Just a moment ago, Risotto, Melone, Giaccio and Illuso came out of the small colourful birdhouse tower that is the starting point for all the players that have entered the game. They stood near this tower and watched the beautiful and vast green steppe in front of them.
- Wow... - Melone said with admiration, - It's beautiful.
- Well, yes, - Giaccio agreed with him, - I'm in a better mood.
- Well, beauty is beauty, but what are the rules of the game? - Illuso asked, 'Let's go over what the girl told us again.
- Let's go over what the girl told us, - Risotto agreed, - Here's what we know: the aim of the game is to collect 100 cards, which will be stored in a special book that we can call up at any time. These cards will be transformed into various items we find. I think there was something else in there, but I don't think it's particularly important.
- Is there any point in collecting these cards at all? - Gyaccio asked.
- I doubt it. We're here for the arrow, not for these maps and getting through the game. However, I don't think we should ignore these cards completely. There might be something useful among them. In the meantime, we should head to some town and find out more information.
- That's true in principle, too. But now there's another question. Where do we actually go? Where is this town? It's all steppe.
- Then we'll go in a random direction. We don't have much of a choice, but we'll end up somewhere sooner or later.
Thinking this was the most sensible solution, they all agreed and decided to go north.
They had barely walked a hundred metres when suddenly Risotto felt something.
'What is that feeling? Danger? No, it's something a little different. It's... Right, we're being followed.'
- Do you feel it too? - He asked the others.
- Yes,' Gyaccio replied, 'We are definitely being followed.
At the same moment some guy who looked like a Rastaman landed from the sky like a meteorite right in front of them.
- This is... The plains near the starting point... - He spoke, - So... This is your first entry into the game?
Risotto and everyone else looked at him like he was some kind of freak, who meanwhile pulled out a book to hold the cards.
- Hey, who the hell are you anyway? - Giaccio turned to the Rastaman.
- Looks like you really are new. You didn't take out your books when I took out mine, so you're complete nerds.
Saying something like that made Gyacho a little angry.
- Did you just say that or did you just say that?
But he didn't even pay attention to his words and started looking through his book.
- I think he's plotting something against us, - Giaccio turned to the others, - Shall we smack him in the mouth?
'Hmm, looks like he's really up to something. He's probably some kind of player who's sneaking up on newcomers and robbing them. He's going through something in his book... We have to stop him.'
- Your hand and your ear. - Risotto turned to the Rastaman.
- What? What do you mean? - The Rastaman asked with incomprehension.
The Rastaman was so engrossed in his book that he didn't notice that a couple of knives had formed from the ground near him. The first knife severed half of his right ear, and the second cut through the palm of his right hand.
Before he realised it, Illuso jumped up, broke his left arm, grabbed him by the throat and lifted him into the air.
- You've got the wrong people, my friend,' Illuso said a little gloatingly, 'I should kill you properly, but I'm not in the mood for killing today. I'll give you a chance,' He threw him to the ground and kicked him in the face, 'Tell me, where's the nearest town around here?
- B-nearest towns are Antokiba in the north and Dorias in the south. Please let me go.
- Is there nothing else we need to know? - He turned to Risotto.
- I don't think so.
Illuso took his foot off the Rastaman's face and said to him:
- All right, you can go on your way. But don't let our eyes see you again.
Rastaman quickly got to his feet, took out his book and used one of the cards and flew away as fast as he came.
- Well, did you see him?' Illuso said to the others with a smug smile, 'I was still holding back. I'm usually a little more harsh in my interrogation techniques.
- You're an idiot, Illuso. - Melone rebuked him.
- What?
- Because... Why the fuck did you let him go? He had the cards! We could have robbed him, made him give us the cards! And you let him go, you good fucking man.
- All right, that's enough! - I told you before, we don't really care about the maps. We know where the nearest town is, and that's all that matters. He said that Antokiba was to the north, and we were heading north, so that's where we're going.
They agreed with Risotto and continued northwards.
