Chapter 1
Eastern Domain.
Xuantian Sect.
An old man with long white hair wearing a black robe leaned on his cane, staring in disbelief at the weathered face reflected in the lake, and he let out an expletive,
“Holy shit!!!”
Ye Junlin never imagined that he’d just dozing off in class would end up with him reincarnating.
Looking at that wrinkled old face in the lake, Ye Junlin was trembling with rage, his eyes red as he shouted,
“Is there even a shred of justice in this world?”
While others got to reincarnate as young talents from noble families or as gorgeous figures from holy lands, he ended up as a gloomy old man?
Through his memories, he learned that this world was called the Kunlun Realm, revered by cultivators, where flying swords and moving mountains was just a cakewalk.
The original owner of this body was the peak master of Mysterious Peak, one of the six sects in the Arid Province of the Eastern Domain.
He was once highly respected in the sect, having reached the Golden Core Stage at a young age, but after suffering a sneak attack during a mission to eliminate evil cultivators, he had his Dantian destroyed, leading to the loss of his cultivation and turning him into a waste.
In the following decades, he turned into a despondent recluse on the mountain, completely detached from the world.
Seeing their once-promising peak master fall into despair, the high-ranking members of the Xuantian Sect felt a deep sense of loss, yet were helpless to intervene.
“Wait a minute, I’m just an ordinary person now, calculating based on my previous age…” Suddenly, Ye Junlin had a terrifying realization.
To put it bluntly, this body was already over a hundred years old. The only reason it had lived this long was because of the various longevity Medicinal Pills he had consumed while he was a cultivator.
But even so, according to the lifespan of an ordinary person, he was already on the brink of passing away, the kind that could kick the bucket at any moment.
“No way, I just reincarnated, and I’m already saying goodbye to this world?”
“Wait, I still have a chance; usually, game mechanics kick in at times like this!”
Drawing on years of experience with web novels, Ye Junlin’s heart gradually calmed down, as he struck the ground hard with his cane, shouting proudly into the air:
“System, your father is here; come out and greet me!”
Silence surrounded him.
“Hmm?”
“Playing hide and seek with me, huh? Hurry up, stop messing around!”
Dead silence.
“Bro system, I’m sorry; I was just joking. A little response would be nice!”
“System, dear?”
“System, lord?”
Static, like a tomb.
“Got it, not a system flow.”
Ye Junlin changed tactics, furrowing his brows as he felt around his body and only found an old ring. He hesitantly leaned in and whispered,
“Master, are you in there?”
No response from the ring.
“Old man, quit playing; I know you’re hiding in there!”
The ring: “……”
“Do I need to drop some blood for it to work?”
Ye Junlin bit his finger, dripping blood on the ring, anxiously waiting for a full ten seconds, only to find no change whatsoever.
Damn!
No golden fingers; what was the point of reincarnating?
With this frail body of his, one slip could send him to the afterlife!
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, pointing the cane at the sky and cursing,
“Heaven! I swear—%#&*%#…”
Two minutes later.
[Ding, detected that the host’s curses are too vulgar; this system can only passively activate, asking the host not to curse and to be a civilized person!]
A mechanical system prompt echoed in his ears.
Ye Junlin froze, clutching his chest, nearly having a heart attack on the spot,
“System, you’re savage; you only show up now? I was starting to think this book was going for a mundane theme!”
[Ding, very sorry, I was in a deep sleep before this; I just woke up too!]
“What the hell, this is beyond unreliable! Is this how you treat reincarnators?”
[Ding, please mind your language; this system is extremely professional!]
“Fine, let me hear how it sounds. All you systems sound like robots without a hint of emotion, so since you say you’re professional, give me a loli voice!”
[Loading new voice package…]
[Ding, loli voice modification complete; does the host find it satisfactory?]
In the next second, the system’s cold, mechanical voice transformed into a sweet, adorable tone.
“Yo, is this for real? Awesome, awesome, but don’t change it without my permission!”
[Ding, okay, to better make it up to the host, the system grants a newbie gift pack; would you like to unpack it?]
“Open it for me!”
[Ding, congratulations, host, you’ve gained a special ability: Stronger when facing stronger enemies!]
“System, get specific.”
Ye Junlin asked curiously.
[Ding, as long as the host encounters any enemy of a higher realm, you will instantly gain a cultivation level one tier above theirs! And it has no side effects!]
“No way!”
