chapter 43
43 – 43. To Fall in Love is to Die.
In response to my signal, Lucia immediately lit up and rushed towards Sylvester.
“I also regret it, Jack Orlante.”
As Sylvester spoke in a domineering tone, the aura that had been occupying a corner of his body became even more distinct.
If before it was something strange, now it felt like an uncomfortable sensation of something foreign bouncing inside the body.
Lucia also seemed to have felt it, as her steady steps towards Sylvester momentarily faltered.
-Bang!
Taking advantage of that opening, Sylvester’s charm hit Lucia’s body and detonated.
That charm is similar to a detonation mechanism, but its structure is much simpler and its power is weaker. It is a charm that activates the ma attribute, turning the opponent inside the space created by Sylvester into ma attribute.
“Ugh!”
After briefly emitting a groaning sound, Lucia rushed into Sylvester’s embrace and struck him with her club.
However, the momentary opening created by the charm was enough to move the body, and Sylvester threw his body to the right and prepared for the next attack.
-Thud!
Along with a short signal that flicked his hand, the candy that was in the place where Sylvester had settled exploded.
Although it is fundamentally a candy and is about the size of a small bead, as I mentioned earlier, its power far surpasses that of the charm.
“What is this..!”
Sylvester and Lucia, who witnessed the power, were filled with astonishment.
Continuously emphasizing, it is almost impossible to generate such firepower from such a small mass.
“..I’m truly amazed, is that your ability?”
Sylvester emerged from the smoke thickened by the explosion and spat out a mixture of blood and spit.
Even in that process, there was elegance, making it feel like a scene from a movie.
“Attack again, Lucia,” I commanded Lucia once more without having time to leisurely consider such a feeling.
Lucia immediately dashed towards Sylvester after nodding her head in response to my command.
Sylvester, placing his hand inside his pocket as if preparing to engage in close combat with Lucia.
“Duck down!”
As I observed Sylvester’s movement, I spoke to Lucia, and at the same time, a whip aimed for Lucia’s upper body flew towards her.
-Whoosh!
Thanks to Lucia evading the attack upon hearing my words, the sound of a swift wind breaking was the only result. However, Sylvester, using ceNT*Rifugal force, swiftly swung the whip before attempting to strike once again.
“Hah!”
But Lucia struck Sylvester’s face with her fist instead of the cane she usually used to unleash her power, which required some distance to deliver its force.
Sylvester, taking the hit and not letting it pass, grabbed Lucia’s neck from behind and delivered a knee strike to her abdomen.
Meanwhile, he used a talisman to widen the gap that had temporarily opened between them as he retreated.
“A foe capable in both close combat and long-range battles…”
A textbook attack that steadily delivers precise hits to the opponent without inflicting excessive damage.
I watched her movements and approached Sylvester’s square corner, placing my hand on the furniture.
“You’re just ordering the fight and running away, leaving it to your woman?”
Whether it was because I annoyed her by giving only tactical instructions from behind or not, Sylvester swung the whip towards me.
“Watch out!”
Lucia swiftly rushed forward, diverting the trajectory of the whip and preventing it from targeting me.
“Look at yourself, even acting all clingy with guys like a girlfriend.”
When someone she recognized as almost her boyfriend touches furniture like that, it’s this kind of reaction.
As I promised to myself that I would definitely hug Lucia later, I increased my pace.
“The more I think about it, the more angry I become. Who do you think you are to insult my man?”
“Such a severe problem. You’re sticking your nose into men’s business.”
Sylvester, seeing Lucia like that, sighed deeply as if finding her pathetic, and waved his hands around in the air.
If you look closely, it was a gesture resembling a coNT*Ract.
“Lucia, step back for a moment!”
After slightly restraining Sylvester’s actions, all the candies around me exploded.
Soon, within the billowing smoke, Sylvester’s right arm was enveloped in purple energy.
Then, she took out a charm from her pocket, containing the power of twenty charms, and threw it into the sky.
“Is it not enough to just go? Because he insulted you.”
Lucia swung her bat restlessly as if her body was itching, but I grabbed her shoulder, now turned towards me, and shook my head.
What Silvesta is doing now is her own ‘Phase 2’.
It means that she is about to enter a proper battle, using all her power.
Needless to say, the amulets she threw should have fallen to the ground by now due to gravity.
But the amulets, as if rejecting such physical principles, floated in the air and orbited around her like satellites, instead of falling.
“And, it’s a rule to get hit when attacking during transformation..”
If I were to attack while Silvesta is preparing for it, her body would explode from the conceNT*Rated attack of the amulets.
Ignoring Silvesta who was standing still, I walked around the room, touching every piece of furniture without missing anything, and rolled candies into hidden places.
“Sigh..”
Soon after, Silvesta sighed deeply while spinning the amulets around her.
