chapter 13
13 – Becoming an Adventurer
After returning to Kubel, we all had a quick meal at a restaurant together at the young man’s suggestion.
“Aha, you were an herbalist. “I’m glad I received the request to subdue the King Blue Slime at the right time.”
The young man who saved us from a group of blue slimes said with a smile.
The young man’s name is Oren.
He lives as an adventurer and came to fulfill a request to subjugate King Blue Slime and discovered us by chance.
For someone like me who aims to become an adventurer, he seemed very cool and amazing.
“Thanks to you, I survived. What would have happened if it weren’t for Mr. Oren…….”
“I did the obvious thing.”
Oren scratched the back of his head with a slightly embarrassed expression at my repeated thanks.
But I was sincere.
The sight of him wiping out a group of slimes with a single blow was worthy of being called a hero.
“Actually, I also aim to become an adventurer. “I want to become a great adventurer like Mr. Oren.”
“Ahahahaha…… “You praise me so much.”
“No, really. “At least to me, he is a hero who saved my life.”
“I’m just an ordinary bronze adventurer passing by.”
Bronze?
The adventurer ranks in this world are divided that way.
Anyway, the guy who looked so strong is only bronze.
Actually, bronze is a very high grade.
No, judging from the way he said it, it wasn’t like that.
“And I am even more grateful.”
Oren looked at me and suddenly said.
“Yes? What is that…….”
“When you work as a bronze adventurer, the lowest level, it is not easy to receive such sincere gratitude.”
“Is that so?”
“Because the world’s attention and fame is focused on higher-level adventurers. “Bronze adventurers like us are like cleaners who handle miscellaneous requests that they don’t do.”
Oren smiled bitterly.
A cleaner who handles miscellaneous requests.
When he, who seemed like a hero who fell from the sky, said those words, I felt cognitive dissonance.
“At least to me, he is the greatest hero who saved my life.”
“Ahahahaha, thank you. “I feel rewarded for being an adventurer.”
Oren gave a refreshing smile that seemed genuinely happy about what I said.
The name Bronze Adventurer was meaningless, and in my eyes, he looked extremely cool.
“Oh, and next time you go to the forest, be sure to have at least one sword ready. Slime has a core in the center, so anyone can easily defeat it by cutting it precisely in the center with a sharp sword.”
This was a monster that anyone could easily defeat if they had a sword?
I saw a flash of light while surrounded by those monsters.
Ha, I feel strange.
“Yunoa- Yunoa-“
Meruru, who was sitting next to me and eating food in silence, tapped my shoulder.
“What’s wrong?”
“The quantity is not enough.”
Meruru said, tapping her empty plate with her fork.
Next to her, there were five plates piled up that she had already finished eating.
Ha, yes.
Since you went through something like that because of me, you should feed me whatever you want for today.
If you dispose of the medicinal herbs collected today, you will have enough money…….
“Ah.”
I was about to call the waiter at the restaurant to take my order, but a thought crossed my mind and I stopped.
“aaat-!”
Then he grabbed his head and screamed.
I forgot to collect Freya’s blessing.
* * *
『Yunoa forgot Freya’s blessing and the incident that occurred did not leave her mind.
Rather than being thankful that she was lucky enough to save her life, he was more sorry about missing out on making money.』
After breaking up with Oren at the restaurant, the narration pricked my heart.
A topic that was kept quiet during times of crisis.
Honestly, there is nothing we can do.
15 Gold is a lot of money to make even if you go digging for medicinal herbs all week.
If it’s not a pity, that’s a saint.
『The group of slimes that almost took Yunoa’s life could actually be defeated by anyone with a well-forged sword.
He, who was put in danger of his life by such a monster, was not even aware of the embarrassment and said that his goal was to become an adventurer.』
The narration’s harsh words strike one more time.
It hurts a little this time.
The swordsmanship of the young man named Oren that I saw right in front of me seemed truly amazing to me, who knew nothing about it.
But he who looks so strong is a bronze adventurer.
He lost confidence in whether someone like me could really become an adventurer.
Still, I couldn’t give up my dream of becoming an adventurer.
The appearance of Oren, who fought brilliantly against dozens of slimes and rescued us.
The refreshing look on his face as he felt truly rewarded after receiving my thank you.
