I’m a Hero, but I Gave Up Saving the World

chapter 3

3 – y’all ain’t worth saving

I have always loved exploring and studying. Above all else, the pursuit of knowledge was an important need for me.

When my friends around me started getting jobs and earning money, I went to graduate school without hesitation. I have never found more pleasure than learning one by one the wonders of this world.

I received my master’s degree smoothly and entered the doctoral program, but my advisor was a problem.

My life was also twisted when I met a bad professor who submitted my thesis to the academic society as if it were his own work and ran me on errands to pick up my child from kindergarten. Even on weekends, I went to work, and when I went to work, overtime was the default. Even so, they maliciously didn’t let me graduate, so I couldn’t achieve my dream of becoming a professor, and I just grew old.

I sincerely resented the world for why the right to graduate was given to individual professors.

When I was summoned to Aurelia and selected as a warrior by Man Kwak Dong-soo, my interest naturally turned to the academy because I needed a job to live on.

I heard that Aurelia is famous among many countries for its high academic zeal.

Sorcerers and scholars from all over the world come here to study.

The existence of the academy, where nobles, royalty, and commoners with exceptional talents were admitted, was enough to attract my attention, full of knowledge.

“You’re from a place called Earth? Oh, welcome. Please teach me many mysteries of another world that we do not know about!”

“I came to learn rather than teach. I don’t know anything about this place yet… ”

“The same thing we don’t know about Earth. How about this? Teaching and learning at the same time?”

Fortunately, the principal of the academy responded favorably to my interest and gave me the privilege of being a student and professor.

Very occasionally, there are people who play as players and managers in the world of professional sports, so it’s easy to understand with a similar concept.

It was a happier day than I thought.

I learn something new every day and pass on the knowledge I know.

The students at the academy, like me, have a high passion for learning, so they showed interest in trivial information about the earth and enjoyed it.

I was treated as a kind of specialist there, because even famous wizards and great scholars were mostly strangers to Earth.

Even the professors respected me, and my geology lectures, scheduled outside of regular hours, soon became popular.

“Thanks to you, new vitality is circulating in the academy. Thank you.”

“What. I’m glad I can help.”

“There is no one who can catch up with you when it comes to geology. Well, of course it is.”

Compared to Lee Myeong, who is called a great sage, the principal said that she looked only like a girl just over 10 years old.

“So, I want to appoint you as an official professor at the academy.”

“Yes? My, am I a professor? You mean the full professor?”

“Isn’t it natural? However, a formal thesis publication procedure is required for appointment as a professor, so please take that into account.”

“I will write a thesis. As usual, Dong-soo formed a warrior party, so I was interested in it too. I will write a thesis on the warrior party.”

“I’m looking forward to it.”

Professor! Full Professor!

It was the moment when my old dream finally came true.

Doing research I love all my life, sharing knowledge and making money? In my opinion, there is no better job on earth than a professor, no in another world.

“I heard the news, Mr. Faust, should I call you Professor Faust now?”

“If you become a professor, I will give you a treat!”

“Are you continuing the earth science lecture? Professor’s class is the most fun in that academy! Yeah? Aren’t you a professor yet? Hey, you’re going to be a professor soon anyway!”

“Professor Faust! I hope to go along well!”

—It was good at the time. The people around him were kind, and since being a professor at the academy is an occupation that objectively accompanies a considerable social status, more and more people flatter him.

It was a time when I became swollen with dreams as if I had already become a professor when I had disciples who followed me.

However, the incident in question happened.

The principal called me and expressed disapproval, saying that it was difficult to be appointed as a professor.

“Unfortunately, there is a scandal that you plagiarized the thesis of the hero Lucy von Letlea, so you will not be officially appointed.”

“I beg your pardon? Whose paper am I plagiarizing? Kwak Dong-soo? He was a kid who got an 8th grade in the college entrance exam and went to an understaffed intellectual college, but then dropped out and sold phones. I’m plagiarizing her thesis?”

“I’m sorry, but the vocabulary you use is not familiar to us. But what we do know is that the hero submitted the same thesis to the conference the day before your thesis presentation date.”

“… Then that son of a bitch stole mine.”

“Do you have any proof? It is true that the hero published his thesis earlier in terms of timing.”

“Interrogate that child. There must be some dirty plot.”

“I’m sorry, but there is no agency in Aurelia to interrogate the hero. Can the academy be called when the king also pays attention to the warrior? Please understand.”

“then… The full professor position is… ”

“Look for another job. I’m sorry.”

—I don’t think the principal knew that another job would be horse dung cleaner.

