Marvel: As Thor

Chapter 26: Chapter 25: The Beginning Of The Duel Champion

For most races in the universe, passing through wormholes more than 50 times in a row would cause physical discomfort...

"Have you checked how many times we're going to jump?" Thor asked, his voice strained as he tried to fight the dizziness creeping up on him.

"Uh, it seems to be more than 1,500 times..." Nebula replied weakly, her own face pale from the unrelenting jumps.

"Ah ah ah ah ah--" Thor groaned, feeling the pressure building in his head and stomach. His body felt like it was being pulled in all directions.

Soon, the nausea became overwhelming, and Thor began to feel dizzy. His stomach churned as if a storm were brewing within. He wasn't accustomed to this kind of strain, and Nebula seemed to be having a similar experience.

Poor little sister Nebula was already delirious, barely holding onto consciousness. Thor knew she wouldn't be able to hold on for much longer at this rate.

The fighter plane suddenly trembled violently, as though it could no longer handle the constant stress of the wormhole transmissions. The metal groaned under the pressure, and the systems malfunctioned. Warning lights blinked red across the control panel. Thor cursed under his breath, clutching Nebula in his arms.

"We're not going to make it if we stay on this path," Thor muttered. Without hesitation, he slammed his fist onto the emergency eject button, sending the two of them rocketing out of the ship into the cold expanse of space.

...

They landed with a jarring crash on Sakaar. A chaotic planet with almost no law and order, it had earned a reputation as a place where criminals were sent to exile. Trash from all over the universe littered the planet, and its people were tough, violent, and lawless.

Sakaar was a far cry from the beauty of Asgard or the peace of Earth. It was a place where people from all races and backgrounds fought to survive, often scraping by on whatever scraps they could find.

Even in such a place, however, there was a thriving underground industry—gladiatorial combat. This was where those seeking fame, fortune, and glory could test their mettle in the arena.

Thor, still holding Nebula in his arms, stumbled out of a huge heap of garbage. His muscles ached from the landing, but he pushed forward. He wasn't about to go down that easily.

A group of scavengers surrounded them, their faces twisted in greed. One of them raised a strange weapon—a webgun designed to paralyze. It crackled with energy as the scavenger aimed it directly at them.

"I can't deal with Thanos and these punks?" Thor snarled, the anger bubbling up inside him. He could feel the power of his own frustration and strength swelling. Without warning, he charged forward, fists flying. One scavenger after another fell before him, their knees hitting the dirt as they crumbled under his might.

Nebula, still dazed, watched the scene unfold. She had never seen Thor in action quite like this, and the sight was both terrifying and awe-inspiring. Despite the constant strain on their bodies, Thor never faltered.

...

When Nebula finally regained full consciousness, Thor looked at her with a troubled expression. "Did you bring any money? Can our cosmic coins buy us a flight?" he asked, his tone edged with frustration. "Even if you have money, you probably don't have universal coins. What we got from those scavengers won't get us far…"

Nebula slowly surveyed the surroundings. The desolation of the planet hit her all at once. She shook her head, her voice barely above a whisper. "A normal planet might have enough, but here? Everything is a mess. The prices could be many times higher than usual..."

Thor let out a long, frustrated sigh. This wasn't how he'd imagined this journey would go, but sometimes in life, you had to make do with the hand you were dealt.

"In places like this, there's always a shortcut to get money quickly," he said, suddenly perking up. He looked around the dim-lit bar they'd found shelter in. "And the simplest way? The fighting arena."

...

"Our top priority right now is to get enough money to buy a spaceship and get the hell off this rock." Thor took a swig of the strange drink in his hand before turning to Nebula. "Next, I'll sign up to fight in the duel as a free man. I'm going to challenge the guy who's won 66 consecutive victories, and we'll take the bounty. That's how we'll get out of here."

Nebula raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "What about me?" she asked, her arms crossed.

"You're going to bet all our money on me winning," Thor said matter-of-factly.

"And then?" Nebula asked, her curiosity piqued.

"Then, we'll bet all the winnings on my next match. Keep the cycle going. Bet on me to win again…" Thor's grin widened. He was practically bouncing with energy now, the idea of taking on the champion clearly thrilling him.

Nebula stared at him, exasperated. "Is it really that simple?" she asked, a sigh escaping her lips as she shook her head.

"But you know what?" she thought to herself. "He did manage to force a 50/50 split with Thanos. Maybe he really does have what it takes." Nebula felt herself feeling slightly reassured. The fact that Thor had managed to hold his own against Thanos for so long, and without dying, was enough to make her believe in his ability to fight anyone.

...

Meanwhile, in a lavish room somewhere in Sakaar, Grandmaster sat in his ornate chair, wearing his signature rich gold coat. His eyes narrowed as he watched Thor, who had just made his bold proposal.

"Are you really planning to sign up for the gladiatorial competition and directly challenge the champion?" Grandmaster asked, surprised by Thor's confidence. "Normally, a lot of people want to be the one to end the champion's streak, but few are willing to risk their lives for it."

He took a moment to consider Thor's strength. From the way he had taken down the group of men who tried to stop him, Grandmaster figured the god of thunder must have considerable skill. Three of the men had been turned to cinders, and the last one had been turned into a puddle of scorched bread batter.

Grandmaster chuckled, a hint of amusement in his voice. "I don't usually get surprised by fighters, but you... you're different. You're certainly confident."
