Joseon Idols

Chapter 4.2

We picked out some fabric and had a jacket and pants tailored for him. On our way back, the market suddenly became a flurry of activity as people rushed to clear the streets.

“Wha’s goin’ on?” Byeolho asked, his mouth still full of food as he grabbed a nearby vendor.

“Ah, they say the new magistrate is passing through with his procession, so we’ve been ordered to clear the way.”

Watching the merchants hurriedly pack up their stalls piqued my curiosity.

“A magistrate must be pretty smart, right? You have to ace the state exams to become one, don’t you? Top of the nation?”

“Yes, top of the nation.”

“That’s like… Seoul National University level, right?”

“Well, he’s probably even more brilliant than what you are thinking.”

When we reached the tavern, the magistrate’s procession passed by. It was quite the spectacle, with men on horseback leading the way and a grand band playing triumphantly. I had no idea how far this procession would stretch, but it was an impressive sight.

Suddenly, Byeolho pressed his hands firmly on my head, forcing me to bow low to the ground.

“What are you doing? I just want to watch!”

“I-I thought we were supposed to bow when someone important passes by…”

“Look around; everyone’s just watching!”

“It’s my first time seeing a magistrate, that’s all. Ahem.”

Indeed, the people around us were openly gawking at the procession, just like I was. Realizing this, Byeolho looked embarrassed and scratched his head sheepishly.

Seeing him so flustered made me feel a bit guilty. Wanting to cheer him up, I said.

“What’s so great about being a magistrate, except being the top of the nation?”

“It’s a magistrate position.”

Ah. Right. It

is

a magistrate position…

This time, it was my turn to awkwardly scratch my head as I glanced away.

“So that’s someone who aced the state exams and became a magistrate, huh?”

The person on the elaborate horse had a surprisingly sharp and agile look about them. And—wait. It wasn’t just a resemblance.

It was

him

.

Yeolha.

Our second member.

“Yeolha! Yeolha!”

Waving my arms wildly above my head, I called out to him. It wasn’t until then that he finally looked in my direction.

There you are, you rascal. You’re here too?

You were always the smart one. Unlike Byeolho, you must remember everything, right? Us! WON Entertainment!

Yeol! Yeolha! I miss you so much more than ten times a day! Yeol! Ha!