Her cold, emotionless eyes still shone brightly, but emitted a completely different sense of pressure than before.
And the timing I had been waiting for was exactly this Phase 2 timing.
“Lucia, it might be difficult to avoid it completely, but try not to touch the amulets and attack as much as possible.”
“hehehe, it’s a shame that I can’t attack, but I’m really good at that! Don’t worry!”
Of course, it’s still a bit early to step forward just because it is Phase 2.
The strategy I have is for Lucia to draw out Silvesta’s full power for a more effective operation.
For that, Lucia needs to skillfully dodge Silvesta’s attacks and disrupt her.
“Whew..”
Since Phase 2 arrived much faster than expected, I put my hands on every small place while walking around.
Only then did Lucia realize that something was wrong and continued to avoid Silvesta, who was trying to attack me.
Although my movements were slightly too suspicious, I knew that, so I smiled and said to her.
“You’re aiming for that so much, it’s within the predicted range.”
I detonated the smoke bomb hidden in my clothes, covering the surroundings in smoke.
It was quite expensive to buy and use, but it was originally purchased for this purpose.
After giving up on that thought, I secretly moved around, listening to the sound of Lucia and Silvesta exchanging blows.
Though it was quite clumsy and lacking in cunning and agile movements like Lucia, I was able to move at the optimal speed that I could achieve.
“Ah!”
I heard the sound of Lucia being pushed back in a fight of strength.
At the same time, the mist of the smoke bomb slowly started to dissipate.
Silvesta’s charms that she was constantly spinning around herself had now surpassed fifty.
“Break your neck, Jack Orante.”
It was Silvesta, walking towards me with an aura of vitality.
“Just as planned.”
Seeing her like that, the corners of my mouth curved upwards without intending to come back down.
Taking a closer look at the room we were in, I noticed that the magic I had touched was imbued in every piece of furniture inside.
The situation was just as I had imagined when planning the operation.
“Jack was never one to cooperate in a fight.”
Since the magic Jack used was explosive in nature, it was a technique that could inflict damage not only to the enemy, but also to friendly forces who were blind to the attack.
That’s why it was difficult to make a significant coNT*Ribution in the third episode where cooperation was crucial.
“I originally intended to lure you into a room, but there was no need since you came in on your own.”
So, I changed my approach.
If it was difficult to cooperate in battle due to the structure of Jack’s attacks which easily swept someone away, then wouldn’t it be better to create a situation where no one would be swept away in the first place?
“You may feel a little pain, Silvesta, but please endure it.”
After saying that, I picked up the bag that Lucia had placed in the corner right before the fight and threw it into the middle of the room.
Then, lemon candies poured out from the slightly open zipper of the bag.
It would be a shame if I couldn’t eat the candies, but I could ask Lucia for some later.
“More candies?”
Silvesta muttered stupidly, but each and every one of those candies was no different from a bomb.
A masterpiece meticulously infused with magic one by one when there was free time.
Now, when those candies and the furniture inside the room all exploded at once, the charms would cause a chain reaction, turning this entire room into ashes.
“Lucia, let’s get out of here.”
I said this as I saw Lucia using a short-range teleport ticket.
After nodding politely towards Silvesta, I attached the ticket to my body and lightly flicked my finger.
-BOOM!
Even if she had a short-range teleport ticket, she wouldn’t have been able to react to the clean explosion.
Before I knew it, I was standing outside the academy building, watching the overwhelming amount of candies, all the furniture inside the room, and even my own charms get entangled. Did I die?
“I hope he’s not dead.”
I began to walk towards the epicenter of the explosion, where smoke was rising.
“Jack, did we win?”
It was an extra bonus to see Lucía smiling beside me and patting Silvestre’s head.
When we reached the epicenter, to my surprise, Silvestre was gasping for breath.
“Looks like you survived.”
But one of his arms was missing and blood was flowing from all over his body, so he was not in good shape.
The only hopeful thing was that unlike Fate, who was beyond treatment, there was a chance for Silvestre to survive.
I handed Rosario, who had belonged to the prince, to her, with a helpless expression on my face, and said,
“The Saint, Eden Holloway, will be coming here soon. Get temporary treatment and go to the Holy Kingdom.”
“Excuse me?”
Silvestre looked at me, surprised that I wasn’t killing her, but I continued speaking indifferently.
“If you take this with you to the Holy Kingdom, you will receive a grand welcome.”
I said confidently to her, who was bewildered.
“I don’t want to kill you. You’re not a bad person. Let’s meet again later.”
I watched as Silvestre, who seemed satisfied with herself as well, accepted Rosario.
-Clap!
Lucía rubbed honey balm on Silvestre’s forehead and said,
“Don’t mistake Jack as mine, and don’t fall for him either. If you fall for him, you’ll die at my hands.”
…I should worry about my concerns too, really.