After seeing that, I also wanted to help someone as an adventurer and feel the reward.
I want to feel the same emotions that Oren felt.
I want to be in a position to help, rather than receiving help.
I have always been like that.
Even before I came to this world and before I tried anything, I was scared and couldn’t do anything.
Because I was afraid to do anything, I spent my time making excuses for myself in the safety and comfort of my home.
But now it is different.
I saved all the money to become an adventurer.
Anyway, we had collected all the medicinal herbs in a safe nearby area, so there was no need to delay further.
Okay, I decided.
As of today, Yunoa & Meruru Herb Shop is closed.
I decided today to go to the guild to become an adventurer.
* * *
I am not used to the sword on my waist, so it bothers me when I walk.
Meruru, wearing the new robe she had just purchased, was bouncing happily next to me.
“Is this how much money is left? ….”
Before going to the guild, I went to weapon stores, general stores, and armor stores and purchased everything I needed.
The place where the most money was spent was on weapons.
Since my skills were lacking, I thought it would be better if I used a good sword.
So, I looked at the swords on display at the weapon shop one by one and chose one that fit well in my hand and was not too heavy.
The armor was chosen to be as easy to move as possible rather than defensive.
There was also enchanted armor that could protect the entire body, but the price was exorbitant, so I just looked at it.
I bought some healing potions at the general store, just in case, and bought Meruru a new robe.
Qubel Adventurer Guild.
A white brick building standing tall in the middle of Kubel’s busiest main street.
“It finally came… ….”
At her doorstep, I take a deep breath and stroke Meruru’s head about three times, trying to calm her mind.
When I opened the door and went inside, the scenery of the adventurer’s guild that I had only imagined unfolded in reality.
A variety of adventurers choosing requests with serious faces in front of a large bulletin board.
The counter and pretty receptionist who handle various tasks of the guild…… Huh?
Among the guild counter receptionists, I saw someone who looked familiar.
A beautiful woman with short cherry-colored hair.
Although she somehow gives off a sacred and warm aura, she somehow doesn’t seem to be wearing her underwear…….
“Tina?”
“Oh? Yunoa! “Are you Yunoa?”
When I got closer and called her name, Tina greeted me with her happy face.
She said she was looking for a job, but I never thought she would be a guild receptionist.
She cut her long hair into a bob.
She must have worn her underwear since she is no longer a saint.
“Why did you come to the guild? How has she been?”
“I want to register as an adventurer.”
She was happy to see me and had a lot to say, but she only got to the point.
Tina is also at work, so she had better not engage in unnecessary small talk.
“Then please read this document and sign here and here with this pen.”
Tina skillfully took out the adventurer registration form from under her counter and held it out along with her pen.
The adventurer’s duties and precautions were written so clearly in the document that it was difficult to read.
This type of document has been seen before in the world.
It’s like insurance terms and conditions or personal information protection terms and conditions.
The content is important, but it is extremely difficult to read, so you end up only skimming and signing.
Once you sign something like this, the really important parts are explained verbally.
“I’ve signed everything here.”
“Yes, I received it well. Yunoa, let me ask you a few questions.”
Tina said, taking the signed document and putting it somewhere under her counter without even looking at it.
“Have you ever received education at a training institution such as a knight training center, academy, swordsmanship school, or magic college?”
“No.”
“Is there a gold rank or higher adventurer in your family, or a founder of a swordsmanship school or magic school recognized by the kingdom?”
There is no way something like that exists.
“No.”
“Do you have any war experience, mercenary experience, or experience winning a battle against a monster?”
“No.”
“Lastly, for reference in party recruitment and request proposals…… What class do you want to register for in the guild?”
“Inspector?”
Well, I get asked this a lot.
I felt a little self-destructive because I had no choice but to answer no to everything I asked.
I can’t help it, because it’s true.
After finishing asking questions, Tina scribbled something on her papers and then took something out from under the counter.
It was a metal badge about the size of two finger joints.
There was an unsightly bird head pattern engraved on it, making it difficult to tell whether it was a sparrow or a chicken.
“Yes, registration has been completed. Yunoa, you are Novice rank.”
No, they said bronze is the lowest rank.
That’s how I became an adventurer.
