Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Cell Enhancement
Kaiton's idea could only be described as whimsical. Drawing upon the knowledge he had acquired in his previous life, Kaiton suddenly wondered if there could be a form of medical ninjutsu capable of reversing chakra into the energy needed by cells, thereby strengthening them through a process akin to "feeding" cells.
This train of thought wasn't baseless. After all, chakra itself originates from body energy, which is, in turn, produced by cells. If chakra is essentially derived from the body, then it stands to reason that it could also be absorbed back into the body after being appropriately transformed—similar to how Healing Jutsu works by creating chakra with special restorative properties.
If medical chakra can regulate cell division, there is no reason it couldn't also strengthen cells.
Excited by his idea, Kaiton headed to Tenzou's house. Upon entering the living room, he saw Tenzou's younger brother, Senju Tobirama, leisurely sipping tea with Uzumaki Hinatabi. When Tobirama noticed Kaiton, he remarked that he hadn't seen Tenzou for some time before inquiring about Kaiton's purpose for visiting.
When Kaiton shared his idea, Tobirama's eyes lit up.
Kaiton's concept was bold and innovative. Chakra, since its creation, had always been used for combat purposes—even medical ninjutsu existed primarily to heal injuries so that the injured could return to battle. Nobody had ever considered using chakra to enhance the human body itself.
This enhancement would not resemble the temporary stimulation of the body's capabilities as seen in the techniques of the Cloud Shinobi. Instead, it would be a gentle, nurturing process, allowing the body to grow stronger and achieve permanent improvement.
The implications were profound. If such a technique could be realized, it would not only extend the lifespan of a ninja but could also help maintain peak combat efficiency for decades. In old age, a ninja might retain a level of power and resilience previously unimaginable.
What caught Tobirama's attention most, however, was the possibility that this idea might heal his elder brother, Tenzou.
The thought of curing Tenzou's injuries filled Tobirama with determination. His elder brother, renowned as the "God of Shinobi," symbolized unmatched strength. As long as Tenzou remained healthy, peace in the ninja world would persist, for no village would dare provoke the might of someone who could single-handedly suppress all opposition.
Tobirama's expression turned solemn. He gripped Kaiton's shoulders firmly, his tone uncharacteristically serious.
"Kaiton, your idea is highly feasible. I will discuss it with my brother and begin research into this new form of ninjutsu. However, it may take some time before we see results."
Before Kaiton could celebrate, Tobirama quickly added, "But you must prepare yourself."
Hearing this, Kaiton realized his upcoming mission: improving his chakra control.
Chakra control is a fundamental measure of a ninja's proficiency in ninjutsu. A technique's effectiveness depends on two factors:
1. Shape Transformation: This allows the user to manipulate chakra to form specific shapes, such as a fireball or a wall of earth.
2. Nature Transformation: This adds elemental properties to chakra, such as fire, water, or lightning, making it far more versatile and destructive.
Both require precise control over chakra. Without sufficient mastery, even a properly executed technique could fail embarrassingly—for example, an earth wall might end up as nothing more than a small mound.
Kaiton grimaced as he recalled his struggles during training. His failed attempts at the Earth Formation Wall were not due to insufficient chakra, as he had initially believed, but rather due to poor chakra control.
Medical ninjutsu, as Tobirama explained, required an even higher level of chakra control. A medical ninja must not only manipulate chakra's nature but also guide its flow precisely within a wound—a skill akin to multitasking on an advanced level.
Tobirama shared several methods to improve chakra control before leaving in a hurry, brimming with ideas. Kaiton, meanwhile, decided to return home but was interrupted by Shinzuru, who dragged him to her room, insisting he help review her textbooks.
Despite his reluctance, Kaiton complied. After they finished, Shinzuru tasked him with preparing dinner. It wasn't until evening that Kaiton finally found himself free.
Walking down the street, he decided to take the rare opportunity to relax. It was the last day of the month—the release day of his favorite special photo issue. Kaiton looked around furtively before using the Transformation Technique to disguise himself as Akirai, his alter ego, and walked confidently toward the bookstore.
The shopkeeper greeted him warmly. "Ah, Akirai! Right on time! Here for your usual?"
Kaiton nodded, his voice calm. "Yes, and give me an extra copy for a friend." He handed over 1,000 ryō.
The shopkeeper chuckled knowingly. "Understood, just a moment!"
Kaiton waited patiently, silently congratulating himself on his generosity. He thought of his good friend Jiraiya, who, despite his modest lifestyle, always prioritized expanding his "spiritual horizons." Kaiton resolved to share any treasures he came across with his friends.
However, his thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Boss, give me a special issue of the month!"
Kaiton froze. He turned around slowly and saw someone who looked exactly like himself, staring back in shock.
The imposter stammered, "Uncle Akirai! What are you doing here?"
Kaiton quickly composed himself. "Ah, it's you, Kaiton... Wait, did you just call me uncle?"
The fake Kaiton's face turned pale, and he began to back away nervously.
Before Kaiton could confront him, the shopkeeper returned and handed him two books, their flashy covers briefly visible to the imposter.
The imposter gasped. "Uncle... do you read these too?"
Kaiton froze, then forced a laugh. "Ah, well... You know me so well, son. You've saved me the trouble of buying them myself. Good boy."
The imposter hesitated before mumbling, "As long as you're happy, Dad," and fled in embarrassment.
Kaiton watched him retreat, his eyes narrowing.
"Looks like I need to teach someone a lesson," he muttered.
For now, though, he tucked the books under his arm and headed home, already plotting his next training session and preparing to improve his chakra control.
He was determined—both to strengthen himself and to make his vision of a revolutionary ninjutsu a reality.
