Chapter 12: The summoner 2
The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting long shadows across the forest as Dante and Asuna trudged back toward their camp. They had spent the better part of two days combing through the island, foraging for food, and searching for signs of civilization.
"Finally," Dante muttered, brushing a low-hanging branch out of his way. "I was starting to think this island was completely deserted."
Asuna, walking a few steps ahead, shot him a glance. "Be glad it's not. If we're going to survive in this world, we need information and supplies."
Dante sighed but didn't argue. They had found a small village nestled on the edge of the forest earlier that day. It wasn't much—just a handful of wooden houses near the coastline—but it had been enough to spark both hope and caution.
The presence of ships docked along the shore, bearing a variety of flags, was a concern. From the distance, they couldn't tell if the vessels belonged to merchants, pirates, or someone else entirely.
"We'll go back tomorrow to get a closer look," Asuna said, her tone firm. "But for now, we need to rest and plan."
"Yeah, yeah," Dante muttered, brushing sand off his clothes as they approached their camp.
Back at the camp, Dante flopped onto a makeshift log bench they'd fashioned the previous day. His body ached from two days of training and trekking through the island's dense jungle.
"You look half-dead," Asuna said, tossing him a flask of water.
"Thanks," he said, catching it and taking a long swig. "But I've got to admit, I feel... stronger."
Asuna raised an eyebrow. "Stronger, huh? Let's see if your system agrees."
Dante hesitated for a moment before opening the glowing blue interface. "System, show my status," he muttered.
The screen materialized before him, displaying his updated stats.
Dante Verga
Race: Human
Body: 9 (+2)
Mind: 8 (+1)
Spirit: 6 (+1)
Magic: 2 (+1)
Credit: 100
"Hey, look at that! I'm not as useless as I was two days ago."
Asuna leaned over to glance at the screen. "Body went up by six. That's your physical strength and endurance, right?"
"Yeah," Dante said, flexing his arms dramatically. "Guess all your torture—I mean, training—is paying off."
"Mind and Spirit improved, too," Asuna noted. "That could be from observation and meditation practice. And Magic... Well, maybe you're starting to tap into some latent abilities."
"Magic?" Dante scoffed, waving dismissively. "Unless it lets me shoot fireballs or fly, I'm not that interested."
Asuna gave him a look. "You might change your mind when you're up against someone with a Devil Fruit power."
The reminder sobered him up quickly. "Good point," he muttered. "Maybe I should start taking that part a bit more seriously."
-later-
Dante woke up and got up noticing Asuna was still asleep he decided not to disturb her and went out on his own as he left their shelter.
He started walking around the island mostly thinking to himself about his system.
He still has some Gacha stuff from the newbie package he didn't want to use it all immediately, but he thought since he had good luck with summoning Asuna maybe he'll be lucky and summon another good companion as he thought that he summoned the token to his hand.
He activated the token, and with a flash of light, a figure materialized before him. This time, the summoned person was a striking young woman with dark hair tied into a large, sophisticated ponytail. Her figure was tall and graceful, standing confidently as she surveyed her surroundings with sharp, analytical eyes. Dante recognized her immediately Momo Yaoyorozu a character from MHA.
She was dressed in a high-cut, dark red outfit, which had an opening between her breast. The suit hugged her curves, accentuating her lithe yet well-defined physique. Momo's chest was notably full, her large breasts drawing attention under the tight fabric of her costume, but her overall appearance gave off an aura of grace and maturity. Her face was elegant, with delicate features and dark brown eyes that exuded intelligence and composure.
"Ah... Dante, was it?" Momo spoke in a clear, controlled voice, giving him a polite yet curious glance. She quickly assessed the situation, as if gathering information. "It seems I've been summoned. Is there something you require assistance with?"
She said calmly staring at him.
Dante stood up, surprised but pleased by the summon. "Yeah, I was hoping for someone useful but with your power should be and by the way, I already have another companion hope you two get along," he said, glancing over her.
She nodded "now come you should go back to camp" he said as he started walking her, follow him.
As they neared the camp, Asuna was already awake and tending to the fire. She looked up when she saw Momo and raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"Another one?" Asuna asked, her tone laced with skepticism.
Momo stood tall, giving Asuna a polite nod. "I am Momo Yaoyorozu. It seems I have been summoned to assist."
Asuna scrutinized her for a moment, then gave Dante a look. "Well, we'll see if should be useful."
Momo nodded without hesitation. "I'm sure I will. For now, I suggest we get organized and discuss our next steps."
-later-
Asuna and Momo had taken it upon themselves to make some new clothing for Momo, as her current outfit was too revealing for practical use on the island.
Dante was busy gathering materials for their trip the next day when he overheard Momo talking to Asuna.
"You know," Momo said, "I think I should change my attire. It's impractical for the conditions here."
Asuna nodded. "You're right. Let me see what I can do with some of the materials we've collected."
Dante, not wanting to intrude on their conversation, was about to step outside to prepare for their reconnaissance mission. However, Momo caught his eye and, with a calm voice, said, "You can stay. I don't mind. Besides, it's just the three of us here."
