Chapter 26: 26. Process Of Friendship
"Hey, what's your name, by the way?" Jane asked. She seemed to be in a bad mood, so it looked like she just wanted to pass the time by talking.
"Oh, my name is Jhon. And if you don't mind, may I ask you something?" Jhon replied.
Jhon's purpose was clear from the start: he wanted to be friends with Thor. It wasn't because he wanted to use him; he was genuinely interested in making friends—not only with Thor but with all the Avengers. That's why he had taken Bruce to a safe place—not just for Bruce's sake, but for Hulk's too.
"Go ahead, but I'm not sure I'll answer. Just letting you know," Jane said while driving.
"It's okay, Ms. Jane. I overheard your conversation in the restaurant—that some of your belongings were stolen by government officials."
"What about it?" Jane interrupted, her tone sharp as though the topic irritated her.
"Well, I don't mean anything by it. I just wanted to say that I have some connections with higher authorities. If you need help, I can try to resolve it for you," Jhon said calmly, not minding her angry tone.
"Is that so? I'll keep it in mind," Jane replied, though she didn't seem to believe him.
Jhon noticed the conversation with Jane reaching its limit, so he shifted topics. "By the way, sir, you look very strong. And the way you reacted earlier... it seems like they stole something from you as well. Mind if I ask what it is?"
Before Thor could answer, Jane interrupted again. "You have so many questions. Are you a lawyer or something?"
"I'm just curious, Ms. Jane," Jhon laughed.
Thor finally responded, "I'm going to get my hammer. That's all that matters. But can I ask you something, my friend?"
Jhon raised his eyebrows in surprise but nodded. "Go ahead."
"You're from Midgard too. But why are you the only one I've met who is strong?"
Jhon froze for a moment but quickly masked his shock. Before he could answer, Jane butted in.
"What is Midgard?"
Jhon sighed in relief, silently thanking Jane for redirecting the conversation. He misunderstood, though—Jane wouldn't have grasped Thor's meaning even if she had asked further. As someone obsessed with science, she couldn't comprehend what Thor meant by "strong."
"In Asgard, we call your realm Midgard. And there are other similar realms," Thor explained.
As they continued their conversation, rain began to pour outside. Undeterred, they eventually arrived at their destination.
Once out of the car, Thor seemed determined and began walking toward the hammer without delay. But Jane grabbed his arm, pulling him back.
Thor gave her a questioning look.
Shaking her head, Jane said, "You're just going to walk straight in? Do you know it's heavily guarded?"
"Don't worry, Jane. These Midgardians with little strength won't be able to stop me," Thor said confidently and resumed walking. But Jane grabbed him again.
Looking at her, Thor spoke first this time. "Don't worry, Jane. Once I get my hammer, I'll help you retrieve your things." Without waiting for her response, he quickened his pace to avoid being stopped again.
Jhon, shaking his head, ran after Thor and stopped him midway.
Thor, now irritated, frowned. But before he could express his annoyance, Jhon said, "Mr. Thor, you want to get inside, right? I can help you with that."
Thor and Jane exchanged suspicious looks.
"You can really do that?" Jane asked skeptically.
Jhon nodded. "Follow me."
Without waiting for their response, Jhon approached the main gate of the facility. Two agents standing guard noticed their approach.
"Stop right there. This is a restricted area. Turn back, or—" One of the agents began, but Jhon cut him off.
"Please don't misunderstand. Could you inform Agent Coulson that Jhon is here to see him?"
The agents exchanged glances before one of them nodded and stepped aside to radio the message. A moment later, he returned.
"Alright, Coulson is expecting you inside. But the other two can't come," the agent said firmly.
"Please let him know that these two are with me, and it's my request that they be allowed in," Jhon replied politely.
The agent relayed the request again, and this time permission was granted.
As they walked inside, Jane looked at Jhon in amazement. "You really know these people, huh? I thought you were just making things up to get a lift. Anyway, thanks for your help."
"It's no big deal, Ms. Jane. You helped me earlier, and now I've helped you. We're even," Jhon said with a smile.
Thor remained silent, his focus entirely on retrieving his hammer. Once I get my hammer, I'll repay you, Jhon, my friend, Thor thought.
As they moved further, Coulson suddenly appeared in front of them.
"Mr. Stark, you vanished without a trace. Where have you been?" Coulson asked, a hint of guilt in his tone.
Jhon snorted. "Don't play games with me, Coulson. I don't believe for a second that your agents couldn't find me in this small town."
Jhon wasn't actually angry; he just wanted to guilt-trip Coulson into granting his next request.
On the side, Jane looked at Jhon in shock. "Wait, did he call you Stark? No way. You don't look like Tony Stark. Did you lie about your name?"
Since childhood, Jhon has never liked going outside. He didn't even attend school or college, so most people don't know that Tony's little brother exists. Only a few upper echelons are aware of his existence.
Jhon, hearing this, didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "No, Ms. Jane, I didn't lie. My name is Jhon. Full name: Jhon Stark. I'm Tony Stark's younger brother."
