Vol 2. Prologue

Dust dances across the earth-colored expanse that stretches to the distant horizon.

A zebra, grazing on low shrubs, raises its head and twitches its ears at the distant, unfamiliar sound. Other animals react similarly; a vulture, pecking at a carcass, hastily takes flight.

In a fit of pique at having its rare feast interrupted, the vulture decides to teach the approaching newcomer who the true ruler of this wasteland is. It swoops toward the source of the noise and smoke with its large wings.

And then it saw.

A strange, box-shaped white object. It resembled, yet was different from, the human-made vehicle known as a carriage.

The vulture flew alongside the speeding thing in a wide arc.

This strange carriage had no horse to mock. The part where a human would sit to control the horse was oddly roofed and surrounded by unusually clear panels.

Inside, there were indeed a human and a dwarf. However, they exuded an unapproachable aura. Especially the dwarf, who seemed particularly dangerous. Instinct told the vulture to beware.

Suddenly, the human seemed to notice the vulture flying parallel, and with a foolish expression, lightly waved.

This made the vulture feel silly, prompting it to leave the scene.

Unfortunately, the creature controlling this carriage seemed far stronger than them. But surely, it couldn’t follow into the sky.

With a slight adjustment of its wing angle, the vulture slowly ascended. The strange white carriage grew smaller below.

However.

The vulture wondered.

Why was that thing in such a place…?
