With deep, mysterious blue eyes that seemed to hold countless stories, a handsome face, and a tall yet athletic build, Mike immediately attracted the attention of several market vendors as he walked into the vegetable market in New York's Chinatown.

Mike's Chinese dishes required many ingredients that could only be found here. He hadn't had the chance to come for the past few days, but now that Clark was in school, he finally had plenty of free time.

As for the farm, Bob and Mary were there, so he didn't need to be involved unless necessary.

Ah, the life of a happy farmer.

Mike was completely satisfied with his current lifestyle.

After buying everything he needed, he leisurely drove back toward town.

Clark wouldn't be home for lunch, so Mike had plenty of personal time.

*Mustang Restaurant*

Mike parked his car outside and walked in. Sometimes eating out was a nice change of pace.

He ordered some food and sat by the window, enjoying his meal while observing the people passing by outside. It was quite a peaceful experience.

Suddenly, a loud rumble of thunder echoed across the sky.

Mike furrowed his brow.

A heavy rainstorm was approaching.

He quickly finished his meal, but the rain still began to pour before he could finish.

The rain was heavy, as if the sky itself was dumping water. A curtain of rain enveloped the world.

Mike stood at the door, waiting for the rain to lighten up before heading out.

Just then, he saw a woman struggling to run through the street, fighting against the downpour.

Noticing her large belly, Mike paused for a moment.

What's going on with this woman?

As the thought crossed his mind, the woman stumbled and fell to the ground.

Mike immediately rushed out of the restaurant and made his way toward her.

The woman lay on the ground, her face contorted in pain. A trickle of blood slowly leaked from beneath her.

Mike's heart raced as he crouched down, scooping her up and rushing toward his car. He shouted, "Hang in there! I'll take you to the hospital!"

The hospital wasn't far—only a few minutes away.

He placed the woman on the backseat of his car and sped toward the hospital.

Mike glanced at the rearview mirror, his mood darkening.

The blood was steadily increasing.

Damn it, he didn't have any medical supplies, and he didn't have time to manifest any.

He slapped the steering wheel and accelerated.

---

Five minutes later, with the screech of tires, Mike pulled up in front of the hospital. He hurriedly carried the woman, whose cries had weakened, into the building.

"Quick! Someone help!" Mike shouted.

A doctor rushed over, instructing a nurse to bring a stretcher and hurriedly heading toward the operating room while contacting the necessary specialists.

Mike followed them to the door of the operating room, sighing in relief.

He hoped the woman's condition wasn't as bad as he feared.

However, his hope was clearly at odds with reality.

Despite the doctors' best efforts, the woman's condition was too severe, and they couldn't save her life.

"Are you just going to stand there?" the doctor snapped at Mike. "Go in and say goodbye to your wife!"

Wife?

Mike was stunned for a moment but didn't respond.

He pushed open the operating room door and walked inside.

The doctors filed out, and one patted Mike on the shoulder. "She was a great mother. She gave you the two most precious gifts in this world."

Mike nodded and calmly muttered his thanks.

Soon, only Mike remained in the operating room, along with the woman, who had just become a mother, and the two babies peacefully sleeping in their cribs.

The woman gazed at Mike, her tired eyes full of gratitude, and she managed to force a smile on her pale face.

Mike approached and silently looked at her.

He felt that the woman had walked this lonely path alone for too long, and he was here to help her in her final moments.

She reached out, grabbing the hem of Mike's shirt weakly. "You're a good person."

When she fell and others merely watched, Mike was the first to rush to her aid and get her to the hospital. To her, in that moment, he had been like an angel.

Mike stared at the woman, unsure of what to say. All he could manage was, "Things will get better."

Her lips twitched slightly, and her smile was fragile, like a flower that could wither at any moment.

"Sir..." she whispered.

"My name is Mike. Mike Kent."

"Mr. Kent." The woman clutched Mike's shirt with all her strength and said, "Please, adopt my two children."

Before Mike could refuse, the woman spoke in a weak voice, "I know my request is absurd, but they have no other relatives left. I don't want to send them to a cold, impersonal welfare institution."

Mike frowned. "What about their father? I can help you get them to him."

"No!" The woman shook her head, her voice frantic. "He's a monster, a scoundrel!"

"Please! Don't give them to him! Please, adopt them."

She clung to Mike, looking at him with careful yet hopeful eyes.

Mike remained silent.

It was clear how deeply disappointed she was in that man, that she would rather entrust her children to a stranger she had only met briefly than let them be with him.

"Please, please…" Her voice weakened, her plea growing fainter.

Mike nodded. "Alright."

The woman, overwhelmed with gratitude, seemed to lose the last of her strength and slumped back onto the operating table.

"Give them names," Mike said softly, bending down to look at her.

The woman's lips moved weakly, and her faint voice barely reached Mike's ears.

"Brother Eric… and little brother Charles."

At hearing the names, Mike paused for a moment.

But now was not the time to think about that.

Looking at the woman, who was clearly nearing the end, Mike sighed inwardly. "At least tell me your name. Tell those two children what their mother's name is."

At those words, the woman's eyes seemed to regain some light, her gaze sharp and focused.

"Olivia Canova…" she whispered.

As she spoke her name, her eyes lost focus, and a pure smile appeared on her pale face. It seemed like she had returned to a time when she was still an innocent young girl.

Back then, she had a warm home and loving parents.

But then, her family had been in a car accident, and she was the only one left.

That time had been the darkest period of her life, until she met him...

She had thought the man was her hero, the one who led her out of darkness. Instead, he had been the devil who briefly gave her happiness but ultimately dragged her into the abyss.

Ah, her life had truly been tragic. If there was any luck, perhaps it was that she met a good man before she died...

The woman looked at Mike, struggling to turn her eyes to gaze at the two children lying nearby. Slowly, her eyelids fluttered closed, and her hand that clung to Mike's shirt slowly slid away.

Mike gently held her hand. "Don't worry. I'll take good care of them."

Placing her hand by her side, Mike looked at the two children, still peacefully asleep.

In that moment, he felt the greatness of a mother's love.

And at nearly the same time, the system notification chimed twice.
