Married For Now

Chapter 18: THE GHOST HUSBAND

"YOU COULD have asked for a bigger and nicer apartment, Hyung."

Aigoo.

Like mother, like son.

"This two-bedroom apartment is already big enough for one person," Sohee said, going straight to the kitchen. "I have water, juice, cider, soju, and beer here. What would you like to have, Kim Heedo?"

"Nah, I'm fine. I won't be staying for long," Kim Heedo said, sitting on the sofa. "Jung-nim told me I have to be with you at least twice a week. Apparently, it's to replenish my good energy or whatever."

Sohee grabbed two cans of cider before returning to the living room. "Did you not attend the party earlier?" he asked, handing Kim Heedo the cider even though the kid said he didn't want it earlier. "My department was sharing the restaurant with your department."

"You were already gone when I got there," Kim Heedo said, accepting the cider. "I waited quite a bit in front of Hyung's apartment."

"Why didn't you just call?"

Kim Heedo just shrugged.

Haaah.

Is he in his rebellious phase or something?

"Spill it," Sohee said, sitting on the other end of the sofa. "Why did you ghost me? I mean, I know that we're only married on paper. And I'm not trying to be a controlling husband who doesn't know his place. But I think I deserve an explanation. Did I do something wrong? Did I cross a line I didn't know?"

Kim Heedo fell silent for a moment. "I just get reminded of my stupidity when I look at you, Hyung. But I know that it's not right to blame you, so I avoided you. I didn't want to accidentally lash out at you."

"Blame me for what?"

"Our marriage was the catalyst that ended my relationship with Lee Junsu."

"Didn't your relationship already end with him before we got married?"

Kim Heedo scowled, but he couldn't refute what Sohee said.

"Even if you glare at me like that, your relationship with Lee Junsu wouldn't get fixed."

"Hyung, you really have a nasty temper, don't you?"

"Yeah, so you better talk before I completely show you the temper of a crazy bastard like me."

Kim Heedo sighed before opening his mouth. "One of my friends accidentally mentioned to Lee Junsu that I'm already married. Apparently, Lee Junsu felt so betrayed that he decided to date his current boyfriend."

Ah.

That's it?

"When I heard that, I realized that Lee Junsu still has feelings for me," Kim Heedo said, taking a sip of the cider. "I can't stop thinking about what could have happened if I told him I was going to marry you, Hyung. Had I done that, perhaps, Lee Junsu would have asked to get back with me. In a twisted way, marrying Hyung completely severed my relationship with him. My mind says it's wrong, but my heart keeps blaming it on our marriage."

"Kim Heedo, you married me to end the misfortune of your family," Sohee reminded Kim Heedo calmly. He didn't have the energy to get mad since he already felt bad for Kim Heedo and his cursed love life. "If you could turn back time, would you really choose Lee Junsu over your family?"

"Hyung wouldn't understand. Plus, I can't turn back time. Am I not allowed to regret the wrong decision I made?"

"You can still correct that mistake, though."

"And how would I do that?"

"We can just divorce," Sohee said casually. "I don't care as long as I get to keep the comfortable lifestyle that I have now."

"As if Grandfather would allow us to divorce."

"Then I don't know what else to say to you, Kim Heedo."

"Can I pursue a relationship with Lee Junsu while we're married, Hyung? Like you said, we're just married on paper."

"Lee Junsu is dating another man, isn't he?"

"If Lee Junsu and I talk, I'm confident that he'll choose me. All I have to do is prove to him that our marriage is a sham."

Crazy kid.

"Kim Heedo, I know that we're not a real married couple," Sohee said as carefully as possible. "But, even if that's the case, I believe we should still respect each other by not seeing other people. Call me old-fashioned, but I'd rather we just divorce than have you date another man while we're legally married."

As expected, Kim Heedo frowned.

This kid is really losing his mind.

Haaah.

For some reason, Sohee couldn't stand seeing Kim Heedo in that state.

Let's just help him before he completely loses it.

"Talk to Lee Junsu first."

"And then what?"

"If Lee Junsu breaks up with his boyfriend for you, then we'll talk about this again," Sohee said, sighing. "We'll figure out how to convince your family to let us divorce."

Kim Heedo's face lit up a bit, and then he suddenly got serious. "Hyung, there's already a nasty rumor going around about you."
