Kurapika's POV
Evening was approaching. The weather was overcast with a slight wind. Kurapika had flown into Yorkshin about twenty minutes ago, and two minutes ago he had arranged with Risotto to meet him in the central park.
Dressed in his usual clothes of his tribe he walked leisurely through the city every now and then immersed in his thoughts.
'Not particularly pleasant weather today. I risk getting caught in the rain before I reach the meeting place.' - He thought, looking at the clouds that were getting darker and darker. - 'There's still an atmosphere to it though.'
'Still, I have a hard time understanding Risotto. He dumped so much information on me that I didn't realise it all at once. He's already got some kind of team they're going to use against the Spiders. Honestly, it's like some kind of madness. Does he really have the strength to go up against such serious opponents? And what kind of team does he have? His acquaintances? Are they really strong enough for something like this too?'
Kurapika continued to leisurely head towards the central park, gradually getting closer and closer.
'It's also amazing that he was hired to guard the Auction. When did he have the reputation to be approached by such people? However, I think I'll be able to learn all that from him when we meet and talk.'
As he walked, he noticed that he was being followed. One person who had been following him for ten minutes now.
'Who the hell is that? An enemy? Most likely. In that case, I'll catch him and interrogate him.'
Kurapika made a sudden dash and ran forwards. The pursuer headed after him.
After about twenty metres, he abruptly turned into a rather wide alleyway. The pursuer ran in after him. Kurapika stopped. He turned to face the stranger to get a good look at his appearance.
He was a man of slightly below average height, wearing a sleeveless coat with black overalls underneath. On his head was a single, sticking out tuft of bright green hair. What was remarkable was that he had no chin at all, but he had a normal build.
- Who the hell are you? - Kurapika asked the man in a threatening voice. - Have you come for my head? I won't give you that easily!
- Wait! I'm not... - Before the man could finish, Kurapika had already thrown his chain at him.
The chain was about to reach him, but suddenly some invisible force knocked it away.
'What the hell! My chain was already at its target, but something repelled it.'
Kurapika focused the aura in his eyes, and saw the outline of some long object in the man's hand.
'He's wielding some kind of invisible weapon that can't be seen properly without focusing the aura in his eyes. We must be careful with him.'
- Fuck you... - Kurapika muttered to himself.
He was about to take a step forward, but at that moment the man made a slight movement with the hand in which he held his invisible weapon. After a couple of moments, Kurapika felt something hurt him in his right leg. Looking over, he found a small wound just below his knee.
'What the fuck!!! When did he have time? Was that slight movement really his attack? I didn't notice it at all, even though I used Gyou. His speed is really amazing.'
- Well, hang in there! - Said Kurapika then made a sharp dash towards the man.
He had already sent his chain towards the man, and the man in turn took a swing, when suddenly there was a loud voice behind Kurapika.
- Stop it both of you! - Shouted the man behind Kurapika, causing both him and his opponent to stop abruptly.
Kurapika turned around and saw a man of medium height, slim build, and short blond hair a few metres away from him. He was wearing a dark suit with a spider web motif. He was looking at both of them and smoking a cigarette.
- B-brother?! - Kurapiki's rival exclaimed.
The man in the suit headed in their direction. Kurapika assumed a fighting stance. The man was approaching, but Kurapika didn't want to attack first, he wanted to watch his actions.
- Just try anything and I won't be responsible for myself. - Kurapika said to the man in a threatening voice. But the man looked at him silently and continued walking.
Kurapika's tension was growing, and he could barely restrain himself from attacking first, but he still held back.
Three metres, two metres. The man came close. But after a second, he just walked past him and headed towards the man Kurapika was fighting.
'What? He's not going to attack?'
The man in the suit walked over to Kurapika's recent opponent, took a puff, and gave him a backhand. Kurapika opened his mouth slightly in surprise.
- What the fuck are you doing Pesci?! - The man started shouting at the man called Pesci, -Your job was to make sure he got there safely, and you started a fucking fight with him!
- I'm sorry, brother Prosciutto! - Pesci began to apologise with tears in his eyes. - He took me for an enemy and attacked me, but I was just defending myself. I'm sorry, bro!
Prosciutto took a deep breath.
- Eh Peshi... - He said, after which he cast his gaze at Kurapika.
'What the hell is going on? So they're not really my enemies?'
- Forgive my comrade,' He turned to Kurapika, 'He had no malicious intent, we just misunderstood each other.
