I'm Really Not a Pokémon

Chapter 15: The Unknown Reality

The stars and moon are hidden behind dark clouds.

The manor lay in the darkness of the night like a wild beast taking a nap.

It was midnight, and only the sound of even breathing was heard across the estate. Growlithe, the daytime watchman, sleeps deeply in his kennel. Houndoom, who was assigned to patrol at night, was vigilant and ferocious as he inspected the manor, his mouth opening and closing unconsciously, as if eager to tear something.

The mansion was filled with the silence of the night. Hanging on the wall of the corridor of the ancestor portrait as always staring eyes, face hanging solemn but gentle smile. It was only the wind that blew from time to time that added a furtive meaning to that smile.

In the small room, the flames that danced in the fireplace made the man's shadow appear erratic as it waxed and waned. In the mirror by the window, the man's face had nothing but gloom and gravity. At his feet, a rabbit-like Pokémon, Umbreon, whose black fur was dotted with golden circles, lay obediently on its back as if napping, but the red eyes that opened from time to time let it be known that it had no intention of sleeping.

"Yo, Lord Mayor, still up this late? Was it hard waiting for my news?"

A very bitchy voice came through the window, and the mayor only felt a flash of light before a grinning man with a big sack on his back appeared outside the window with a Malamar.

Umbreon snapped to its feet, backing up taut and crouching low on its spine, baring its teeth and staring at the man outside the window with blood-red orbs of death.

Malamar, beside the man, looked at Umbreon as if it were an enemy, and a rather provocative smile appeared on its face.

But Umbreon didn't seem to see it, still staring at the man, keeping its stance ready to attack. The mayor beside Umbreon, on the other hand, kept his expression unchanged and didn't say a word, only focusing his sight on Malamar's body.

The man sneered at the sight.

"The Lord Mayor is really a treasure, always ready to finish me off? Why bother with all this trouble? How about you give me a few dollars and I'll rip my own head off and sell it to you?"

At those words the mayor finally did something to react, he raised his eyes and swept his sight to the man's face, then his eyes froze where they were, gazing at the man nonchalantly, as if he was looking at a person, or as if he was looking at a dog.

The man was made uncomfortable by his stare, a gaze that clearly had no power to speak of at all, yet it made him feel as if he was on the edge of his seat. He wanted to make a joke, but when the words came out, he couldn't open his mouth.

The two had silence for a short while.

"I've completed the mission, and that child will never send any more news or appear in front of your eyes. Check out!"

The man finally opened his mouth, speaking hard words in a tone of voice that was almost ready to go first.

"Good, the money will be wired to your account first thing in the morning, I gave you an extra two hundred thousand dollars, and don't come back to the Kanto area for two years."

The mayor's tone was gloomy and cold, still staring at the man as he spoke.

The man's face looked slightly better when he heard the other party speak, he pursed his lips and the mayor stared at him for a moment, then the corner of his mouth pulled out another treacherous smile, "Don't worry, Lord Mayor, our Pokémon Hunter's credibility is still guaranteed, by the way," he patted the bulging sack on his back, the smile on his face became more and more unrestrained, "Do you want to see the results of my work? This little guy is so hard to find."

The sack on his back looked like it sensed pain and struggled violently for a few moments. Seeing this, Malamar, who was beside Pokémon Hunter, used Hypnosis, and the sack didn't move again.

Seeing the mayor nodded, he skimmed his lips, he really thought the mayor was generous enough to not need to inspect the goods.

So he put the sack down and opened it, revealing the head of a teenager. The teenager was passing out in the sack.

The mayor nodded and abruptly his face turned steeply cold.

"You'll make an accidental death that won't reveal itself right..."

Pokémon Hunter only felt a chill go up from the soles of his feet to the sky, and his body first shivered as if he had been electrocuted, followed by goosebumps.

"Sure, sure. I'm very reputable."

Pokémon Hunter was too busy to reply in a panic.

He was really a bit flustered now, he just wanted to counterattack a bit, not to fall on his own prestige, but as a result, he was now able to make a mistake, and seemed to have annoyed this Viridian City's mayor.

"Alright! If you succeed, don't appear in front of me, if you fail, you'll never appear in front of me again."

The mayor coldly threatened.

He was now very upset with this Pokémon Hunter, really thought that after two years of licking blood from the mouth of a knife he could be reckless in front of his own face? When he was licking blood at the edge of a knife, this bullshit Pokémon Hunter was only afraid that he was still playing with urine and mud.

"Yes yes yes, don't worry."

After saying that, Pokémon Hunter and Malamar disappeared from the mayor's eyes with an instantaneous movement.

Umbreon by the mayor's side steeply relaxed and looked at the location where the other party had just left with a disdainful face, his soulful eyes looking like they were mocking the other party's woeful departure.

The mayor reached out his hand to stroke Umbreon's head, his mouth whispering, "A rat that can't see the light is just a rat."

The sound of a door being opened suddenly came from behind him.

"Dad, I had a nightmare again!"

A teenager rushed in through the door with tearstains and fear on his face before jumping into the arms of the mayor who had just turned around.

"I dreamed that Light's Beedrill put a bee sting on my neck. He wanted me to give up Charmander or he would kill me."

The ten-year-old wailed in his father's arms.

The expression on the mayor's face went from annoyed, to hateful, to helpless, and finally rested on doting.

"It's okay, little Bailey, Light won't come back to bully you in the future."

Upon hearing this, Bailey, who had buried her head in tears, raised her head and puffed out, "Dad! I'm going to tear down that orphanage!"

"Good~ Dad will arrange it tomorrow."

"Dad, I still want that Charmander of mine! You have to help me get it back from from the forest!"

"Okay~ Dad, someone has already been sent to look for it, there will be news soon."

"Dad! I want to..."

"Good~..."

"Young man, you can't blame society for your back. Don't bullies look for a good bully? You think you have some talent and then you smugly go to the mayor's kid to find superiority? The mayor is ruthless, his son is a loser, and you're no good either. I can't deal with the mayor and his son, so killing you will be a good thing for the future. You don't even have the qualifications to be severely beaten by the society, what kind of luck do you think you have."

"ε=(ο`*))) Alas, not much more to say, in your next life, be a good person and start over, don't make mistakes again, you don't even have a chance to correct them, how wrong it is."

Pokémon Hunter carried out the Light in the sack, looking at the tender face was a burst of emotion, glanced at the large eclipse flower colony in front of him, and covered the excitement in the bottom of his eyes with a look of regret. Then it was ready to fight the urge to throw it.

"Be a good person in your next life."

"Charmander, Ember!"
