Chapter 28: 28. Unfortunate Jhon
As John, Thor, Jane, and Erik were talking among themselves, a knocking sound suddenly came from outside the window.
Turning to look, John had an unnoticeable smile on his face, but Thor suddenly stood up and went toward his friends, giving each of them a big hug. After separating, Thor said happily, "My friends, I have never been happier to see anyone."
But his expression turned sad, and he continued, "But you shouldn't have come."
Sif and the others were confused, and one of them said, "We're here to take you home."
Thor smiled sadly. "You know I can't go home," he said, staying silent for a while before continuing, "My father is dead because of me. I must remain in exile."
Sif looked at Thor in confusion and said, "Thor, your father still lives."
Hearing this, Thor was initially confused, but then it suddenly clicked. "Loki," he muttered.
"Yes, Loki," Sif continued. "He has taken control of Asgard after AllFather went into the Odin Sleep. Now he wants to wage war against the Jotunheim."
Thor's face darkened, his shoulders sagging under the weight of the revelation. "I should have known," he muttered, shaking his head. "This is my fault. If I hadn't been so reckless, if I hadn't—"
Sif interrupted firmly, her voice cutting through his self-blame. "Thor, this isn't about what you did. Right now, Asgard needs you. Loki's actions are putting everyone in danger, and we came here because you are the only one who can stop him."
Thor stared at her, conflicted emotions playing across his face. A spark of hope mixed with the heavy burden of responsibility began to flicker in his heart.
As they talked about the recent news from Asgard, a loud sound suddenly interrupted their conversation.
Walking out onto the street, Thor and the others looked around for the cause. After a while, everyone saw a massive figure walking toward the town.
The most surprised person was none other than John. He knew the Destroyer would be big, but this was like a titan. Seeing it, John was sure that the power of this Destroyer was far more monstrous than in the movie. With his current strength, it would be a hopeless fight. Now, John could only pray that everything would follow the movie's story; otherwise, they would lose badly.
Seeing that Thor was powerless in this fight, his friends stepped forward to face the monstrosity.
Sif was the first to charge toward the behemoth and engaged it head-on, while the others surrounded it and attacked with all their strength.
But their efforts didn't last long. Sif was soon thrown near where John and the others were standing. Seeing this, John had a bad feeling. As expected, the Destroyer fired a beam in their direction.
John was the first to react, using his mental power to push the others away to safety. However, he was too late to save himself. Without any other choice, John conjured a small water barrier to protect himself. But he underestimated the strength of the beam.
BOOM!
The water barrier shattered like a balloon. Fortunately, the shockwave threw John into a nearby shop, sparing him from a direct hit.
Thor stood up with difficulty and looked in John's direction, wanting to check on him. But he stopped mid-step, turning instead to his friends, who were risking their lives for his mistake. His expression wavered as though he was hesitating to do something.
Inside the wrecked shop, John opened his bloodshot eyes. He wasn't furious like the Hulk, but the pain he was holding back made his eyes red, as though he were about to cry.
Standing up slowly, John thought,' This fight has taken an unexpected turn. This wasn't supposed to happen. Now I have no choice but to fight. Sigh… I really didn't wanted to fight this time. I'm so unlucky.'
Looking around, John noticed something unexpected and muttered, "This is… unexpected."
Meanwhile, among Thor's friends, two were already down. Only Sif and Volstagg were still fighting, their bodies covered in wounds. Despite their struggle, it was a futile effort.
Sif, who was slightly stronger than the others, made a small mistake and was blasted to the ground by the Destroyer's beam. Seeing her struggle, the Destroyer ignored Volstagg and began advancing toward her, firing beams relentlessly as though it had infinite energy.
Sif, barely clinging to life, couldn't move anymore.
Just as the Destroyer was about to reach Sif, a strange figure appeared behind it. Without saying a word, the figure placed one hand on the ground. Moments later, the earth trembled, and a long green vine burst from the ground, slithering toward the Destroyer like a snake.
As the Destroyer was about to step on Sif, the vine coiled around its foot and yanked it off balance. The massive construct crashed to the ground with a thunderous BOOM!
This all happened in a matter of seconds, and no one had noticed the figure until now.
Looking at the figure's attire, everyone's first thought was: "Batman?"
Even Coulson and the agents watching from a distance were speechless.
Inside the Batman costume was none other than John. He had found the costume in the shop he was thrown into and used it to conceal his identity.
' I never thought I'd become Batman in the Marvel universe,' John thought to himself, feeling embarrassed.
Seeing the Destroyer down, John activated his wind rune. His legs were suddenly enveloped in wind elemental particles. Taking a step forward, John vanished and reappeared in front of the Destroyer. Placing his hand on the ground again, he summoned another vine that coiled around the behemoth, pinning it down.
"Lady, get away fast! I can't hold it for long!" John shouted to Sif.
Even though the Destroyer looked subdued, John remained cautious. As expected, the Destroyer twisted its head and fired a beam at him suddenly.
Prepared, John quickly conjured multiple small water barriers, concentrating their strength to absorb the beam. The resulting explosion covered the area in dust and steam.
When the dust cleared, the Destroyer remained, but John was nowhere to be seen.
