Outside the bar, Logan and Laura walked in silence, the air awkward between them.
Logan kept glancing at her, still trying to wrap his head around the fact that this girl, with her steel-sharp stare and claws like his, was claiming to be his daughter. It felt like a punch to the gut, a reality he hadn't even considered possible.
Finally, Logan stopped and turned to face her, his voice rough. "How? How are you supposed to be my…?" He struggled with the word, not even sure he could say it out loud.
Laura met his gaze and shrugged, seemingly unfazed. "I'd like to know myself. All I know is, Homelander got me out."
The name hit Logan like a slap, and he visibly stiffened, his face twisting into a scowl. "Homelander? You're tellin' me he had a hand in this?"
Laura nodded, not missing the sudden hardness in his expression. "He got me out of that lab. Taught me about the world, showed me how to live. When he told me about you, I didn't know what to expect. I thought… maybe you'd be different." Her eyes lingered on the beer bottle in his hand. "Didn't think you'd be an alcoholic from the start."
Logan's grip on the bottle tightened, the roughness in his voice masking a hint of embarrassment. "Well, I didn't expect a daughter showin' up out of nowhere either," he muttered. "You know what kind of person he is? What he's done?"
"I know he saved me," Laura replied, unfazed. "He told me you'd be skeptical, that you'd probably hate him. But that's not what I came here for."
Logan huffed, forcing down the fire rising within him. "So, he just told you one day that I'm your… father?" he asked, the word awkward and heavy.
Laura nodded. "He told me I was made using your DNA. Said I was more than just a clone."
Her voice grew quieter, almost bitter. "That I was… your daughter, because of the way I was created"
Logan let the words sink in, and for a moment, the weight of them took his breath.
He looked at her, truly looked at her, and saw his own reflection in her eyes—a weary survivor.
Logan clenched his jaw, "Look, kid… I'm no father figure. Never was. Probably never will be. Lookin' for me wasn't your best idea."
Laura's eyes didn't waver.
She seemed unaffected by his gruff response, and instead, a hint of softness appeared in her expression. "I'm Laura," she said quietly, like it was the only thing that mattered right now.
For a moment, Logan just looked at her, feeling something stir that he hadn't expected.
He hesitated, then gave a small nod. "Logan," he replied, his voice a little softer than usual.

Arishem's form loomed vast and unfathomable, his crimson light casting shadows across the endless creation.
He looked at the areival in front of him the intruder to this universe.
His voice, deep and resonant, filled the universe itself, vibrating with the gravity of countless ages and the duty of shaping existence.
"Who stands before me, unfathomable yet unwelcome?" he spoke, his tone neither confrontational nor hostile, but laced with caution.
"You are… not of this order, yet I sense an ancient echo within you."

The figure hovered before him, a presence that seemed neither tethered nor bound to any one dimension, cloaked in an aura that inverted Arishem's own nature.
Four golden orbs gleamed from its head, steady and unblinking, staring into Arishem as though it recognized him on a level he himself could not grasp.
"Arishem…" the being intoned, almost as if the name itself was an incantation.
Arishem felt a prickle of alarm rise within him, though he betrayed no hesitation. "If you possess such knowledge, then you know I am no enemy to you," he said, a solemnity infusing his words. "All creation lies within my vigilance; I am the hand that shapes, the light that brings forth the dawn of life. I ask only that you state your intent, so that we may discern the nature of this… trespass."
The being regarded him in silence, its golden orbs narrowing. "Purpose," it murmured, its voice dark and sonorous
"A thing constructed, a thing deluded."
"Yet all must live by it, Unfortunately mine stands above yours"
Arishem's eyes glowed, a momentary surge of power bracing his colossal form. "Such words," he replied, his voice resonant with the weight of his duty, "belong to those who misunderstand the universe's design. You are a deviation in its order."
A flicker of what could only be called amusement crossed the figure's aura.
Then, without another word, it extended a hand, and energy beams shot forward the space around Arishem twisted.
In an instant, his awareness fractured, his vision split as an unimaginable force sliced through him, cutting him into four perfect sections.
As his pieces drifted apart, Arishem's mind strained to comprehend the power that had undone him so effortlessly.
The consciousness of the celestial fading each second.
The four golden orbs glared at him even if the being had long faded into darknes.
---
In the quiet, shadowed streets of New Orleans, Charys—reborn as Rebecca—felt an ominous pulse echo through her core.
A chill traced her spine as she realized the unmistakable truth: he was here.
The one they called K, the one sent to end her.
Every instinct screamed for her to run, but she had prepared for this moment, doing everything in her power to diminish her presence.
Months of meticulously honing her energy, reducing her presence by millions, casting protective wards—every precaution she could imagine had been taken.
And yet, the icy grip of fear gnawed at her confidence.
She couldn't shake the sense that this wouldn't be enough.
K wasn't like the other children he was the first one and the strongest one.
Her breaths were shallow as she pressed herself deeper into the dark recess of an alley, knowing well that hiding would only stall the inevitable without Homelander the being made by the universe supporting her.
---
Homelander stood on the burning surface of the sun, the scorching flares swirling around him like mere wisps in a breeze.
His eyes narrowed, irritation flickering across his face as he scanned the expanse of space, yet finding nothing.
Despite his unparalleled senses, the intruder eluded him—a shadow in his universe, taunting him from the edges of his awareness.
Frustrated, he clenched his fists, the heat of his grip intensifying until the surrounding solar fire seemed to bend to his will.
This uninvited presence was here for Charys, he knew that much.
And if they thought they could slip into his universe without consequence, they were sorely mistaken.
With a single resolute motion, Homelander drew from the core of his power, casting an invisible barrier around the entire solar system.
It stretched out, spanning planets and moons, an unseen web of energy locking the intruder within.
There would be no slipping past him now.
Whoever dared to hide in his realm would have to face him.
Satisfied, he smirked, speaking to the void as though the intruder could hear him. "Let's see how long you can hide now."