Ye Junlin startled, cautiously asking: “For real, like if I’m just an ordinary person, facing someone at the early Golden Core Stage, I’ll be at the mid Golden Core Stage? If facing someone at the late Tribulation Stage, then I’ll be at the peak Tribulation Stage? What if I face the Heaven…?”
[Ding, this system is honest; just go ahead and try it out; I guarantee it’ll work!]
The system’s loli voice chimed in.
“God, what if trying it out gets me killed…”
Ye Junlin internally grumbled.
If the system had such a capability, wouldn’t he be soaring straight to the top!
He could simply provoke those awesome cultivators and gain levels higher than theirs.
Cultivation?
Who the hell needs to cultivate!?
[Ding, as a warm reminder, the system detects that the host’s current health condition only has one hour of lifespan left!]
“No way, am I about to kick the bucket?”
“What to do, what to do; wait, I could find someone to fight! That way, I could gain a higher realm, and my lifespan would extend accordingly!”
Having made his decision, Ye Junlin leaned on his cane, painstakingly lifting his feet, eager to head down the mountain and find someone to provoke.
But considering how near his body was to its limit, he felt increasingly weak, panting heavily after just a short distance.
Looking at the long path still ahead, Ye Junlin wore a frustrated expression and complained,
“Good lord, why did you have to stay up here? You’ve made me suffer for nothing!”
Ding ding ding…
Just then.
A hurried bell rang from the Xuantian Sect.
Everyone in the sect was shaken because it meant enemies were approaching!
Boom!
The sky darkened with thick clouds, massive flying beasts closing in.
An aura of terror washed over them like a storm.
“What’s going on?”
Ye Junlin felt his scalp tingling.
Inside the sect, dozens of blazing rings shot up, forming formations that unleashed terrifying energy waves.
Whether they were disciples or elders, they poured out one after another, holding Magical Treasures at the ready.
“What guts you have!”
“Who dares to cause trouble for my Xuantian Sect!”
A rich voice filled with anger reverberated.
The sect master Xu Yonian appeared mid-air, flanked by powerful peak masters.
“You miserable beasts of the Xuanpeng, I didn’t think this demon king would still be alive; today I will surely slaughter every last one of you!”
The leader, the Qingpeng Demon King, said with a face full of malice.
“So it’s you, you evil creature!”
Sect Master Xu Yonian narrowed his eyes.
Ten years ago, the Qingpeng clan had massacred a small nation in the Arid Province, and the nation had to turn to the Xuantian Sect for help, leading Xu Yonian personally to intervene.
He recalled that the Qingpeng Demon King, after being severely wounded by him, fell off a cliff to who knows where.
Didn’t expect them to return once again!
“That humiliation will stay in my mind forever; I’ve come to take revenge and wash your Xuantian Sect in blood!”
The Qingpeng Demon King sneered.
“Hmph, dare to boast such nonsense with this bunch of beasts?”
Xu Yonian’s hair flew wildly as he scoffed.
“Ha ha, against this!”
With a thunderous boom, the Qingpeng Demon King’s aura surged like a flood, the power of Nascent Soul Stage pressing down like an avalanche.
“What, you actually broke through?!”
Xu Yonian’s face changed drastically.
He was still stuck at the completion of the Golden Core Stage, having found no signs of breakthrough for many years, yet this demon creature had seized luck and advanced to the Nascent Soul Stage first.
After all, for a small state in the Eastern Domain, having a Nascent Soul Stage powerhouse was enough to look down on all others.
“Master, what do we do?”
The seven peak masters appeared tense.
“At this point, we can only risk it all!”
Xu Yonian grit his teeth.
“Men, charge! Kill these stinking Daoists!”
The Qingpeng Demon King flapped his wings, resembling a green comet descending, radiating an aura of destruction.
“Yes, my king!”
A swarm of blue demon birds launched their attack, some spewing radiant light, others diving in for the hit.
“We swear to defend the Xuantian Sect to the death!”
Xu Yonian roared, leading all the cultivators in fierce resistance.
On Mysterious Peak, Ye Junlin stood dumbfounded, suddenly realizing, he waved his cane and eagerly shouted:
“Hey, somebody, just hit me! Come on, hit me now!!”
Sadly.
Everyone was preoccupied with the battle, and Ye Junlin’s little shouts were drowned out by the cries of battle.
[Ding, system warm reminder, the host currently has twenty minutes of life left; please take action quickly!]
“No way, so urgent to reincarnate?!”
Ye Junlin angrily slammed his cane down, never expecting time to fly by so quickly.
Was his cultivation career about to end before it even began?
