Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Eastern Magic
Every time Lance tried to change the rhythm of his attacks, Kaecilius appeared calm and focused, as if unleashing all his anger and despair in this fight.
Attack after attack, blow after blow, the battle unfolded hundreds of times in the blink of an eye. Lance felt his tension rising, his body beginning to lose energy, and slowly but surely, he sensed that his attacks were no longer as effective as before.
Feeling overwhelmed, Lance knew he had to find another way to confront Kaecilius before it was too late.
Lance shook his magical fan to block the floating hooks and scythes. Quickly, he spun his body to reduce most of the force of the attack.
At the same time, Lance held a talisman in his other hand and immediately shot it toward Kaecilius.
"Immobilization Talisman!"
The talisman was very useful for ordinary people, but it had little effect on high-level sorcerers. However, all Lance needed was one opportunity.
Sure enough! Kaecilius drew his hooks and scythe to block the talisman, but the talisman arced and stuck to his arm.
Even a prominent Sorcerer like Kaecilius was forced to pause for a moment under the influence of the 'Immobilization Talisman.'
At that moment, Lance produced another talisman.
"Fire Cloud Talisman!"
The talisman immediately ascended into the air, transforming into a fireball, and fell rapidly.
"Booom!"
Flames engulfed Kaecilius, but he managed to break free from the 'Immobilization Talisman' just in time. Kaecilius jumped back, knelt on one knee, rolled forward, and stood up.
However, before Kaecilius could launch a counterattack, lightning struck his body, enveloping his head and face.
"Five Thunder Talisman!"
This talisman was the most destructive among many others, far more powerful than the 'Fire Cloud Talisman' and 'Black Ice Talisman.'
At this moment, Kaecilius demonstrated his abilities as a Master Sorcerer. He quickly brought his hands together, and a complex magic formation appeared, vanishing in the blink of an eye.
Lines shimmering with magical energy intertwined, forming a perfect defensive structure in an instant.
"The strongest defense in white magic—protect me, Shield of the Seraphim!" Kaecilius recited his spell firmly.
"Wow!"
The tremendous thunder was perfectly blocked by the shield!
"You are indeed skilled in using Eastern Magic, but if you wish to compare it to the White Magic of the Vishanti, you are still far behind," Kaecilius spoke seriously.
The Master Sorcerer, who had forcibly chanted a high-level spell, was finally out of breath, yet Kaecilius continued to preach expressionlessly.
"I don't think there's anything wrong with that," Lance replied with a shrug.
Seeing that Kaecilius seemed to be calming down, Lance stood and responded with a disagreeing tone, "At least it won't affect my life, and it will ensure my longevity."
It must be acknowledged that Heaven in the Marvel Universe is relatively rarely depicted in a traditional form, unlike in some other mythologies. There is no group of Five Cosmic Entities, or Twelve Ancestor Sorcerers in power.
As the head of magical entities, the Emperor of Heaven, despite possessing great power, is only comparable to entities like the Vishanti, who are behind the Sorcerer Supreme of Kamar-Taj.
In terms of power, the demon gods are still far below the highest cosmic entities that govern the Marvel universe.
However, Eastern Magic has many benefits as well. For instance, Eastern magic emphasizes the development of life and the soul. When practicing spells, this magic also strengthens the self, so there is no need to study magic theory as rigorously as Western Sorcerers. You also do not have to rely on Demon Gods. The physical resilience gained from Eastern Magic is indeed stronger, although there are some not-so-good side effects.
Kaecilius fell silent for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Have you ever encountered problems like this while at Kamar-Taj? The Ancient One understands higher powers but refuses to share them with us."
Lance was taken aback by the question.
Are the 'Zealots' starting to suspect the Ancient One now?
By the way, Kaecilius betrayed the Ancient One and sought refuge in the embrace of the ruler of the dark dimension not out of a pursuit of power, authority, or so-called immortality, but because of immense pain and despair.
Kaecilius was initially just an ordinary man with a happy family—a beloved wife and a handsome son. However, Kaecilius's son died first in an accident, and then his wife followed due to a serious illness.
Kaecilius witnessed both of his close relatives die in a hospital bed. His belief in life completely collapsed, and from that moment on, Kaecilius lived a life of self-destruction. Until one day, Kaecilius met Mordo.
Mordo explained the extraordinary powers possessed by the Ancient One. With little hope left, Kaecilius went to Kamar-Taj to learn the art of magic.
In six months, Kaecilius managed to become a Master Sorcerer. However, Kaecilius soon realized that all the magical knowledge he had learned could not bring back his deceased wife and son, nor could it provide the inner peace that Kaecilius had been seeking.
Although the Ancient One had the ability to do so, the Ancient One refused to help Kaecilius and only provided teachings of wisdom to strengthen the soul.
In the end, Kaecilius embarked on an irreversible path.
The Ancient One's decision was clearly not a mistake. Reversing time could indeed bring the dead back to life, but the price to pay is extremely high. In the comics, Doctor Strange once did something similar—using forbidden time magic to resurrect the dead.
The resurrection of a city destroyed in battle disrupted the relationship between the material world and Hell. Mephisto, who should only be able to dominate in Hell, established a Small Hell on Earth and turned most Superheroes into Ghosts.
Doctor Strange's failure nearly led to the total destruction of the human world. The Ancient One, who is always cautious, would certainly not make such a foolish mistake.
While at Kamar-Taj, Lance had a good relationship with Kaecilius. Lance often tried to comfort him with light-hearted banter. However, Kaecilius's obsession with bringing back his wife and son had become too deep. Gentle words could not sway Kaecilius's intentions.
