"Get up, you lazy pig!"

Seeing Eric sleeping soundly with his pillow, Charles scowled and called out.

It was hard to believe Eric was older than him by a few minutes—why did he feel more like the older brother?

Eric buried his head deeper in the pillow and mumbled, "Dad, let me sleep a little longer. You should go wake up Charles, he's lazier than I am."

Charles: (▼へ▼メ)

Taking a deep breath, he raised his foot, looking at Eric's backside, but hesitated before lowering it again.

This might not be a good idea…

He turned and walked into the bathroom.

A few seconds later, Charles came out holding a basin of cold water.

"Heh heh!"

Waking him up this gently was too much fun.

Splash!

"Ah! Help!" Eric screamed like a pig being slaughtered and jumped out of bed.

"Hahaha!"

Charles laughed so hard, he nearly doubled over.

Eric froze for a moment, then angrily yelled, "Damn you, Charles!"

He jumped off the bed, fists raised.

Charles quickly rolled to the side and shouted, "Who told you not to wake up?!"

"I…"

"No time, hurry up!"

"Go…"

"I've got a good idea! I'll wait outside, you hurry and change!"

Without waiting for Eric to respond, Charles dashed out of the room and made a victory gesture.

Preemptive strike… success!

Ten minutes later, after Eric got ready, the two of them had a quick meal and set off on their new journey.

Their target this time was a police car parked by the roadside.

"This is your idea? To find the police?!"

Eric whispered in Charles' ear, confused, while his eyes were fixed on the police car in the distance.

"Just watch!"

Charles whispered back, walking up to the police car with Eric. He knocked on the window and flashed a grin at the officer.

The police officer blinked in surprise, opened the door, and stepped out. "What's the matter, kids?"

"I can't find my dad."

Charles said this with a pitiful look, while secretly using his ability on the officer.

The officer's expression turned hazy for a moment. "Come with me, I'll help you find him."

Charles nodded and dragged Eric into the car.

"What's your dad's name? Do you know where he lives?"

"He's George. George Baker." Charles answered, then added sheepishly, "I don't remember where he lives."

As he finished speaking, he waited for the officer's foggy gaze, using his power again and saying, "Uncle, you'll help me, won't you?"

The officer immediately nodded without hesitation. "Don't worry, I'll check for you."

"Thank you!"

Charles said gratefully, flashing Eric a smug look.

Eric rolled his eyes and muttered, "Drama queen."

But it was effective.

Half an hour later, the officer found several George Bakers, and after Charles identified the right one, the officer confirmed the address.

Once they had the address, the officer offered to take Charles and Eric to the location. However, Charles used his ability to control the officer, leaving behind a subconscious suggestion that the officer had already dropped them off. With that, he and Eric hailed a taxi and headed to their destination.

"This little guy is really crafty!"

Mike had been watching the whole process and couldn't help but chuckle.

These two were even smarter than he had imagined.

He instructed Clark to keep an eye on them as he drove, staying a good distance behind.

Half an hour later, the taxi came to a stop.

Charles and Eric stood in front of a run-down apartment building.

"Are you sure it's here? Just this dump?"

Eric looked around with disdain.

The ground was littered with needles, incomprehensible graffiti, and scattered trash.

It was practically a junkyard.

No wonder the driver had given them a pitiful look when they got out of the car, and then quickly left after they stepped out.

Charles nodded. "This is the address we were given."

He looked up and pulled Eric along. "Let's go."

The place made him feel uncomfortable, and all he wanted now was to figure out why, then leave quickly.

The two of them entered the apartment building and climbed the stairs all the way to the fifth floor. They looked around before stopping in front of a door.

Immediately, the calm demeanor they had been holding on to shifted, and they started to feel nervous.

"Knock on the door," Eric said, looking at Charles.

Charles took a step back. "You knock."

"Look at you, acting so scared!"

Eric took a deep breath, raised his hand, and was about to knock anxiously when the door suddenly creaked open.

"Who are you looking for?"

A heavily made-up woman in just her underwear yawned and stared at the two of them in confusion.

Eric turned to Charles. "Did we get the wrong place?"

Charles glanced at the woman, then politely and obediently said, "We're looking for George Baker."

The woman gave them a puzzled look, then called out to someone inside, "Hey, idiot! There are two little kids here looking for you."

She leaned against the door frame, fingering her blood-red nails, and joked, "Who are you guys to him? His illegitimate children? Here to find your dad?"

Eric nodded.

The woman's expression froze, her heavily made-up face turning pale. When a muscular man, yawning and barely dressed, appeared at the door, she slapped him across the face and shouted, "You bastard, didn't you say you were single? Who are these kids?"

The man looked confused and asked, "What kids?"

"Still pretending! They've come to your door!" The woman angrily shoved the man aside and walked into the room, while the man quickly glanced at the two standing at the door, frowning. "Wait a second!"

Bang!

The man slammed the door shut.

Eric turned to Charles. "Is that him?"

Charles hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "It's him."

In an instant, Charles had enough time to read the man's identity. The man's appearance also matched the photo Charles had seen in Mike's memory. Though there were some changes, it was unmistakably him.

Eric fell silent for a moment, but internally he felt relieved. "He doesn't look like a good guy."

If he wasn't a good person, then there was no hesitation left.

"I'll read his memories carefully and find out what we need to know."

Just then, loud noises came from inside the room, followed by some sounds that were decidedly not for children…

Eric and Charles exchanged confused glances, waiting.

Meanwhile, Clark, who had been watching them from a distance, turned beet red. He quickly closed his eyes.

"Clark?" Mike asked, looking at him in confusion. "Are you okay?"

Clark hurriedly shook his head and turned his face away. "I'm fine. They're safe."

"I was talking about you."

"I'm fine." Clark took a deep breath, shook his head, and looked back at Eric and Charles.

This time, he didn't let his vision penetrate the door but kept it on the two younger boys.

"Whoo!"

He let out a breath of relief.

A few minutes later, he suddenly said, "Those two just went inside with that man."
