Last True Remnant of Old Valyria

Chapter 59: The Fight begins [the Cannibal Vs. Caraxes and Meleys]

Third person POV

Daeranyx, his gaze unwavering, observed the creature's every move. "It's assessing the situation," he noted, a hint of fascination in his voice. "An intelligent creature, indeed. But…"

He didn't need to finish his sentence. The Cannibal, driven by its insatiable hunger, lunged for the eggs, its jaws snapping shut. But instead of the satisfying crunch of eggshell, it met an invisible wall, a shimmering barrier that rippled under its impact. The Cannibal roared in frustration, its claws raking against the unyielding surface, its eyes burning with rage.

Although Rhaenys and Daemon may not have noticed, but when the magical barrier manifested, Daeranyx was shocked. The reason for his shock was that the magical barrier was being formed with the assistance of magic from Daeranyx himself, rather than from the atmosphere. The magic barrier utilized amounted to 20% of his full reserve, which is not a significant amount if Daeranyx's reserve were the size of an ordinary wizard's; however, that is not the case here. His reserve is larger than that of most wizards, and twenty percent of it is still a quantity. This demonstrates the formidable magical power possessed by the dragons in this world. Fortunately for him, he only needs to maintain that barrier twice, as it has fulfilled its purpose of inciting further anger in the Cannibal.

A small smile touched Rhaenys' lips. "The barrier holds," she said, relief evident in her voice. However, upon closer inspection, there was also a hint of fascination on her face as she had just witnessed the manifestation of a blue barrier that prevented the Dragon from achieving what its desires. One does not often encounter scenes like this in their world, as even a Targaryen's tamed dragon, once it has determined its desire, will not cease until it achieves what it seeks.

Daemon, his grin widening, barked out a command. "Now for the next act. Caraxes!" Caraxes, who present in the cave located just behind where we are hiding, reared his head upon hearing the command of his rider. Daemon swiftly made his way to his mount and climbed atop the saddle with a grace that only experienced dragon riders could achieve.

With a deafening roar that echoed across the island mirroring the excitement his rider for what is to come, Caraxes took to the sky, a crimson streak against the grey clouds. He circled above the Cannibal, spewing jets of fire into the air, a blatant challenge to the larger dragon's dominance.

Daeranyx observed the Cannibal, who was becoming enraged when challenged in its own territory. A smirk formed on his face as he recognized that, regardless of how cunning or intelligent the Dragon might be, it remained a proud creature. When the Cannibal noticed the Dragon half his age, if rumours are to believe of Cannibal's age, daring to confront it on its ground, it was destined to wound the pride of an aged Dragon and make it more enraged. Coupled with its fury at being denied food that lay right before its eyes, the situation was bound to escalate.

The Cannibal, its rage amplified by the barrier, the taunts, and the challenge to its authority, thrashed against the invisible wall with renewed fury. Then, with a deafening crack that split the air, the barrier shattered, its fragments dissolving into motes of shimmering light.

Daemon, drawing Dark Sister atop the saddle, its blade gleaming in the sunlight, roared, "Now! To battle!"

The Cannibal, its eyes ablaze with fury, charged at Caraxes, jaws agape and claws extended. Meleys, who was also present nearby, emitted a growl of impatience, prompting Rhaenys to gaze at her mount in surprise. She did not think her girl also share the same battle-hungry demeanor as Caraxes. However, Meleys' behavior might stem from past encounters where the Cannibal had fled, and now she seeks to prevent its escape once more. Yet, the time to engage in battle for them has not arrived, as Lord Drakonar has indicated that Caraxes and Daemon must provoke the Cannibal sufficiently for its rage to overpower cunning possessed by the Dragon. If she is to be candid, she believes that his plan has a viable chance of success, and Lord Drakonar has the optimal duo for the task of inciting anger, whether it be in a Dragon or men. She is quite certain that Caraxes and Daemon will excel in their role of infuriating the Cannibal.

The skies above Dragonstone shimmered in the bright midday sun, the ocean below glinting like a sea of molten silver. The warmth of the day did nothing to ease the tension in the air, as the storm brewing was not of nature's making. Daemon Targaryen sat confidently astride Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm's long, serpentine body undulating mid-air, its crimson scales dazzling against the stark blue of the sky.Just behind both of them, a large shadow was attempting to close the distance.

The Cannibal was a shadow against the sky—black as night, massive, and menacing. Its growl carried on the wind like the rumble of a far-off thunderstorm. Daeranyx watched with Rhaenys by his side, a faint smirk playing across his lips.

"Let the fun begin," he murmured to himself, his silver hair fluttering in the wind. In one hand, he absently twirled a wand made of ebony and dragonbone, its tip glimmering faintly. Although he had previously decided not to reveal his wand in front of the Targaryens and Velaryons, as he was unable to cast certain spells without it in the past, he can now execute magic without the need for a wand.

