Chapter 230.1
It was someone’s dream――
During a night bathed in moonlight.
As the dragon’s roar reverberated through the air, a little girl was desperately running through the forest.
She was a demon. Perhaps six or seven years old. For someone her age, she possessed considerable magic power, but it was not enough to face the dragon.
She wept as she slipped through the trees. The dragon, baring its ferocious fangs, was pursuing her, knocking down everything in its path.
“N… No…!” (Little girl)
Her shoes came off as she ran, and her arms and legs were bleeding in places.
She kept running frantically, but then, she tripped over a large tree root and fell to the ground.
“Ugh… Ah…” (Little girl)
Enduring the pain, she struggled to get up.
When she turned toward the fierce growling, she saw the dragon’s head.
“Ah…”
Her legs gave out, and she fell on her backside, inching backward.
The dragon’s eyes stayed fixed on its prey, never leaving her.
“Help me…”
The dragon opened its jaws wide.
“GROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAARRR…!!” (Dragon)
“Save me… Big Brother…!” (Little girl)
With a deafening roar, the dragon’s fangs closed in on the girl.
Its jaws snapped shut with a crunch, but she hadn’t been devoured.
“Hmm. I heard this forest was supposed to repel dragons.” (???)
The one who appeared on the scene was a ten-year-old demon boy.
He held the dragon’s long fangs with one hand and stomped on its lower jaw with his foot. Black hair and black eyes.
To those who could witness him, it was evident that he possessed extraordinary magic power.
His name was Anos Voldigoad.
This was before he came to be known as the Demon King of Tyranny.
“<Black Burning Flame Griad>.” (Anos)
The dragon let out a great scream as scorching black flames were thrust into its throat.
However, unable to do anything about the flames inside its body, it had its insides burned and collapsed to the ground.
“That should do it.” (Anos)
Anos bound the half-dead dragon tightly with <Magic Restriction Chain Gijel> and then sealed it within his storage magic.
He turned to look at the girl.
She sighed in relief, then tears welled up in her eyes even more than before, and she began to sob.
“Don’t cry. Your big brother just exterminated that big bully of a dragon.” (Anos)
Anos put his hand on his sister’s head and smiled gently.
“You have nothing to worry about anymore.” (Anos)
“…*Sniff*… *Sob*…Big Brother…” (Little girl)
The girl clung to Anos and began to cry even louder.
“…I was so scared! Big Brother…!” (Little girl)
Anos patted the girl’s back gently.
Seeing that his sister would not stop crying, he drew a magic circle in the palm of his hand.
“Look at this.” (Anos)
When Anos opened his hand, a red shining jewel appeared there.
“Wow…” (Little girl)
The girl’s eyes sparkled as she stared intently at the jewel.
“This morning, I learned to cast the <Creative Construction Ibis> spell. This is for you.” (Anos)
“I can have it?” (Little girl)
“Yeah.” (Anos)
With a smile like a blooming flower, the girl laughed.
“Thank you, Big Brother!” (Little girl)
“You’re easily pleased with just a jewel.” (Anos)
“It’s not about money for me! I’m a demon. I’m your little sister.” (Little girl)
Anos responded to his sister’s retort with a smile and held her up like a princess.
The light of his recovery magic healed the girl’s wounds.
Floating upwards with <Flight Fress>, Anos flew toward the depths of the forest.
“It seems that this place has also been sniffed out by the dragons. Tomorrow, at dawn, we’ll have to move again.” (Anos)
“Hey, Big Brother. I know a good place.” the girl said while in Anos’ arms.
“Oh? Where is that?” (Anos)
“Do you know about towns? Lots of people live in towns. They have magic barriers, so they’re safe even if a dragon comes.” the girl said with a smile.
“So if we go to a town, we won’t have to run anymore.” (Little girl)
“Where did you hear about that?” (Anos)
“Well, I found it in a book I picked up. So there must be people living nearby, and there must be a town somewhere.” (Little girl)
Anos closed his mouth for a moment before answering.
“Unfortunately, we can’t go to a town.” (Anos)
“Why? Don’t you know about towns either, Big Brother?” (Little girl)
“I’ve taught you that dragons chase their prey, right?” (Anos)
The girl nodded.
“That’s the truth, but normally, dragons wouldn’t chase their prey to a land without dragons. Especially since the soil in this forest is filled with magic power that they avoid. It’s me that attracts the dragons.” (Anos)
“…Do the dragons only chase after you, Big Brother?” (Little girl)
“Yes. That’s why we can’t go to a town. I would get the demons living there involved in my trouble. Also, if they knew that dragons were after me, we wouldn’t be welcome among them.” (Anos)
Anos explained so, but in reality, it was his sister who was being targeted by the dragons.
He didn’t want to burden his young sister with the responsibility for their constant fleeing.
“I’m sorry that we’ve had to move from place to place because of me. I could have left you in a town, but even so, I wanted to be with you.” (Anos)
The girl brightened up immediately.
“It’s okay! Because I love you, Big Brother. I’d rather be with you than stay in a town alone!” (Little girl)
Saying that, she clung tightly to Anos.
“Fufu!” (Little girl)
“What is it?” (Anos)
“You know… I always thought I was useless. That I was just a burden to you, having to be protected all the time, and that I couldn’t do anything.” (Little girl)
The girl said happily.
“But you need me, right, Big Brother?” (Little girl)
“Yes. Because you’re my only family.” (Anos)
Anos nodded with a warm smile on his face.
