Chapter 31: Who’s Stupid Enough To Walk Through A Portal Created By An SCP?
"Dammit"! "Fucking hell"! Looking at this weird red disc glued to his mirror, Tony couldn't help cursing.
"Why am I so unlucky? This is the second time I've encountered an SCP"! "Fuck"! Tony hesitated for a bit, deciding whether to stay, or get as far away as possible from this anomaly. In the end, his curiosity got the better of him.
"JARVIS, scan the engravings on this disc, see if it matches with any known languages". "This disc hasn't done anything strange yet, it's just glued to the mirror". "Perhaps it isn't as dangerous as those previous anomalies". Tony thought to himself.
He turned to look at the light curtain, where the last bit of information appeared.
[SCP 093 changes colours, apparently based on "regrets carried by the holder". There seems to be some link between colour changes and the mental state or level of knowledge possessed by the holder. These colours consists of: 'blue', 'green', 'violet', 'yellow' and 'red'. ]
[When SCP 093 is held by someone close to a mirror, they'll be able to pass through the mirror and appear on the other side, which seems to be an alternate reality.]
...
"It changes colour when held, and acts as a portal to another reality"? Tony was utterly shocked. But then, his eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Judging from the description, this thing holds no danger if you don't pass through the portal".
"Interesting"….
...
SHIELD Headquarters.
All the SHIELD agents were taken aback for a moment. Looking at this last bit of information, it seems that this Red Sea Object, is different from all the previous Special Contained Objects.
If the holder doesn't take the initiative to pass through the portal created by SCP 093, there won't be any danger! Moreover, now that the description of this anomaly has been shown, no matter who encounters this SCP, they should avoid it.
"No one would be so stupid to place this anomaly on a mirror in order to pass through a portal to an alternate reality…right"? One of the agents said in a joking manner.
"This time, I think SHIELD should be able to contain this anomaly"! Agent Sitwell commented. The other agents nodded, seemingly agreeing with him.
Besides the fact that this anomaly can allow you to travel to an alternate reality, everything else seems harmless.
....
Kamar-Taj.
"This Red Sea object lets you travel to an alternate reality through a mirror"? "Is it similar to the mirror dimension? Or is it just an alternate world that mirrors our own"? The Ancient One thought in contemplation.
"Perhaps this anomaly is an incredibly powerful magical artifact".
"Travelling to an alternate reality, or even a different dimension would need an immense amount of energy". "I wonder who'd create such an artifact, and for what purpose". The Ancient One thought curiously.
...…..
On the light curtain, the textual information disappeared, and a live broadcast began.
Seeing the person appearing on the screen, The Ancient One was momentarily stunned, and she exclaimed: "Stark? Why is it him again"?
On the Internet, everyone else was just as shocked.
"What"? "It's Tony Stark again"!
"Hahahaha"! "This guy is so unlucky! It's the second time he's encountered an SCP"!
"Unfortunately, if you're smart enough to steer clear of this anomaly, it won't pose much of a threat. Otherwise, i would've love to see this playboy losing his shit".
"Tony Stark seems to be at his Malibu Mansion. I live in Malibu as well! Guys, I'm going to verify the authenticity of these anomalies"! "Wait for my good news"!
"..."
On the screen of the light curtain——
After confirming that the Red Sea Object posed no danger currently, Tony took a deep breath, stepped forward and took SCP 093 off of the mirror. He encountered no resistance, but the Red Sea Object started to glow a bright red.
"Huh? It hasn't changed colour, but it's glowing red"! "That's right, red is also one of the five colours it changes into when being held. Tony muttered to himself. Hesitating for a bit, he decided to go down to his laboratory to run a few tests on it.
Tony found a full length mirror and placed it on the other side of the room. Then, he found a large table and stood it up a few metres in front of the mirror, blocking its view. He slowly placed the Red Sea object on the opposite side of the table, and then let go.
The next moment, SCP 093 started rolling in a circle, building up phenomenal speed. Then, it used this momentum to punch through the table and attach itself to the mirror. Despite this tremendous impact, SCP 093 and the mirror had no visible damage.
"Interesting, it's just as it was described on the light curtain". Tony dispelled the fear he had of these anomalies, overshadowed by his immense curiosity.
He held the mirror and shook it hard to see if the Red Sea Object would detach itself from it. Unfortunately, it seemed like it was glued to the mirror and would not detach itself unless done so by a person. He ran a few more tests and even used other objects that had mirror-like surfaces. The results were all as described on the light curtain.
Suddenly, he thought of an idea: "Wait, What if I placed this Red Sea Object in the middle of two mirrors that both had the exact same distance between them and the Red Sea Object"?
Thinking of this, he immediately fetched two mirrors and placed the Red Sea object in the middle. While still holding onto SCP 093, he asked Jarvis to confirm if the distances between both mirrors and the Red Sea object was equal. After getting the affirmative, he let go of SCP 093.
....
Seeing this scene, people watching the live broadcast posted their reactions on the Internet.
"Damn! What's going through this guy's head? Even after encountering a life-threatening anomaly before, he still has the guts to do experiments on this new anomaly"? "Is he not afraid of what might happen"?
"You're right, he encountered that Plague Doctor that could turn people into zombies! You'd think he learned his lesson, and would stay as far away as possible from any kind of anomaly".
"What a crazy guy! I hope his stupidity doesn't affect everyone else".
"..."
On the light curtain——
After letting go of SCP 093, without any delay, it immediately attached itself to one of the mirrors. Tony did the same experiment several more times, but SCP 093 would attach itself to either one of the mirrors each time. "Interesting. Either it randomly picks a mirror to attach to when they're both similar distances away from it, or it determined that one of the mirrors is closer". Tony came to this conclusion.
Then, his gaze fixed on the Red Sea object. "These experiments were merely to confirm the description shown on the light curtain". "If I wish to know more about this anomaly, then I can only enter the portal created by it when attached to a mirror".
.....
SHIELD Headquarters.
Seeing the look on Tony's face, Nick Fury's brows twitched. "What is this guy trying to do? He can't be so stupid, right"?
Obviously, if no one takes the initiative to pass through the mirror to the Otherworld, then this Red Sea object would be significantly less dangerous. But judging from Tony's expression, it looks like he wants to try?
....
Stark Mansion, Inside the Laboratory.
Tony held the Red Sea object in his hand while it glowed red, then he attached it to one of the mirrors. Suddenly, the surface of the mirror had a wavy texture similar to water. Taking a deep breath, Tony quickly stepped into the mirror and appeared on the other side.
