Limitless Ascension: Strength Amid Adversity

Chapter 14

“That’s good.” Ye Junlin looked quite pleased.

Then, the two of them flew off into the sky amidst cheers.

Hong Qianye’s expression was filled with resentment, and she had mentally cursed Ye Junlin’s ancestors a thousand times over.

At the court.

The Wei Emperor, draped in a dragon robe, sat on his dragon throne, looking at the petitions presented by his ministers, his aging face etched with gravity, his brows knitted deep into a furrow.

The civil and military officials lowered their heads, the atmosphere was extremely oppressive.

“Ah!”

After a long while, a helpless sigh broke the silence.

The Wei Emperor tossed aside the petition in his hand, rubbed his temples, and bitterly said, “At this rate, my vast empire is about to be destroyed by these evil forces!”

The death toll mentioned in the petition was alarming.

Originally, the Great Wei Dynasty had a population of eighty million, but over these past few years, it had directly decreased by more than thirty million, and the trend was worsening.

Panic and unrest were spreading among the people.

The court was also powerless, feeling anxious and helpless.

“Your Majesty, our Wei Kingdom relies on the Xuantian Sect; surely the immortals there won’t just stand by.”

One minister comforted.

“The Xuantian Sect…”

The Wei Emperor shook his head with a bitter smile, a look of disappointment on his face.

A few years ago, the Xuantian Sect had sent a team to investigate the situation, but that team had vanished shortly after arriving in Wei.

After that, he could only watch helplessly as the situation worsened.

And since then, the Xuantian Sect hadn’t made any further contact.

Could the Wei Kingdom still depend on such a sect?

“Father! Father!”

A sweet, bell-like voice called out.

Outside the court, a little princess, around thirteen years old, ran in, her delicate skin fair and her pretty face destined to be a beauty.

“Ling’er, what’s wrong…” The Wei Emperor looked puzzled.

This was his most beloved daughter; if anyone else acted so rashly, they would have their head chopped off by now.

The little princess waved a letter in her hand, her face beaming with joy, “It’s from the Second Brother! He sent news!”

“The Second Prince!”

The ministers showed surprised expressions.

The Wei Emperor’s second son had been chosen by an immortal from the Xuantian Sect at an early age and had been staying there all these years; this was common knowledge in the court.

It’s well-known that the sects recruit disciples based on talent.

Even if you were a noble or royal lineage, if your talent didn’t meet the standards, it was pointless.

Moreover, the Xuantian Sect was very strict in selecting disciples, prohibiting any kind of nepotism or bribery.

Thus, when the Second Prince was chosen, the Wei Emperor was overjoyed. That year, he granted amnesty to the kingdom and celebrated everywhere!

However, in recent years, the Second Prince had become so absorbed in his cultivation that he gradually lost contact with the Wei Kingdom.

Now, with a letter suddenly arriving, the ministers were all surprised.

“Quick, let me see what it says!”

The Wei Emperor took the letter from his daughter’s hand and hurriedly opened it.

Upon seeing the contents of the letter, his eyes widened, and excitement rose in his expression as he burst into laughter, slapping the table.

“Hahaha, this is great!”

This action caused the ministers to exchange glances, “Your Majesty, what’s happening?”

The Wei Emperor, brimming with excitement, said, “My son wrote that the Xuantian Sect is taking the strange occurrences in Wei very seriously and might even send the head of the Mysterious Peak to personally resolve it. We should remain calm and await good news!”

Hearing this, the ministers perked up.

Though they were mere mortals, they held high positions and had channels to gather news about the sects in the Arid Province.

According to rumors, the Xuantian Sect had defeated the Wind Thunder Sect with the help of that head of Mysterious Peak, Ye Junlin.

He was a powerful cultivator in the Nascent Soul Stage!

He possessed terrifying power, akin to that of an immortal in the eyes of the mundane world.

Now, with the Mysterious Peak’s Ye Junlin coming personally to assist the Wei Kingdom in overcoming its difficulties, how could they not feel thrilled?

The Wei Emperor was overjoyed; this was the best news he had heard in years.

“Ling’er, our Wei Kingdom is saved!”

The Wei Emperor lifted the little princess and kissed her adorable face.

“Hehe!”

The little princess smiled sweetly, her expression incredibly cute.

Suddenly.

A guard rushed in in a panic, “Your Majesty! Two immortals have descended outside!”

“They must be the immortals from the Xuantian Sect!”

“All ministers, quickly, follow me to greet them!”

The Wei Emperor exclaimed with delight.

In the imperial palace.