Dante, a little taken aback but not wanting to make it awkward, hesitated. "Uh, alright, I'll just be over here then," he mumbled, shifting a bit in his seat.
But as Momo began removing her outfit, Dante couldn't help but glance in her direction. His eyes lingered for a moment longer than they should have, taking in the elegant lines of her body and the shape of her form. Momo, in all her confidence and grace, seemed completely at ease with herself.
Before Dante could pull his attention away, Asuna stormed into the shelter, catching him mid-glance. Her eyes narrowed, and without missing a beat, she strode up to Dante and grabbed him by the collar.
"Out!" she snapped, shoving him toward the exit. "You're going fishing. Now."
Dante stammered, caught completely off guard. "I-I wasn't..."
Asuna cut him off with a look that could freeze fire. "You're not staying in here. Go. Now."
Momo, unfazed by the situation, adjusted the makeshift clothing Asuna had given her and nodded politely. "It's alright, Asuna" she tries to say before she gets a look from her.
Dante, still flustered, hurried out of the shelter. "I swear, I wasn't...."
"Go fish," Asuna called after him, her voice firm.
With no other option, Dante groaned but complied. He grabbed a spear they had made the day before and went out to the closest lake close to their shelter.
-later-
Dante returned to the camp, his arms full of freshly caught fish. The smell of the lake water was still strong on his clothes as he approached the shelter, where Momo and Asuna had already started preparing the area for a meal. He couldn't help but glance over at Momo, who had now changed into the outfit Asuna had crafted for her. The new outfit was more practical dark pants and a fitted tunic, still highlighting her graceful form but in a much more modest way than before. It was a relief for both her and Asuna, who had grown tired of worrying about Momo's original outfit.
"Got us a decent haul," Dante said, dropping the fish near the fire pit.
Asuna nodded in approval, picking up a few fish to start preparing. "Good. We'll cook these up and get ready for tomorrow."
Momo, who had been helping Asuna set things up, glanced at Dante. "I must admit, I'm impressed. Your fishing skills seem quite good."
Dante gave a half-smile. "Had to learn on the fly. No time to be picky about methods."
With the fish cooking over the fire, Dante took a seat and decided it was time to do something with the Gacha tokens he'd been holding onto from his newbie package. He had been hesitant to use them, but now seemed as good a time as any to test his luck.
"System," Dante muttered, focusing on the tokens. "Activate Gacha X5."
Five glowing orbs appeared in his hand, each one pulsating with light. With a deep breath, Dante cracked them open one by one. Each orb shattered with a brief flash of light, and five items materialized in his inventory.
Asuna and Momo watched with curiosity as he checked the results.
Basic Healing Potion (x3)
Skill Book: Stealth Movement
Uncommon Weapon: Shortsword of Agility
"Well, that wasn't too bad," Dante said, inspecting the items. "Healing potions are always useful. And I might as well learn how to move without making noise." He eyed the shortsword. "Could come in handy."
Momo raised an eyebrow. "I assume the sword has a special property?"
Dante grinned. "Yep, it's supposed to make me quicker on my feet. Might be good for those surprise moments when you need to escape... or catch someone off guard."
Asuna, who had finished preparing the fish, handed plates to both Momo and Dante. "You two can talk later. Let's eat."
They settled down around the campfire, the crackling of the flames mixing with the sounds of the island as they ate their meal in quiet satisfaction. The fish was delicious, and the mood felt lighter after the earlier tension. It wasn't much, but it was enough for now.
After finishing their meal, they cleared the area and settled into their makeshift shelter. Dante lay back on the ground, feeling the exhaustion of the day wash over him, but there was a sense of anticipation hanging in the air. Tomorrow, they would go to the village and hopefully get some answers about who else might be on the island.
Momo, her calm demeanor unwavering, gave Dante a small nod. "Tomorrow, then."
Asuna, already settling into her spot, gave a tired but determined look. "Let's make sure we're ready. We don't know what we'll be walking into."
Dante nodded. "Right. Early start tomorrow. Got it."
The three of them drifted off to sleep, the first hints of sunrise already beginning to color the horizon.
-later-
The early morning light filtered through the trees as Dante slowly woke up, stretching out his stiff limbs. The air was crisp, and the camp was still silent except for the soft sounds of the island's wildlife. The others were still sleeping, but Dante had never been one to sleep in when there was work to do or plans to make.
He sat up, rubbing his eyes and then pulling up his inventory screen. His gaze first landed on the three items he had won from the Gacha pulls. He'd been thinking about them all night, and now he was ready to check them out.
The Healing Potions (x3) were straightforward. Each potion had a description that stated it could heal up to 25% of a person's total health in a single use, so they'd be invaluable in case of injury or need for quick recovery. No surprises there.
Next, he moved on to the Shortsword of Agility. As he focused on it, the weapon's details materialized in front of him.
Shortsword of Agility
Type: Weapon (Sword)
Rarity: Uncommon
Effect: +10% increase to movement speed while equipped.
Special Ability: Swift Strike – Increases attack speed by 20% for 10 seconds after a successful hit.
