Chapter 177: Chapter 177 Difficulties

Many years ago, the small Ogoma Shrine gradually gained popularity as the Capital prospered. The original village at the foot of the mountain developed into a small town, and was named Ogoma Town after the name of the shrine. In terms of tourism economy, this place is much better than the Salted Fish Village where Logan was staying before.

The night in the town is different from the continuous hustle and bustle of the Capital, with most shops already closed. Logan diminished his presence as he passed by a still-lit souvenir shop selling prayer items. As he went further and looked up towards the mountain, he looked up the mountain, where tree shadows and the night blended together, with only a few faint yellow lights.

Logan stepped onto the stairs, feeling the subtle atmosphere of the mountain at night. The stone path was swallowed by shadows layer by layer, and it was silent all around, with only occasional rustling of leaves.

Of course, the atmosphere was not an issue for Logan, who was highly skilled and bold. A first-time visitor might find it eerie, but he walked unhurriedly towards the platform he remembered. Every so often, there were small lanterns for illumination. Looking back at the peaceful town below was a sight in itself.

He soon arrived at the location. Due to years of neglect, the platform had no light source, making it pitch black with not a ghostly shadow in sight. Logan stopped to sense his surroundings, the shrine was in a nearby corner.

During the day, he not only feels the abnormality in the shrine, but also noticed the peculiar Space-Time fluctuations. Back then, when he was with Sumika, there were no abnormality, but when they got closer out of curiosity, the faint fluctuations became detectable. The same is true now. Standing at the edge of the mountain stairs, the shrine's faint outline stood there plainly.

The shrine's management personnel's quarters were further up, so Logan stepped closer. As he neared the shrine, he again detected those subtle fluctuations.

"Is it because the fluctuations are too weak?" Logan pondered as he rubbed his chin. He estimated the critical distance and circled around the shrine.

"Strange."

Ogoma Shrine is not a remote place that no one cares about. Although unofficial, it is still right next to the Capital. Even the country's Ceremonial Envoy would occasionally take care of it. With its popularity, there were many visitors, including Ninjas. So Logan found it hard to believe he was the first to notice the fluctuations on this small shrine.

'Why had no one discovered it before?'

When Hoshino Sumika told him about it during the day, her tone was very casual. Logan's curiosity grew along with his suspicion. Such occurrences were rare, and anything related to Space-Time, even within the mystical realm of Ninjutsu, was very unusual.

Logan went directly to the shrine, taking out a firestarter. With a flick, the firelight illuminated the scene.

The statue inside was blurred and unrecognizable, though its wings were still elegantly displayed. Any possible inscriptions on the pedestal or the shrine's surface had long faded, giving it a distinct sense of history.

In the silent background, the firelight cast a scene of a person facing a dilapidated statue, creating a somewhat eerie image...

"Looking at it like this, it can't be a birdman, right?" The Space-Time fluctuations were faint but certain. Logan observed the worn-out statue for a long time, but he's unable to discern anything significant.

"There are no clues at all." The shrine was small, and Logan checked every corner under the firelight without any findings. Without the means to trigger or interact with the Space-Time fluctuations, he could only stare helplessly.

Taking out the Ring of Sky, he compared the similar but distinct auras. Logan placed the ring on the suspected birdman's statue with a serious face, hoping for a reaction. Unsurprisingly, nothing happened.

"Ah, how disappointing." In the end, Logan couldn't help but tap and knock around the shrine. However, aside from knocking off a few fragments, it was useless, so he had to give up reluctantly.

After standing up and stretching his legs after squatting for a long time, Logan stared at the shrine with frustration for a long time before sighing.

"Looks like I'll have to come back next time." Logan looked around, hoping that there would be no changes here in the future. He looked in the direction of the Capital from the steep slope next to the shrine, "I should focus on completing the task given by the organization first."

Right now, he could only wait until he understood Space-Time Ninjutsu better to uncover the secret.

Following his original path, Logan disappeared in a few swift leaps. What he didn't know was that the mysterious veil here would soon be revealed to him.

After returning to the Capital, Logan temporarily set aside the matter of the shrine. Moving through the city more discreetly, he began finding the way to steal the information of the financial expenditures. It can't be helped. This mission had been approved and emphasized by Pain, so if he doesn't do this job well, he may be blacklisted by Akatsuki.

Over the course of a week, he familiarized himself with the security around the residence of the Land of Fire's Minister of Finance. The security was far stricter than at Sumika's envoy residence, after all, the daily security of important ministers of a powerful country is not joking matters. So Logan spent a lot of time to ensure that there were no flaws in his intelligence, and chose a night to make his move.

While passing the second line of guards, an unexpected incident occurred. He stumbled upon a Samurai and a maid engaging in inappropriate activities at an inappropriate time and place, precisely in the woods he had planned to pass through. Such changes could trigger a chain reaction of events. After secretly cursing that adulterous couple, Logan could only retreat first.

After a two-day delay, ensuring everything was as planned, Logan made his second attempt. This time, there were no uncivilized interruptions. The process was generally tense but without major incidents. Logan successfully retrieved the expenditure records from the safe.

Given the time constraints, he had thought of several ways to cover up the theft. Copying the documents on-site would take ages, and taking them out to duplicate and then returning them was too risky, so in the end, he sealed the documents in a scroll and placed a prepared set of forgeries in the safe. The forgeries had a similar cover, but the inside was all blank pages.

"Sigh… I successfully completed the task assigned to me!"

On the day before the half-month deadline, Logan stretched his body and handed the obtained intelligence to a White Zetsu's clone.

"You're too slow." The two met somewhere far away from the Capital. The White Zetsu's clone took the documents, glanced at them briefly, and said to Logan disdainfully.

Logan waved his hand, "There were some unexpected issues."

With a snort, the clone, less talkative than the original White Zetsu, rummaged through its belongings and tossed out a scroll.

"This is part of the information we promised you." White Zetsu's clone said, "Also, leader asked me to tell you that the Biju Capture Plan is in full swing. It's time for you to return to your position. Wrap up your business in Konoha as soon as possible. If possible, it would be best to directly capture the Kyubi's Jinchuuriki."

Logan was initially in a good mood when he saw White Zetsu taking out the 'information', but after hearing what he said next, his mood turned somber.

He knew this moment would come and responded coolly, "I know."

Without further words, the White Zetsu's clone sank into the ground, vanishing from sight.
