The two had only just met today, and while they got along well and felt comfortable talking, there were still some things that couldn't be said.

For a moment, the dining room fell into silence.

Clark, curious, watched the two of them, taking small sips of his juice. "Dad, which room is Uncle Logan sleeping in tonight?"

"He'll be leaving soon."

Mike turned to look at Logan and smiled. "Right, Logan?"

Logan's eyes darkened for a moment, then he smiled openly, ruffling Clark's nose. "Yep, I've got things to do—lots of things!"

Looking at Logan, Mike sighed inwardly.

Logan was a good guy—he would make a great friend, but right now, the problems surrounding him were too much.

From Logan's recent escape, Mike guessed he had just been injected with Adamantium and had escaped from Strucker's base. Now he was being hunted by Strucker's men.

If it weren't for Clark, Mike wouldn't mind helping Logan out. He would have helped him escape and even dealt with Strucker.

But now, he was a father first, and he had to be responsible for Clark.

*One hour later…*

Logan stood outside, bidding farewell to Mike and Clark.

As he looked at the father and son before him, his heart warmed a little, something it hadn't felt in a long time.

If it weren't for Mike, he'd still be starving and naked.

Logan knew he was in trouble, and staying there would only cause trouble for Mike and Clark. He couldn't ask for more, and he didn't have the right to expect more. Mike had done all he could for him.

With that thought, Logan couldn't help but express his gratitude. "Thanks, buddy."

Mike nodded, giving Logan a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Take care, Logan! When you've sorted out your mess, you're always welcome here!"

Logan flashed a smile, nodding. He bent down and pinched Clark's cheek. "See you, little man."

Clark obediently waved. "Goodbye, Uncle Logan."

Logan smiled as he turned to leave.

One step, two steps…

Logan walked away like a lone wolf, disappearing into the darkness.

"Dad, Uncle Logan looks so lonely... lonely... what was that word again, Dad?"

Clark looked up at Mike.

Mike responded softly, "Lonely."

"Yeah, that's what I meant."

"You little rascal, what do you know?" Mike chuckled, picking up Clark. "Come on, it's bedtime."

But the next moment, Mike's eyes changed slightly. Without hesitation, he rolled backward while holding Clark.

"Boom!"

A bullet whizzed through the spot where Mike had been standing just moments before, leaving a dirt-filled crater on the ground.

"Thud, thud!"

Mike's heart raced, the time for action was upon him…

He swiftly carried Clark to a house not far behind them, as bullet after bullet followed them, creating craters in the ground.

Mike's heart turned cold, his killing intent rising.

The bullets had been aimed at Clark!

That damned bastard!

While dodging the attack, Mike quickly scanned the direction of the shots, trying to locate the enemy.

Found him!

It was him!?

Mike was slightly taken aback. He lunged forward with Clark in his arms, bursting into the house. Kicking the door shut behind him, he rolled with Clark on the floor, hiding behind the wall.

"Pop, pop!"

A series of light sounds followed, and holes appeared in the door.

Mike bent down, clutching Clark, and moved into the living room, finding a shooting blind spot behind the wall.

"Dad?"

Clark called softly, his blue eyes full of confusion but no fear.

Mike held Clark tightly, speaking as gently as possible. "Don't be afraid."

"Okay!"

Clark nodded and laid his head against Mike's chest.

Mike took a slow, deep breath, his heart rate gradually slowing, but his gaze grew colder.

The sniper was an Asian man... Special Agent Zero! One of Strucker's men!

"Goddamn it!" Mike muttered under his breath.

He clearly remembered that in the original storyline, Logan wasn't found by Strucker's men until the next morning. So why was he found the same night here?

And why are they targeting Logan but causing trouble for us, a father and son? Were they just trying to set Logan up as a scapegoat, or was it random?

With that thought, Mike couldn't help but curse.

"Dammit!"

"Dad, what does 'dammit' mean?"

"Huh? It's a type of plant."

Mike casually made up an answer.

At that moment, he suddenly heard the sound of helicopter rotors.

Could it be…?

Mike's eyes narrowed, and he quickly grabbed Clark and ran toward the window. As he did, a card appeared in his hand. When he leaped through the window, the card vanished, replaced by a stopwatch.

The next second, two missiles were launched from the helicopter, landing directly on their house.

"Boom, boom!"

Flames and shockwaves swept through the area, roaring as they destroyed everything in their path.

At that moment, Mike pressed the stopwatch. Instantly, he and Clark were enveloped in a golden aura, freezing mid-air as they defied gravity.

The stopwatch, an item from League of Legends, allowed them to become immune to damage for 2.5 seconds, though they couldn't move or attack.

Mike had summoned this life-saving item, which, despite its significant limitations, was absolutely invaluable in certain situations.

The flames and shockwaves, along with flying debris from the house, rushed past them and engulfed the area where they had been.

From a distance, Agent Zero, holding the sniper rifle, watched this unfold. His thin lips curled into a slight smile.

Though he hadn't expected the man to dodge his shots repeatedly, there was no way the two of them could survive such an attack.

"At the end of the day, they're just two ordinary people," Zero muttered, tapping his earpiece. "Alert, the mad dog is coming back."

He knew Logan wasn't in Mike's house anymore, but he didn't care to chase him down. As long as the place was destroyed, Logan, still nearby, would surely return to seek revenge for the father and son.

As a former teammate, Zero understood Logan all too well.

"Ha, idiot," Agent Zero muttered disdainfully.

Meanwhile, Logan, not far off, heard the explosions and quickly turned to look.

The towering flames before him chilled him to the bone, yet his eyes seemed to burn with fury.

He imagined the father and son being consumed by the fire, torn apart in the explosion.

"Ah! I'll kill you!"

Roaring, Logan's eyes turned bloodshot. Like a madman, he spun around and charged back toward the house.

At the same time, after using the stopwatch to avoid the impact, Mike rushed through the fire, carrying Clark, and made it to the basement of their home.

"Clark, stay here and wait for Dad."

Mike spoke in his usual calm tone.

"Dad!"

Clark grabbed Mike's singed sleeve.

Mike turned around and gently patted Clark's head. "Clark, remember, when friends come, we have good wine. When wolves come, we have guns."

Looking at his father, Clark felt a sharp, unfamiliar aura emanating from Mike. Yet, there was no denying that seeing his father like this made Clark feel completely protected, surrounded by a barrier called safety.