Durability: 150/150
Weight: Light
Description: A well-crafted shortsword with a thin, sharp blade. Perfect for quick, fluid strikes in close quarters. The lightweight nature of this weapon allows the user to move faster and strike with precision.
Dante couldn't help but grin. "Nice. This is definitely something that will give me an edge in combat." The extra speed would be helpful, especially when it came to dodging attacks or getting in and out of dangerous situations quickly. He could already imagine how it might make his style more fluid.
Finally, he moved on to the Skill Book: Stealth Movement. He opened it with a bit more curiosity, and the description appeared:
Skill Book: Stealth Movement
Type: Consumable
Description: Grants the user the ability to move silently, leaving little to no trace behind. Great for sneaking, avoiding detection, or performing covert actions. The skill improves with practice.
Skill Level: 1/10 (Maximum Level: 10)
Duration: 5 minutes per use
Cooldown: 30 minutes
Without hesitation, Dante selected the Skill Book. A flash of light enveloped him for a moment, and then the skill was added to his abilities.
[Stealth Movement] Level 1/10
You can move silently at a moderate pace. You leave fewer traces and make less noise, allowing you to avoid detection by most enemies.
He felt a slight shift in his body, as though his movements had become a bit more controlled. He smiled to himself. "Let's see if this works."
After taking a few minutes to test out the skill, he moved through the camp as quietly as possible, trying not to disturb Asuna or Momo. The effect was noticeable; he moved in a way that felt almost instinctual, lighter on his feet and more aware of his surroundings. It was a good start.
Asuna stirred from her sleep, but Dante quickly used his newfound skill to silently slip away, out of the camp and into the surrounding area. He tested it further by crouching low and moving around some rocks. He was able to avoid making even the slightest noise, and the skill felt like it had real potential.
Satisfied with his progress, Dante returned to camp just as the sun was beginning to rise higher in the sky. He sat back down, content that he had made good use of his time.
Asuna sat up, rubbing her eyes and noticing Dante's return. "Up early," she remarked with a yawn.
"Had some things to check out," Dante replied, flashing a grin. "I've got a new skill, and I'm already getting the hang of it."
Momo, now awake as well, gave a brief nod of acknowledgment. "It seems like you're preparing well. I look forward to seeing how you handle yourself in the village."
Dante nodded. "Yeah. I think we're ready. Let's head out soon, before the village gets too crowded."
The three of them finished their morning routines and packed up their camp, ready to head out toward the village. The day ahead promised answers or at least the opportunity to gather more information about the island.
-later-
The trio made their way toward the village, their steps steady as they navigated the narrow paths between the wooden houses. The salty air from the sea grew stronger as they neared the coastline, and the sound of waves crashing against the shore became more pronounced. As they reached the edge of the village, the sight of the ships docked along the shoreline came into view.
Dante, Asuna, and Momo exchanged glances, their intentions clear. They needed to find a ship preferably one that was heading toward Loguetown, where they could find more information and hopefully a way off the island.
The ships in the harbor varied in size and design. Some appeared to be merchant vessels, with goods piled high on the decks, while others looked like smaller, faster ships that could belong to marines or merchants.
"Let's stick to the docks and avoid attracting attention," Asuna suggested, her voice low and practical. "We don't know who's friendly or who might cause trouble."
Dante nodded. "Agreed. We'll find a ship that looks like it's headed to a major port and see if we can convince them to take us along."
They moved carefully along the docks, trying to stay in the shadows where possible. The crew members of the ships seemed too busy unloading cargo or preparing for their next voyage to pay much attention to the trio. However, Dante kept an eye on their surroundings, aware that not all sailors could be trusted.
As they walked past a particularly large ship, a man in a coat with a faded marine insignia caught sight of them. He squinted at the trio, sizing them up before speaking.
"Are you looking for a ride?" he asked, his voice gruff but not unfriendly. He gestured toward the ship behind him. "This one's bound for Loguetown, but we don't take just anyone."
Dante took a step forward, trying to read the man's expression. "We've got a few things to trade and some questions about the island. We need to get to Loguetown quickly."
The man stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Hmm, you seem capable enough. But I'll need to know you won't cause trouble. How about you work for your ride? Help out on the ship for a bit, and you've got yourselves a place."
Asuna exchanged a brief look with Momo before Dante spoke again. "That sounds fair enough. What do you need help with?"
The man eyed them for a moment, then nodded. "Good. Help me with some of the cargo here, and you'll earn your passage. We've got supplies to offload, and there's always something to do on a ship."
With that, Dante, Asuna, and Momo set to work, unloading crates and organizing supplies. It wasn't glamorous, but it was a fair trade for their passage. As they worked, Dante couldn't help but glance back at the ship's crew, noting their movements and listening in on their conversations. The more he could learn about them, the better.
Hours later, after the work was done, the captain called them over to the side of the ship. "You've done well," he said, offering them a small smile. "You've earned your ride. We leave in the morning, so get some rest tonight. I'll have a spot for you in the crew quarters."
Dante, Asuna, and Momo nodded in acknowledgment. "Thanks," Dante said. "We'll be ready."
As they walked away from the ship to find a place to rest.
