence of the nine-tailed fox to the Magical Engineering Flux Core, naturally the original essence of the nine-tailed fox becomes useless.
“We also don’t want this Academy to disappear.”
However, although the life force has disappeared, the core of the nine-tailed fox, which still connects and emits magical power, has value.
There is sufficient value as a substitute for the Magical Engineering Flux Core.
As a creature with excellent mana detection and sensitivity, and also as the essence of a thousand-year-old creature, it is only natural.
“Alright, then you understand that I don’t intend to stop you, right? Whether it is the essence of the nine-tailed fox or the flux core, it’s the same anyway, since it will occupy the position of power source for the Academy.”
I didn’t even say that I would insert the essence of the nine-tailed fox, but judging from the conversation, it seems that he thinks I will.
He really is someone who has obtained the qualification of a Grade 1 monster hunter.
Perhaps the exam also included knowledge about monsters and hunting methods.
“What I want from you is two things.”
Saying that, the student council president extended his finger, straightening it.
Two things? Is he kidding? What does he want us to do?
When my eyes shone with such emotions, Francis anxiously raised his hand to explain further.
“No, I won’t give you difficult tasks! I’ll give you two easy tasks!”
But still, when I saw no signs of doubt in my eyes, Francis extended his index finger as if to explain first.
I could see that Raoul was twisting his body because he wanted to take the Magical Engineering Flux Core.
Shouldn’t I just take the flux core first and then start the conversation?
“First, handle everything you have caused cleanly.”
The merciless student council president didn’t care about such trivial matters.
“You have already thought of a solution for the flux core, so take care of Sylvester on your own terms, whether you kill him or not.”
This was the action they were going to take immediately after stealing the flux core.
Now you’re blocking our way and saying something, huh..!
In that instant, I was dumbfounded by the fact that he saw us as trash who couldn’t even clean up properly.
“Who do you think you are to give us orders? Jack, should we just kill her and be done with it?”
The words were not for the Duke Yeong-ae to say to the Marquis Yeong-ae, but I also thought that way to some extent.
With my head, I nodded vigorously and patted her back with my hand.
“The words are a bit harsh, Klein Yeong-ae.”
“Just mumble it… mumble!”
But since it wasn’t something I could just let go of, I forcibly silenced Lucia, who was trying to swear at me.
If Francis had recorded this situation, it would have been an instant nightmare in life. Please, coNT*Rol your temper.
“Klein Yeong-ae seems a bit young, perhaps she needs to learn more about social life.”
That’s how Lucia, realizing that she couldn’t move in my grip, was gently teased by Francis.
Even though there was only a two-year age difference, it was quite comical to talk about age. But perhaps this provocation was effective on Lucia, as she struggled to utter a curse while wriggling in my arms.
“Uh, uh…”
Eventually, Lucia, realizing that her situation wouldn’t improve by doing this, ended up sulking.
Even like this, if I just gently stroked her head, she would soon bounce back to her lively self.
I quietly placed my hand on Lucia’s head and gave Francis a meaningful glance, indicating that he should continue talking.
“Well, now that the iNT*Ruder has quieted down, shall we continue our conversation?”
Upon hearing those words, Lucia flinched for a moment, but when she saw my expression, she fell silent once again.
Observing her like that, Francis, with a somewhat disappointed expression, moved his tongue as if pondering, then took out a small rectangular object and placed it against the wall.
Its identity was similar to the surveillance device Lucia and I had seen in the room café.
“..What’s the purpose of showing us this?”
The video on the device showed the image of a ruin.
And because I knew what that ruin was, I couldn’t coNT*Rol my expression for a moment.
However, Francis, sensing that my reaction was odd, raised an eyebrow slightly, but that was all.
It wasn’t that I was surprised because I knew where that place was.
Ruins can be found anywhere, and at first glance, it seemed like just an ordinary ruin in the wilderness.
‘However, that place is the ceNT*Ral area of Episode Eight, ‘The Relic of the Suicidal Civilization,’ and the stage where Francis plays the leading role…’
The reason I was genuinely surprised was that the place she showed was somewhere that we could only reach a little later from now, with a level of difficulty that was impossible for us at the moment.
Without saying that I knew where that place was, I waited for her response, and Francis started asking us for our thoughts, looking at each of us one by one.
“…Seems not too bad?”
“I dislike it because it seems dusty.”
Raoul and Lucia replied one after the other, and I also replied that it didn’t seem like a very good place to just take a break.
Francis, upon hearing these words, lit up with excitement in his eyes, grabbed my hand firmly, and replayed the footage from the expedition once more, then asked, “Shall we explore that place together later?”
He boldly asked the worst question I had been dreading.
Suddenly, I saw Lucia holding my hand next to me and brandishing a club. I sincerely hoped to just strike Francis on the head with that club.
