Journey to the West (Black Myth)

Chapter 36: Shi Yue Visits, The Bull Demon King Flees Shocked Again

Shi Yue couldn't suppress his excitement, feeling proud to be true brothers with them. While others might not know, he was fully aware of the immense future that awaited both. Sun Wukong, the havoc in the Heavenly Palace, would become renowned across the Three Realms! The Six-Eared Macaque, too, was anything but simple, with potential that would likely rival Sun Wukong's.

To be brothers with such figures filled Shi Yue with pride. His excitement was genuine, not forced. Sun Wukong was naturally loyal and bold, deeply emotional, so he was just as thrilled by the moment. The Six-Eared Macaque was visibly sensitive, quick to repay kindness in great measure.

Or perhaps both the Six-Eared Macaque and Sun Wukong, having never truly felt love or kinship, were overwhelmed by Shi Yue's heartfelt words—fearless of heaven and earth! Unafraid of gods and Buddhas!

After their declarations, Sun Wukong unabashedly revealed, "Now that we three are brothers, you should know, Six Paths, you have a sister-in-law. She's our senior sister, more powerful than us, and we're both quite wary of her. Hehe, if she visits Flower Fruit Mountain, treat her with the respect befitting a brother."

Shi Yue's face darkened, not due to offense, but a feeling of awkward exposure. What do you mean, we're both wary of her? I've never feared her! Would I have dared to sneak a taste while she slept if I was afraid?

With a forced bravado, Shi Yue puffed his chest. Afraid of my wife! Damn! Will this reputation spread across the Three Realms?

Six Paths remained enthusiastic, "Since she's a sister-in-law, she's family, part of Flower Fruit Mountain. Who would dare disrespect her? I, Six Paths, will not tolerate it."

His words resonated like an oath, leaving Shi Yue embarrassed. He coughed, trying to regain composure, "Don't listen to your monkey brother's nonsense. I, Shi Yue, am a grand demon king of Flower Fruit Mountain. Why would I fear a woman? Women shouldn't be indulged, or they'll act out. You have to discipline them! Use the shoe—then they'll listen. I've got..."

Before he could finish, Sun Wukong burst into laughter, and even Six Paths couldn't help but chuckle quietly, thinking, "This Brother Shi Yue is truly amusing, having him as a brother is a blessing."

Feeling affronted, Shi Yue snapped, "What do you mean? I’m not afraid of her! Bring her here, and I'll show you!"

With lips pressed tight, Six Paths held back, but Sun Wukong laughed uproariously, saying, "With your prowess, I'd better let Senior Sister know, see how you manage! Haha, Old Sun can't take it!"

Even the usually composed Six Paths couldn't help a chuckle escaping.

Shi Yue roared, "If you two keep laughing, I swear I'll thrash you both!"

Sun Wukong's eyes gleamed challengingly, "Brother, don’t brag. We two aren't afraid of you. Let's go to the East Sea, all three of us, for some friendly sparring."

Six Paths's eyes also lit up, but Shi Yue suddenly looked odd and murmured, "Wukong, do you have a grudge with the East Sea? We can't keep messing with our neighbor."

Sun Wukong's face turned red with embarrassment, unable to retort, while Six Paths merely smiled lightly.

Shi Yue continued, "Let's put off the sparring for now. Can you tell me about that eater earlier? To enter Water Curtain Cave and have your personal company, they must be someone significant."

At this point, Shi Yue didn't want to reveal his strength, saving it for a grand surprise for The Heavenly Court, especially knowing they intended to destroy Flower Fruit Mountain.

Hearing this, Sun Wukong eagerly recounted the tale of the Bull Demon King, including his past boasting and the recent alliance with the six brothers, leaving Shi Yue stunned. He couldn't help but think repeatedly, "The famous Bull Demon King, damn! To have been so scared of me, that's truly amusing."

When it came to the Bull Demon King's boasting, even Six Paths couldn't help but listen intently, despite having heard it before, feeling inspired and looking at Shi Yue with admiration. Such prowess—truly a brother of Six Paths!

Not only had Shi Yue, at the Golden Immortal level, overtaken a well-known Taiyi Golden Immortal-level Bodhisattva, but he had also achieved the Taiyi realm amid the battle! Significantly, he forced Pusa Pilanp to reveal her true form, escaping with her primal spirit. Such feats were unprecedented, explaining why the uninformed Bull Demon King was so frightened.

When discussing the brotherhood of six, Shi Yue asked, "Brother, what prompted you to bond with them?"

Sun Wukong casually waved it off, saying, "It wasn't even my idea. Just as we somehow knew our names at birth, for some reason, it feels fated. Moreover, they have their virtues, so I thought being sworn brothers wasn’t bad."

Shi Yue was taken aback, thinking, "Damn, can things work like this?" Turning to Six Paths, he asked, "Six Paths, what do you think?"

Six Paths furrowed his brow slightly, "I see little use."

Sun Wukong asked, "How so?"