- So you are not my enemies? - Said Kurapika and got out of his fighting stance. - But what do you want from me? You said you wanted to make sure I was safe, but why? Honestly, I don't understand.
- We'll explain on the way, but now it's time to go.
- Where to and why? - Kurapika asked in bewilderment.
- You have a meeting with Risotto, don't you? We'll see you off.
- Risotto?! Risotto Nero?! - Kurapika exclaimed in surprise, 'Do you know him?
Prosutto only made a gesture with his head to indicate that Kurapika should follow him, which he did.
They walked in silence for almost two minutes, after which Kurapika spoke.
- This is... I'm sorry for attacking you Pesci. - Said Kurapika.
- That's all right. It's my own fault for acting like a stalker.
- Hey, how do you know Risotto? Are you the team he recruited to fight against the Spiders?
- You could say that, - Prosciutto answered him, - He will tell you everything, we are almost there.
A moment later they came to the central park. Twenty metres away from him Kurapika saw a two-metre tall figure standing near a lantern. It wasn't hard to guess that it was Risotto.
- Hi Risotto,' Kurapika greeted him as he approached him, 'It's been a long time.
- Hello to you, too. I see you met some of my friends.
- Yeah, they seem like nice guys. So, what about your spider-fighting proposal? I thought you said you'd tell me more about it when we met.
Suddenly it was thundering and raining.
- Let's talk about it at my flat. I live over there, - Risotto pointed to a house that was right in front of the park.
- Come on, it's not very nice to talk in the rain. - Said Kurapika after which they walked towards the house.
Together they entered the house, went up to the floor where Risotto lived and entered his flat.
- Wow! - Kurapika was a little surprised, - You have a pretty nice place.
They sat down together at the table. Risotto made them both some tea and sandwiches.
- By the way, why did you send your friends to watch me?
- That's the situation right now. We could be attacked at any moment, including you. So I thought I'd be on the safe side and sent my mates to make sure you got to the rendezvous point safely.
- Well, let's get to the point. Are you really going to fight against the Spiders?
Risotto nodded.
- But why? What happened that made you fight them?
- We don't know.
Kurapika fell into a slight stupor at those words.
- All we know is that their boss needs us for something. And from what we understand, even his subordinates don't know why he needs us.
- That's odd. What do you plan to do?
- Simple. If they come at us again, they die. We know what we're capable of, and if we push back on what we've learnt about them, we have a good chance. However, I am concerned about their boss. Particularly because he wants our heads, and we have no idea why.
Kurapika was silent for a few seconds. Like Risotto, he thought this was all very strange.
- I think you also mentioned the Auction.
- You're right. You see, the last time we had a run-in with them was about two months ago. They've been quiet ever since. A couple of days ago, the mob guy who hired us to guard the Auction came to see us. He was worried that the Spiders probably wouldn't miss a chance like this and decide to rob them. And that's when it all became clear. We realised that they were specifically waiting for this Auction to kill us and carry out the robbery.
- That makes sense. They want to kill two birds with one stone.
- But like I said before, we know what we're capable of, and we're not gonna let them get away with it. And with your help, our chances are only going to increase. So, are you willing to join us?
Kurapika thought for a moment.
'Hmm, I don't see anything wrong with that in principle. I trust Risotto. In the time I've known him, I've come to realise that he's not a bad person.'
- I agree. - He said, 'Such an alliance would be good for all of us.
- That's fine. In that case, tomorrow we'll have a little feast in your honour. You'll meet the rest of our team and they'll meet you.
- I can't wait,' said Kurapika with a kind smile on his face, 'But wait. I have to live somewhere, and I haven't found a place to live yet.
- Don't worry about that, you'll live with me.
- You?! - Kurapika was surprised and blushed a little.
- Yes, with me. We all need to stick together. It's too dangerous to live far away from each other now, as enemies can appear at any time. And besides, you're a member of our team now, and everyone else lives in twos.
- Okay,' Kurapika said in a slightly embarrassed voice.
- It's getting dark by the way. If you're not going to sleep yet, you can get acquainted with the flat.
Kurapika began to familiarise himself with his new place. He walked around the flat, assessing the interior, exploring the rooms.
'Wow... I didn't expect to have to live with a pretty grown up guy in the same flat. I also have to meet his friends tomorrow. I'm sure they're great guys.'
Kurapika took a shower and went to bed.