For almost two hours they had been walking slowly towards Antokiba. Along the way they had not encountered another human being. All they could see was a vast green steppe, with occasional small pools of water and a few trees. However, the more they moved forward, the more vegetation could be seen. For example, on their right, two kilometres away, they could see a small forest.
- Shit, where is this town? I'm tired of walking, - Giaccio complained, - I want to see what kind of city it is, its architecture, its peculiarities and everything else.
- It's close, I can feel it. - Risotto answered him.
And indeed, after a few minutes of walking, the city appeared in the distance. After a few more minutes they finally entered the city and started walking through its streets.
The architecture of the city was similar to old European cities. Most of all it looked like the German city of Rothenburg.
- Look at that! Quite a beautiful city! - Melone marvelled, - Agreed Giaccio?
- I agree, finally a city with proper architecture. Yorkshin is a miscarriage of architecture compared to this.
- Oh come on, Yorkshin's not bad either. It's got its perks, too.
- Like what?
- Like... Let's say... It's got... Oh, right, it's got internet access, which I'm pretty sure it probably doesn't.
- Shit, that's a tough call... By the way, we're in the city, what's next?
- Let's take a look around the city,' said Risotto, 'Maybe we'll find something interesting. Then we'll go to a cafe or a bar and think about it.
During the walk through the city the most interesting thing they found was a big board with announcements, on which there were various tasks, and the second board, on which there was a schedule of various tournaments.
- Would you like to participate in a tournament? - Illuso asked the others.
- What's there? - Melone asked.
Risotto walked closer to the schedule board.
'So, apparently there's one tournament here every month on the fifteenth of the month. The prize is a certain game card from the number slots. The closest tournament is on the fifteenth of September, and right now... It's like the eleventh now.'
- Are these tournaments like this? - Giaccio looked at the schedule, 'Rock-paper-scissors, snowballs, tug-of-war... What the hell is this? This is a kindergarten, not a tournament! I thought there would be some fights, duels and all that, and here it is... Ugh!
- I agree with Gyaccio,' Illuso said, 'It's too boring, even though you can easily win a card.
- Come on, let's get out of here,' said Risotto, 'Let's see some more of the city, and then we can go to a café and eat.
After a few minutes of walking they came to the town square, where, near a small fountain, a small group of people had gathered. Risotto saw that among those people were Gon and Killua.
'Gee, there are coincidences in life. What are they doing here? Are they going to pass the game?'
Killua noticed Risotto and the others. He smiled and nudged Gon in the side, then he noticed them too.
- Wow, what a meeting! - Gon exclaimed, 'What are you doing here? Are you trying to play a game?
- Not exactly. We have a different purpose, but you can't know that. What about you?
- Well, we're just... We have a slightly different goal. By the way, who's that with you?
- My friends.
- Wow, more friends! I've never seen these before. You have a lot of friends.
Suddenly Gyaccio smiled a little and spoke:
- Are you not too young to play such a game? There is no telling what dangers can befall such young boys.
- Don't be conceited, uncle,' Killua answered him, 'We are not as simple as you think.
- Who's the uncle? Am I the uncle?!
- Who else? Not me.
- I'm you.
Before Giaccio could get really angry, a long, thin man with short blond hair sticking up walked up to them. He wore glasses and a long white coat.
- I see you two know each other,' he said, 'In that case, I'll probably make you an offer too.
- What will you offer? - Risotto asked.
- The thing is, we've formed a map collecting alliance. This alliance is designed to facilitate the collection of maps to make the game easier....
- I refuse. - Risotto cut him off abruptly.
- But you're not even listening!
- We're not interested in collecting maps, we have a different goal in mind. And we're certainly not going to join any alliances. So excuse us and farewell.
Risotto and the others turned around and walked away quickly, giving Gon and Killua no chance to catch up with them.
- What a bloke,' said Giaccio, 'You didn't like that bespectacled man either?
- Yes, he's a bit cloudy. - Melone agreed with him.
- That's right, it's better to stay away from him. Those bespectacled guys are always trouble.
The others looked at him a little askew, but didn't say anything and walked on in silence.