In the Sky Caraxes twisted in the air, emitting a guttural roar of challenge. The Cannibal, already enraged by the magical barrier guarding the dragon eggs, hurtled toward him. The elder dragon was faster than his size suggested, wings slicing through the air with terrifying precision. Daemon leaned low against Caraxes's neck, urging his dragon forward. A smile of complete fulfillment and excitement could be seen on his face

"Come on, you ancient bastard," Daemon taunted, his grin wild. "Show me what you've got!" The only response he received was a roar of fury from Cannibal.

As Caraxes spiraled through the air, snapping at the Cannibal's wings and neck, the older dragon's rage became palpable. But every swipe of Caraxes's talons missed by a hair's breadth, and every bellow of fury echoed like an omen of death. The Cannibal's frustration mounted, its jaws snapping with enough force to shear through stone.

Down below, Daeranyx observed with sharp eyes, his senses attuned to every movement. The Cannibal's fury was reaching a crescendo, but he wanted more. With a flick of his wand, he whispered an incantation: "Rictusempra" The tickling charm.

A thin, invisible wave of magic pulsed through the air, brushing against the Cannibal's scales. The reaction was immediate. The black beast threw its head back and roared with a ferocity that made the very walls of Dragonstone tremble. Magic did not harm dragons physically, but it crawled beneath their skin, a violation of their primal nature. The Cannibal's eyes glowed like poisonous green, and its focus shifted from Caraxes to source of the magic.

"Perfect," Daeranyx said softly, leaning against stone beside him.

However, Daemon and Caraxes were quick to capitalize on the distraction. Caraxes twisted away from the jaws of Cannibal, his tail lashing through the air like a whip. The Blood Wyrm was agile, but he couldn't fully avoid the Cannibal's claws. A swipe caught his flank, tearing through scales and leaving deep gashes. Caraxes screamed in pain, the sound reverberating across the sky.

Daemon held on tightly, his eyes blazing with adrenaline. "You'll have to do better than that, you ancient lizard!" he shouted, though his grip on the saddle tightened.

The Cannibal, now fully consumed by rage, ignored everything else—the landscape below, the keep in the distance, even the eggs it had coveted so fiercely. All that mattered was destroying the young dragon who dared challenge him.

Observing the state of Cannibal pursuing Caraxes with great intensity, Rhaenys realized it was time for her and Meleys to take to sky. She looked towards Lord Drakonar, whose complete attention was fixated on events unfolding above. Rhaenys wished to inquire how he planned to get back to the keep, as remaining exposed in open while three dragons fought overhead seemed perilous. However, she could not ignore the potency of Lord Drakonar magic; thus, who could say what tricks he might have up his sleeve that could facilitate a swift return safety? Ultimately, she placed her trust in her daughter's future husband's abilities and concentrated on the pressing situation.

The Red Queen and Rhaneys swifty ascended to the sky without being noticed from two Dragon's who is busy among fighting each other. Caraxes has primarily depended on unleashing Dragonfire Cannibal to deter him from pursuit. However, Cannibal remains undeterred, as the Dragon relentlessly pursues Caraxes with madness evident in its green eyes. If Caraxes is captured by Cannibal Daeranyx think,it is certain that the wild dragon will tear apart the younger dragon before ultimately finishing him off.

The Red Queen descended from the clouds like a flame-wreathed specter. Rhaenys Velaryon, her dark black hair flowing behind her, shouted "Dracarys" command. Meleys opened her jaws, and a stream of fire erupted, blinding in its intensity. The flames licked at the Cannibal's side, forcing the great black dragon to wheel around in confusion.

From his perch, Daeranyx smiled. "I should take my seat; there is no way I am watching this iconic fight from here," he murmured before apparating on Windwyrm Tower, directly into the maw of the dragon, which was roaring in defiance as Daerayx watched the two dragons—Meleys and Caraxes—begin working in tandem. It was an aerial dance of fire and fury, with the Cannibal at the center of it all.

And from here he could see that Meleys presence in the fight has brought Cannibal out of its madly enraged state. Daeranyx couldn't let Cannibal flee, so he did what he could at this moment. With a flick of his wand, he sent "Stupefy" [the Stunning Spell] directly at the Cannibal's wing, causing no harm but eliciting another ear-splitting roar of indignation. The beast thrashed wildly at its inability to harm the caster of magic, nearly clipping Caraxes with its tail in its blind rage.

The Cannibal's focus was now divided, its movements increasingly erratic as it tried to fend off both Caraxes and Meleys. Fire lit up the skies as the dragons roared and struck, their claws and teeth flashing like blades in the dim light.

For Daeranyx, it was a perfect show—a test of strength, strategy, and the raw, unyielding power of dragons.
