Chapter 33: Love is in the Air
Wednesday, May 1st, 7:00
Laura woke up hearing her husband's breath next to her.
She slowly sat up in bed, taking deep breaths after every move. She felt quite dizzy after sitting; her vision was slightly blurry, but she ignored it as just another symptom of her pregnancy.
During her pregnancy, many things she used to do became harder, almost impossible. Her feet became swollen as the pregnancy advanced, so walking was slightly harder for Laura. She also experienced difficulty sleeping, which was a new experience for her since she had never had insomnia before. The first few times it happened, she got extremely frustrated, to the point of crying and wanting to scream the insomnia away.
Ignoring her dizziness, Laura calmly began to stroke her husband's hair; she couldn't help but smile warmly.
She didn't understand why he suddenly decided to take two days off work, but she was happy he finally could spend time with her.
Ever since they discovered her pregnancy, Wilson had begun to go to work before she woke up and came back at night, too tired to spend time with her. She understood that he was working harder for her and the baby, but she couldn't help but feel lonely and wish he would stay with her.
The previous day, when she woke up and went to the kitchen to eat, Wilson was sitting at the dinner table with a troubled look on his face, lost in thought, his gaze distant as if staring at an immeasurable horizon.
Noticing her coming into the kitchen, Wilson shook his head, postponing his thoughts.
Wilson made sure to be by her side all day. They went to Arabella Harrel's bakery for breakfast.
In the afternoon, they visited Eleanor at her job in the hotel. Laura gave her sister a small basket with food for her lunch. Wilson asked Eleanor where Gregor was, but since Gregor had gone to his room before her shift and hadn't left, she didn't know where he was either.
At night, they ate together before going to sleep in their room.
Wilson felt that he shouldn't sleep that night because of what Gregor had told him, but after eating, he felt incredibly tired. Even though he kept repeating to himself that he should stay awake, when he noticed, he felt his hair being caressed by his wife while the early sun of the morning lit up the room.
Seeing that her husband had finally woken up, Laura slowly caressed his cheek.
"Good morning, my love," She said with a warm smile.
Wilson sat up in bed as he replied with a smile, "Good morning, my darling."
He calmly moved closer to Laura, placing a gentle kiss on her lips.
Even though he was incredibly tense and anxious, he wouldn't let it show to avoid stressing her.
Wilson tried to get up, but as he did, he began to feel dizzy; his vision became blurry as he lost his balance, almost falling to the ground.
He leaned against the wall, taking deep breaths.
Noticing her husband's reaction, Laura quickly got up, despite still feeling dizzy.
"I'll go get some water for you, love," She said as she was about to open the door.
"No!" Wilson shouted, paranoid about what Gregor had told him the previous day. "Stay here, darling, don't worry, I'm fine."
Laura went to him, placing one hand on his back.
"My love, are you sure you're fine?" She asked.
Wilson sat on the bed; his vision slowly returned to normal.
"I'm going to get some water; you should change in the meantime," Wilson said as he got up after feeling better.
He still felt weak and was a little dizzy, but nothing he couldn't handle.
Laura decided to not press him any further and just agreed, "Sure, my love."
....
Wilson went to the kitchen and got a glass of water.
As he drank it, he took some leftover dinner from the previous night.
Before eating it, he noticed a weird stench, as if the leftovers were rotten.
Wilson took a fork and gently poked the meat.
As he poked it, he noticed the meat was infused with an unknown black liquid.
The unknown black liquid, which spilled on the table when Wilson poked the meat, suddenly turned into a thick black gas.
Before Wilson noticed it, he inhaled some of the gas, which made his vision blurry again. He felt his mind spinning as he lost his balance and fell to the floor.
While trying to regain his balance and stand up, Wilson's eyes widened in despair as he heard knocks at their room's door.
....
Laura finished changing clothes. She decided to wear a brown cotton dress.
She felt that Wilson wasn't telling her something, but decided to ignore it, thinking he just didn't want her to be stressed.
As she opened the curtain and window of the room, she heard someone knocking on the door.
She thought that Wilson had prepared something and wanted to show her. Because of that, she excitedly opened the door.
As she opened the door, her smile faded into a confused look.
What waited for her outside the room wasn't Wilson, but instead, a man with broad shoulders and a strong figure, wearing a black cloak that covered his whole body and a brown mask.
The masked man bowed to her.
"Good morning, Ms. Rigby." The man's voice was strong and powerful; it gave Laura a strange sense of familiarity, as if she had heard it before.
While Laura tried to remember where she had heard the masked man's voice before, the whole room began to fill with a thick black gas.
The man took a step forward, pushing Laura back into the room, almost making her fall.