With that incident as a boundary, Kwak Dong-soo’s bullying started in earnest, so I couldn’t find a normal job.

It seems that he was wary of the reputation I was building at the academy.

Kwak Dong-soo’s reputation was getting worse by taking advantage of his status as a warrior to cause a riot in a bar or extorting large sums of money by deceiving antiques that were nothing but trash as treasures of the earth. On the other hand, I was famous among the aristocrats of the academy because I was smart and had a good personality, and Kwak Dong-soo didn’t like that.

Even so, to accuse me of being a thesis plagiarist, I crossed the line.

“Hey Kwak Dong-soo. why are you doing this to me Aren’t we friends?”

“Oh, a plagiarist expelled from the academy has arrived.”

Even when I couldn’t stand it and went to meet him, he was playing lewdly at the bar holding a woman in his hands. When Kwak Dong-soo made fun of me, the women at the bar, who were flattered, laughed.

I’d be lying if I said my pride wasn’t hurt.

Because the difference in status between a hero and an unemployed ordinary person is too great.

However, it is only an external status, and I have never thought that I was inferior to Kwak Dong-soo in terms of ability.

“If I plagiarize, will I plagiarize your ignorant thesis? Do you even know how to write a thesis in the first place?”

“know. Didn’t you just submit your thesis to the conference? Stop shaking and get out of here.”

“You know very well who really wrote the thesis. If you have a conscience, shouldn’t you at least apologize to your friend?”

“friend?”

Kwak Dong-soo’s expression at that time… It was a truly murderous laugh.

“Are you still unable to grasp reality? I am a warrior You are the dregs of not being a hero.”

He suddenly poured the beer into his glass and walked away haughtily holding the glass.

With a smirking smile on my face, I lifted the cup over my head and turned it upside down. The beer ran down his scalp and trickled down. I didn’t lose and shot him with fierce eyes.

“I go you are Why don’t you know that?”

“Am I fooling around? what did you mess with? I just studied quietly at the academy.”

“That’s a joke.”

“??”

“Why are you so eager to study magic? Is it to beat me, the warrior? Do you think you can become a hero just by learning magic?”

“What kind of dog shit is this? Do you think I am studying for your position?”

“of course. I will be a thorn in the eye to you.”

“If you stop being overly self-conscious, it becomes a disease. Let’s ask one thing. How did you steal my thesis? Who is the executioner?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but the important thing is that if you study magic now, you’ll be charged with treason, and you should use honorifics for me, a hero!!”

Suddenly, Kwak Dong-soo grabbed a knife and charged at me. Did you get drunk, you crazy bastard?

I easily subdued him by pushing him away with the long wind magic I learned at the academy. Seeing Kwak Dong-soo’s frightened expression made me feel sorry for the people of Aurelia who really put their hopes on him.

“Mr., a fuck! Do you dare to attack the hero? I-that bastard is a traitor! All the guys who are close to that dog will be a rebel! ”

After that, I was bullied wherever I went.

I was completely fed up with people running away, reluctant to even have a light conversation with me for fear of being photographed by the hero.

Even the people I became close with at the academy quickly turned their backs on me.

“Isn’t plagiarism the worst thing for a scholar?”

“In the first place, his lectures were not in depth… ”

“I guess I was being friendly to someone who wasn’t even a hero.”

“It didn’t make sense from the beginning that someone with no educational background would become a professor.”

“Please don’t even set foot in the academy anymore.”

It is said that eternity and decline and exclamation and exclamation are the truths of eternity, but in a world where people change like flipping a palm overnight, arrogance definitely fell.

——Now that Kwak Dong-soo dies and I become a warrior again, like a sailboat changing its course according to the wind, I already feel disgusted when I think of people who will pretend to be viciously close to me this time.

“Fa, Faust~~? Mr. Faust? No Faust! Could you please take this holy sword and accompany me to the palace? I, my family’s life and death are at stake, so please have mercy just once~~”

A woman who is the epitome of that very cowardly man is persistently pleading outside the door.

Up until now, he acted brazenly, saying he hadn’t done anything wrong, and he tried to win my favor by thoroughly lowering himself from where he heard what he had heard, but he said fuck it.

“Faust Neim? Oh, are you inside? How can I be forgiven? I’ll do anything, so please let me know! Yeah? Yeah? This is how I really die.”

Using Serena’s appeal as background music, I slowly chewed and re-read the letters delivered to my house by Kwak Dong-soo before he left for an expedition.

The more you read, the more firmly become more firm that these chews are not worth saving.
