Chapter 46: X-Men
Las Vegas.
Inside a bustling club, Charles and Eric lounged side by side on a bed, surrounded by an air of opulence.
A stunning, scantily clad woman walked in. Her hips swaying and her expression oozing with allure. "Two people? This requires more money!" she declared, eyeing Eric and Charles skeptically.
"Money? Is it this?" Eric nonchalantly waved his hand, coins swirling through the air as if on command.
"Wow! Cool!" The woman's eyes sparkled with fascination as the coins danced.
Eric's display impressed her, and she began to undress. Dragonfly wings unfurled from her back, and with a graceful "swish," she soared into the air. "My name is Dragonfly! I thought... I'm the only one."
"No, you are not alone!" Charles reassured her, projecting his voice directly into Dragonfly's mind. Smiling warmly, he said, "Welcome home, Dragonfly!"
"It's... it's amazing!" Dragonfly exclaimed, tears of joy streaming down her face.
....
In a run-down room in Old Brooklyn, a masked young man entered through the door.
"The days when I can't speak are really tragic!" He complained, removing his mask and tearing tape from his mouth with a wince.
"Boom!"
A powerful sound wave erupted, shattering the table and debris in its path.
"Oh, damn it! Here again!" The young man sighed, frustrated at his lack of control.
"It's just that you didn't control your power. You have to learn to control, not to escape!" A voice echoed behind him.
"Who!" The young man spun around in shock.
Another sound wave roared out, causing the young man to cringe in pain. He understood the destructive potential of his ability; a direct hit could shatter internal organs.
"It's not that easy to kill me!" Alex smirked, activating his "Energy Absorption" ability, dissipating the sound wave's energy in an instant.
"Eh? You... you..." The young man stared, bewildered by the man and woman now standing before him. Then, his gaze settled on Raven, her skin transformed into a striking shade of blue.
"As you can see, Sonic, you are not alone!" Alex declared, offering a reassuring smile.
Alex beamed and extended his arms towards "Sonic," exclaiming, "My name is Alex, and this is Raven, my girlfriend! We've got a bunch of companions waiting for you. Welcome home, Sonic!"
"Companion... That's awesome!"
"Sonic" enthusiastically shook Alex's hand.
.....
"Here's Dragonfly! This is Alex, this is Darwin, this is Sound Waves, and this is..."
In the underground station, everyone converged as Charles introduced the new companions to the group, courtesy of Alex's assistance.
Alongside the Mutants from the original storyline, Charles had discovered a dozen more thanks to Alex's aid.
"Welcome home, everyone!"
The atmosphere buzzed with music and drinks, marking the beginning of a lively celebration in honor of the newfound companions.
"Alex, I spotted someone rather peculiar."
Charles raised his glass, approached Alex, tapped him on the shoulder, and said with a hint of dismay, "I found him in a bar with Eric. He's... a very dangerous individual. I can only sense cruelty and destruction emanating from his heart, like a brutal beast."
"And then?"
Alex, wearing a knowing smile, looked at Charles, well aware of whom he was referring to—none other than Wolverine.
Wolverine! A beloved character from a past life, and now, though no longer portrayed as Wolverine, seeing the real person compensated for that regret.
"Then..." Alex chuckled, anticipating Charles's classic response.
Charles shook his head with a wry smile and explained, "I told him we're companions, of the same kind. His direct response was 'Fuck off!' "
"Hahaha!" Alex burst into laughter, confirming his suspicions. Classic Wolverine!
"I know who he is. He goes by Logan, a guy who's lived for centuries, from World War I to today, even participating in World War II. He's indestructible but seeks death, a perpetual self-destructive force."
Alex took a sip of his wine and shared the insight with Charles.
"Alex, he's dangerous! It's a risk for everyone if we leave him out there."
Charles glanced at Alex, expressing his concern. "Can you... bring him back?"
"Can't you do it easily yourself? Mind control, just bring him back!"
Alex, now suspicious, set down his wine glass and scrutinized Charles. "You and Eric can easily fetch him, can't you?"
"It's easy to bring him back, but... it'll breed resentment. I believe the best way to reach Logan is through understanding, unfortunately, neither Eric nor I excel in the art of brawling." Charles sighed with a sense of helplessness.
