Retreat!
It's been an hour since the terrifying battle commenced between four humans and countless ten-legged creatures—an hour of the total one-sided massacre.
The air has become entirely intoxicated to the point that even a breath could kill hundreds of manaless humans. Not only that, even amateur mana users could get choked to death due to the overcrowding of such dense pollution.
Compared to the previous floor where Kyouki fought the Serpent Queen, this floor was massive enough to let the four, fight to their heart's content without being cornered. They also kept their distance from others in check, so they didn't stray carelessly in the heat of the battle.
Cordelia was the only person who still hadn't ascended in the battle frenzy mode, and she was the only one having difficulties keeping up with the number of enemies emerging at such an alarming rate.
Using the Unique Grade daggers she received from the Capital, she eradicated the spiders and utilized her shadow skills against those who attacked from her blind spot.
Unlike the others, she didn't have any long weapons, which she was regretting at the moment.
"Look at them. What training they have gone through….'
Looking at distant places from where several big explosions and lightning thunders flared up, she thought about how much she had overestimated herself.
"Look out!! "
**SLIIING**
*KHEEK**
To her utter astonishment, Kyouki appeared out of nowhere as his blade bisected one of the spiders heading toward Cordelia from above.
Covered in blood, both stood face to face after Kyouki helped his friend to get up.
"I-I…
Cordelia stuttered in a fret blended with shame since, due to her carelessness, her beloved had to get out of his way to help her. And some minutes ago, she was dreaming of doing something like that.
The day couldn't go any worse than this!
"It's okay, Lia. Don't worry. I have got your back."
Kyouki brought his hand to Cordelia's cheek as he tried to calm her down when they had the small window to chat.
There were spiders in thousands of numbers around, but it would take time to approach these two humans.
As Kyouki expected, Cordelia sobered up as she stared at his eyes for a long second before she responded in a resolute tone.
"Thanks for the support, Kyo-chan. I won't disappoint you again."
Saying so, Cordelia extended her hand and called for her daggers which had been previously thrown somewhere with her fall.
Kyouki nodded with a smile before the two continued fighting, but this time in closer proximity to keep close eyes on each other.
On the other side, Saya was on a rampage to quench her bloodthirst. She wasn't just slaying the monster. Saya concluded the spiders' existence in the most brutal way, a human could ever is capable of.
She fought monsters, but if looked closely, there wasn't anyone bigger monster on the battlefield than her.
"Everyone retreat to the center right now."
Suddenly Saya, as well as the other two, halted in their movements as they heard Austin's voice resonating in their mind. Cordelia glanced at Kyouki, upon which the latter nodded with a frown before they cleared their surroundings and leaped back to the place from where they had started.
Saya also did the same, but her agility was somewhat immeasurable since she thought that her brother might have gotten hurt.
But to her utter relief, Austin was standing there, all healthy and unscathed, without a stain of blood over him at all.
"Sorry for the unsightly appearance Onii-sama."
Saya blushed upon seeing herself, all covered in blood and gore, unlike her brother, who was still as majestic as ever. Well, seeing her brother sweaty and covered in the same shade as hers would have been erotic too, but by no means would she say that.
"Don't be. It's a battlefield, so treat this blood as your ornaments and be proud."
Saya smiled heartily as she felt elated being praised by her brother every time.
Soon Kyouki and Cordelia also landed at the center, which was the most vacant place available at the moment. The spiders have detected the movement of their prey, but it would take at least twenty seconds to reach the group.
As soon they stepped in a certain range, Austin broke something which was in his hand, before a white smoke covered all of the four, astonishing the new arrives.
"This… ?"
As Kyouki asked, he saw the spiders, which were previously charging in their direction, were now frozen statues at their place.
"It's a time-freezing barrier that would last for five minutes. I thought some of you might need a breather before we continue."
Austin glanced at the panting Cordelia, who, upon being watched, became flustered and stood straight to pretend that she was fine.
Kyouki felt guilty for not noticing his friend's struggle and bringing her to such a spot.
"First, nourish yourself with mana until you guys have time."
Upon hearing Austin, the other three, along with the speaker himself, channeled mana through their pores. The effect of the Mana-suppressing pill is consistent, but not until the user himself tries to break through.
(A/N: - This breaking-the-pill effect is only possible in low grades pills not the higher ones.)
The need to nourish someone with mana was fundamental. Superhumans' life essence is their magical energy. Suppressing it for long might hamper them, so until they get the time it would be beneficial to shower themselves with the essence.
"These things aren't decreasing at all."
Muttering under her breath, Cordelia surveyed the vicinity and shivered upon sensing the number, which seemed to be multiplying with time.
"Indeed, they won't end until you don't burn it."
Every attention was gathered on the blond youth before he continued with his explanation.
"These things regenerate from even a simple fang, so cutting them wouldn't be sufficient. And without mana, you guys can't use fire magic, right?"
The others leaned their face downward since it was true for what all Austin spoke. And the vulnerability of spiders, he concluded, was observed by the other three, too; that's why they didn't argue with Austin.
"Onii-sama. My black lightning can…."
Saya seemed to take charge of bringing hell into the labyrinth, but Austin shook his head and spoke in a blatant tone.
"No, it won't, Saya. They are at least five thousand in number, and I have studied your sword skills. It won't do."
Saya bit her lips as she realized what her brother said was true and blamed herself for being such a useless little sister.
Austin sighed upon seeing his dejected sister and decided to coax her afterward.
'I might have spoken a little harsh….'
"Austin. What about me? I am confident in my blessing to annihilate this lot by myself."
Clutching his sword, Kyouki spoke in a poised tone only to get rejected by the latter.
"Nope. Save your energy, for now, hero. I might need that in a later situation."
Kyouki wanted to say something, but knowing his limitations, the hero could only grit his teeth and again let himself rely on his greatest rival.
Throwing his weapon back in inventory, Austin cracked his knuckles and neck before he called out for others.
"Just as the barrier vanishes, don't dare to leave my side."