Six Paths looked at Shi Yue, and Shi Yue glanced back. With that single look, they understood each other, and Shi Yue said, "Brother, do as you see fit. Now that we three are brothers, no calamity can come that we won't face together."

Six Paths nodded firmly, "Indeed, as Brother Shi Yue says."

Shi Yue thought to himself that Six Paths was truly exceptional, as he seemed to sense the coming crisis, making his return to Flower Fruit Mountain even more precious. Having such brothers is fortunate for me, Shi Yue thought. Six Paths was equally surprised, realizing Brother Shi Yue might have known about the calamity, confirming the profound depth of his insight.

Meanwhile, Shi Yue couldn't help but feel eager to meet those great demon kings, who were once renowned figures. Even if they were destined to die, they should wait until I've seen them!

Shi Yue suddenly thought of something and said to Sun Wukong, "I heard you have a divine weapon; let me, your brother, take a look."

The famous Ruyi Jingu Bang, how could he not want to see it?

Sun Wukong instantly feigned resistance, huffing, "We were born at the same time, no distinctions in elder or younger, yet you have the cheek to call yourself Old Sun’s elder brother."

Despite his grumbling, Sun Wukong pulled from his ear a staff shimmering with golden light, unable to hide his pride: "This is Old Sun's Ruyi Jingu Bang, a destined treasure. You two can give it a try and see if you can lift it."

His boasting was quite apparent.

Six Paths reached to take it, his face instantly changed, "I didn’t expect it to be this heavy."

Despite this, his ease with the staff caught Sun Wukong's eye, thinking, "My brother's judgment is indeed sharp. This brother Six Paths is quite extraordinary, a true hero of Flower Fruit Mountain and a brother of Sun Wukong."

Next, Shi Yue took it. Contrary to Six Paths' comment, it felt perfectly balanced, not too heavy, fitting comfortably in his hand. This reaction was seen differently by the others: Six Paths was surprised at Shi Yue's ease, while Sun Wukong's expression turned complicated, filled with a mix of woe and concern, "Could this treasure also be destined for my brother? It seems unfair."

Sun Wukong then said, "Brother, show us your staff, and Six Paths, present your stick. Let's compare and see whose weapon is better."

Six Paths' eyes gleamed, eager to see Shi Yue's weapon, though puzzled as to why Sun Wukong called it a staff.

Shi Yue, surprised that Six-Eared Macaque also wielded a staff, thought, "Great, three demon kings of Flower Fruit Mountain with three staffs; no one would stand a chance! If the mischievous senior sister sees this, she'll surely laugh with delight."

The three of them then laid out their weapons for comparison, immediately revealing their differences.

Sun Wukong's Ruyi Jingu Bang had a section of dark iron and emitted a bright golden light by his will, making it resemble a golden staff. Shi Yue's Measuring Sky Staff was entirely black, without blemishes, exuding an aura of mystery. Six Paths’ staff, a solid dark wooden stick, felt profoundly heavy when Shi Yue hefted it, embodying a solid weight.

The three of them played with each other's weapons, and when they realized they all wielded staff weapons, they burst into laughter together.

Shi Yue suddenly asked, "Why, with all this commotion, hasn’t Taibai or the others come to check on us?"

Sun Wukong nonchalantly replied, "You should ask Six Paths."

Smiling, Six Paths said, "As Brother Shi Yue once said, 'Without rules, nothing can be accomplished.' Brother Sun Wukong is often busy, so the tens of thousands of demon soldiers of Flower Fruit Mountain have been left for me to manage. I've set some rules, so if Brother Shi Yue wants to see them, just let me call, and they'll come."

When Six Paths settled into Flower Fruit Mountain, he saw that Sun Wukong was a hands-off Great King, hardly managing any affairs, and the tens of thousands of demon soldiers were disorganized. He took the initiative to propose handling Flower Fruit Mountain’s affairs.

Sun Wukong didn't mind, thinking, "He's a brother and the Second Great King of Flower Fruit Mountain—what's there to mind? I'm grateful he's eager to work; Old Sun appreciates it."

The Four Marshals, twelve commanders, and seventy-two cave demon kings of Flower Fruit Mountain, having been protected by Six Paths, were supportive. Since their Great King had no objections, they followed the Second Great King's directives.

Shi Yue wasn't concerned; he had merely asked without much thought, continuing to chat with them for a long time. Then, he expressed a desire to visit the Bull Demon King and the others, intrigued by their famed reputations, similar to how iconic figures like Guanyin and Pigsy intrigued him. With the opportunity present, he couldn't resist.

As for the Ullambana Festival, although he was curious and considered causing mischief or thievery, he had no idea how to get there. He decided to stay at Flower Fruit Mountain, awaiting The Heavenly Court's next move, and worked on setting up the Six Jia Divination Array. If Senior Sister Taiyin showed up, he could send her off promptly.

However, when he announced himself as Shi Yue, the Great King and grand demon king of Flower Fruit Mountain, and visited the Bull Demon King to pay his respects, the Bull Demon King abandoned his demon soldiers and fled! This left Shi Yue utterly stunned. Damn! I just wanted to see you; did I frighten you that much?
