Chapter 4: The Start of a Dazzling Tale
Thirteen days had passed since the grueling entrance exams for UA High, and the vibrant city of Musutafu continued its restless pace. Under a night sky adorned with countless stars, Trafalgar Law perched atop a towering building, his posture reminiscent of a spider observing its web. The cool breeze of the summer night played with the loose strands of his black hair, peeking out from beneath his signature white-and-black patterned woolen cap.
Law's outfit was as striking as his presence. A yellow-and-black, intricately designed t-shirt hugged his lean frame, its bold pattern resembling the insignia of a pirate's flag. A pair of light blue, faded jeans completed his look, their worn fabric testament to countless adventures. His gray eyes, calm and calculating, scanned the bustling streets below, illuminated by a symphony of neon lights and the flashing sirens of police cars.
Down on the streets, chaos reigned. The wailing of police sirens blended with the roar of engines as a fleet of patrol cars and professional heroes pursued a notorious gang of bank robbers. The robbers' getaway vehicle weaved recklessly through the streets, leaving a trail of scattered banknotes fluttering in the air. From his high vantage point, Law watched the scene unfold, his gaze unflinching.
"This isn't a good idea. You should back off immediately," echoed a calm yet stern voice in his mind. It was the system, an AI companion tethered to him ever since he woke up in this strange new world.
Law smirked faintly, his voice low and nonchalant. "I've had enough of waiting for those exam results. I need some entertainment. Besides, as long as they don't see my face, it'll be fine."
The system hesitated before replying, its tone tinged with a faint warning. "You'll have to bear the consequences of your actions from now on."
Law sighed and stood, his movements fluid and deliberate. Walking along the narrow edge of the rooftop, he peered down at the speeding chase below. "You're an annoying AI, you know that? But I'm starting to get used to you." With that, he leapt from the building, the wind roaring past him as he plummeted toward the street.
His clothes fluttered violently in the wind, the patterned t-shirt and cap making him a streak of yellow and black against the night sky. Down below, the robbers laughed maniacally in their speeding car. One of them, seated at the rear, leaned out of the window, his voice dripping with arrogance.
"No way those so-called 'heroes' catch us! They're not even in the top 100—what a joke!"
His laughter was cut short as a shadow loomed above. Startled, he glanced upward to see a young man descending rapidly, his silhouette outlined against the stars.
"Room."
The word rang out like a declaration of intent, a faint blue sphere enveloping the area in an instant. The driver's eyes widened, his mind racing in the critical seconds that followed. What the hell? Is this guy suicidal, or just insane?
"Shambles."
With a sudden flash, the robbers' car vanished, leaving behind a cloud of confusion and scattered cash. The gang members found themselves hurled to the ground, their bodies skidding across the asphalt due to the inertia of their high-speed escape. Groaning and bruised, they lay sprawled on the street, too disoriented to move.
The police and heroes surrounded them in seconds, their vehicles screeching to a halt. Officers spilled out, their faces a mix of relief and bewilderment as they took in the scene. The gang, now incapacitated, was missing their vehicle—but the car itself was found a block away, parked neatly as if by some ghostly hand. Whispers of confusion spread among the officers and heroes alike.
"Where's the car?"
"How did they get thrown out like this?"
"What kind of Quirk could do that?"
Above them all, Law stood once again atop the building he had leapt from. The faint breeze tugged at his clothes as he watched the scene below unfold with a quiet satisfaction. The system's voice returned, tinged with disapproval. "You're taking far too many risks. One second's delay, and you would've been splattered across the pavement."
Law chuckled softly, his hand adjusting the brim of his cap. "Relax. That was just a warm-up."
His gray eyes scanned the flurry of activity below as the officers began collecting evidence. Heroes were questioning the gang members, still struggling to understand what had transpired. Satisfied with the chaos he had orchestrated, Law turned and began to stroll across the rooftop, his boots clicking softly against the concrete. The stars above twinkled faintly, and a crescent moon cast its pale glow over the city. The distant hum of traffic mixed with the whispers of the night wind.
"By the way, System," he began, his tone casual, "don't you think you're a bit too friendly? I've read fanfiction where the system is usually the hero's worst enemy."
The system replied, its tone devoid of amusement. "Our goal is to provide optimal support and guidance. However, your story remains yours to shape. You are free to end up in prison—or dead—if you so choose."
Law smirked, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Suicide? Boring. Painful. Who'd do that when I've got such a flashy ability?"
He halted abruptly, the faint vibration of his phone cutting through the silence. Pulling it from his pocket, he glanced at the screen. A message from UA High had arrived, its contents confirming his acceptance into the Hero Course. The notification included his classroom details and instructions for collecting his uniform and hero costume.
Law's lips curled into a rare smile as he muttered, "Took you long enough. I was dying of boredom."
The distant sounds of sirens and city life reached his ears as he slipped the phone back into his pocket. Standing under the vast expanse of the starlit sky, Law looked down at the city he had begun to toy with. The winds carried a sense of promise, a prelude to the chaos he was about to unleash.
"Let the show begin," he murmured, turning his back on the scene below.