Colorful auspicious clouds filled the sky, and amidst countless astonished gazes, two figures enveloped in radiant light descended onto the square.

“Little Hong, don’t you think this grand entrance I chose is quite stylish?”

Ye Junlin said with his hands behind his back, feeling quite proud.

He aimed to create a huge spectacle, facilitating his scheme of luring out the snakes.

Hong Qianye shot him a disdainful glance, secretly thinking, “So immature!”

But she still politely clasped her hands, “Master is indeed wise; I think so too.”

“Welcome, esteemed immortals!”

Inside the palace, the Wei Emperor led the ministers in a hurried exit, kneeling and worshipping Ye Junlin and Hong Qianye.

For them, these were immortals capable of devastating the heavens and earth, unbound by the rules of the mortal realm.

The Wei Emperor carefully observed the silver-haired young man, his internal joy growing stronger.

According to the letter, the head of Mysterious Peak was marked by distinctive long silver hair, perfectly matching the appearance of the person before him.

Clearly, this had to be Ye Junlin without a doubt.

Shifting his gaze to Hong Qianye, the Wei Emperor’s heart jolted.

Even with three thousand beauties in his harem, compared to this woman, they were nothing.

“This is an otherworldly beauty…”

The Wei Emperor secretly sighed.

After all, accompanying Ye Junlin, he dared not entertain any untoward thoughts; he even felt that just looking at her was a form of disrespect towards this immortal.

“Ahem.”

Ye Junlin cleared his throat, and his authoritative voice resonated through the area, magically amplifying, “I have come this time to resolve the crisis in Wei Kingdom; you need not be overly anxious.”

“On behalf of the people of Wei, I thank the immortal!!”

The Wei Emperor shouted excitedly.

In the palace, everyone knelt, placing their hopes on Ye Junlin.

“Everybody, rise.”

Ye Junlin raised his hand, an invisible force spreading, gently lifting the Wei Emperor and his officials from the ground.

“Immortal, if you have any requests, please command us.” The Wei Emperor respectfully said.

“Arrange a place for my disciple and me to stay.”

“This way, please!”

The Wei Emperor extended his hand, secretly casting a glance at Hong Qianye who passed by; so, this immortal was the master’s disciple.

The little princess hid behind the Wei Emperor, gazing at Hong Qianye’s stunning face, secretly thinking:

“This sister is so beautiful; I hope I can grow up to be just as pretty as her.”

All along, Hong Qianye’s expression remained as cold as ice, not even deigning to glance at the group.

In her eyes, the Wei Emperor, the ministers, and even the entire populace of Wei were no different from ants.

She was only here to discover the true identity of the mastermind behind all this chaos.

In the Jing Tai Palace.

The hall was luxurious and comfortable, warm in winter and cool in summer.

This palace had cost the Wei Emperor a fortune and taken years to build; he usually enjoyed staying here, but now he was willing to hand it over to Ye Junlin and Hong Qianye.

“Step back; if needed, I will summon you.”

“It is my honor to serve the immortal.”

The Wei Emperor did not dare linger, quickly bowing out.

Creak.

The door closed behind him.

Ye Junlin plopped down onto a reclining chair made from a thousand-year-old nanmu tree, reached for the grapes in the fruit plate, and began munching with relish.

At that moment, he appeared completely casual, in stark contrast to his earlier imposing demeanor.

Hong Qianye couldn’t bear to look; this was the most unreliable Transformation Stage cultivator she had ever encountered.

What baffled her the most was how other cultivators usually sat cross-legged, focusing diligently on their cultivation.

But this guy spent all day indulging in food and fun, showing no sign of wanting to work hard on his cultivation.

How did he manage to reach the Transformation Stage in such a laid-back manner?

“Hmph, this is fine; at this rate, I can quickly crush him in terms of cultivation level. Then, it will be easier to take action.”

Hong Qianye thought to herself.

If Ye Junlin heard her thoughts, he would surely break into an unrestrained laughter.

Work hard on cultivation?

Please, I just lie flat; my realm relies on luck, and my magical powers just upgrade automatically.

Tell me, is working hard really useful?

Besides, who says being able to lie flat isn’t a form of effort?

At this moment, Ye Junlin took off his cloud-patterned battle boots, and suddenly a wooden basin appeared beneath his feet, filled with steaming warm water.

He gently placed his feet inside and let out a contented moan.

Just as Hong Qianye was about to look at him in disdain again, a voice floated into her ears,

“Little Hong, come wash my feet.”

Hong Qianye’s expression froze, almost doubting her ears, as veins bulged on her forehead and rage surged in her heart.

“What did you say?!!”
