Chapter 119

Chapter 119. Three Companion And Camper Van

Bam!

Hagg smashed the table with a huge fist.

It’s a wonder the table didn’t break. Maybe he unconsciously held back.

“Kukuku… you’re getting heated. I’ll explain. Goblins typically reproduce with a few females, but if they acquire human, elf, or dwarf females who have the right compatibility, they explode in numbers. This is called the Goblin Hazard. These compatible females are called ‘vessels.’”

What the heck is that?

That would just lead to war.

“Kukuku. Humans rarely have compatibility, but dwarf girls have a decent chance, and elf girls have a high chance of becoming vessels. So, goblins particularly target dwarves and elves. To elves and dwarves, goblins are enemies to be exterminated.”

I glanced at Yaralai, who had his arms crossed and a deep frown. His sharp gaze alone seemed lethal. Hagg looked similar.

“Kukuku… once a female becomes a vessel, her body is half-transformed and she continuously births goblins daily, becoming nothing more than a tool. Because of this trait, other races loathe and target goblins for annihilation.”

Sure, the goblins have their reasons, but extermination seems the only option. I can’t understand it, but if it were my family, I’d go mad. Normally.

“If it’s on your way, why don’t you exterminate them?”

“Why state the obvious? And why do you think it’s not your problem?”

“… Huh?”

“Indeed. Goblins are weak. Akira’s training is just right.”

“… What?”

“Kukuku… kuhahaha!”

Huh? What?

Am I getting dragged into something crazy?

Despite endless persuasion that night, I was ultimately roped into the subjugation.

How did it come to this?

Damn it, goddess…

===========================

“What’s for breakfast?”

That’s Hagg’s first line. Are you perpetually hungry?

“Let’s see… can we eat at the tavern?”

“Hm? Oh, usually when merchants are around. They’re here now, so it should be open.”

“Thanks.”

I handed the innkeeper two copper coins… about 20 yen.

… That’s normal, right?

We entered the tavern without any scornful looks. Breakfast was millet soup for 380 yen. With nothing else to do, I ate quickly and decided to leave.

Remaining money: 285,264 yen.

“Before we leave, I want to check the car, so kill some time.”

“Hm. I’ll look too.”

“I’ll clean the rifle.”

“Kukuku… I’ll wander around then.”

Yaralai returned to the tavern… is that okay?

Well, no worries. He’s an enigmatic presence anyway.

Faf, the horned girl, was already gone. She’s elusive.

Ignoring the details, I started with the exterior.

There were many underfloor storage compartments. Three, to be precise, on the sides and rear.

“That’s nice. Let’s assign them to Hagg, Yaralai, and Faf.”

“Hm. That’s appreciated, but what about you?”

“I have the rear cargo trailer and the cabin space, right?”

“Indeed. I’ll take the right, he’ll take the left, and the horned girl will take the rear.”

“Why?”

“I often sit in the passenger seat, so I’ll get off on the right. He’ll be on the opposite side.”

“Makes sense.”

The cabin door is on the left, so Faf on the left would be better, but Hagg would oppose that. Despite appearing in sync, why are they so antagonistic?

Hagg quickly shoved his bag into his space. He adapts fast.

Now, let’s check the cabin, the heart of the camper van.

Given that this camper van is probably American-made, it’s quite large. Maybe around the size of a 3-ton truck?

The living area is spacious. In Japan, parking would be a problem.

The interior is luxurious. A long sofa that converts into a bed by folding the table. Hagg would sleep here. Behind the passenger seat were a toilet and shower, separate despite my expectation of them being combined. The American specs mean Hagg can barely fit into the toilet, though without armor.

The box-shaped shower and toilet faced a shorter sofa, which was also converted into a bed. Faf would likely use this.

Above both sofas were capsule hotel-like beds. Yaralai and I would use these.

Behind the driver’s seat was a small sink, a strapped-down dish cabinet, a microwave in one cupboard, and a small fridge in another.

The sink and shower room were connected by a corridor leading to the driver’s seat, with a small door and an openable glass window.

There were hidden storage spaces where I placed a carry-on bag.

I stocked the kitchen shelves with a pressure cooker, frying pan, chopsticks, cutting board, knife, takoyaki pan, two picks, and rice.

I also stashed various condiments in two medium hemp sacks. The kitchen is complete.

The container’s empty space increased, giving peace of mind.

A monitor was on the ceiling of the central corridor, but with no TV signal, it was useless. However, it had audio-video input, so I could buy a DVD player at the SHOP.

Not a priority, though.

There were many outlets, allowing the use of digital devices like laptops. Fortunately, the outlets were Japanese-compatible.

I charged various devices: a laptop, a smartphone, and a mobile battery. I hope the batteries aren’t dead.

I tossed a manga weekly onto the bed.

I want to read more…

-Your approval has been granted. SHOP items have increased-

… Huh?

Suddenly, a familiar approval message echoed in my head.

What does this mean?

I checked the SHOP list, but nothing seemed different. After some thought, I selected -Weekly Manga Attack = 255 yen- and a sub-list opened, showing past issues up to five future ones.

“What? Huh?”

“What’s wrong?”

Hagg looked up from opening and closing the laptop.

“Oh, it’s just more products. Nothing important.”

“I see.”

With that, Hagg returned to his world. He’s quite something.

Looking at the list again, it seemed all issues since the first could now be bought. Crazy. But the price was uniformly 255 yen.

I’ll read more before bed.

Having a new enjoyment, I was quite satisfied.
