Mushoku Tensei: The Fool Magician

Chapter 13: MT - 13 Useless AI

After finishing her morning routine and a quick breakfast, Roxy took a deep breath by the doorway. Mornings were her domain to manage, and today, Sylphy had arrived early.

The adorable, innocent little girl had few friends in the village. Thankfully, Roy had discovered her plight early—otherwise, she might have remained a lonely stray, vulnerable to bullying.

Thanks to Roy's intentional matchmaking, Sylphy enjoyed spending time with Rudeus, which conveniently set his dim-witted little brother on the path of nurturing a childhood sweetheart.

Roxy, well-traveled and knowledgeable, often spoke about the many kingdoms she had visited. She shared stories of her homeland on the Demon Continent—a place fraught with harsh environments and dangerous monsters. When she came to the Asura Kingdom, she couldn't help but admire its fertile lands and fortunate inhabitants.

That morning, Roxy began explaining the principles of magic formation and the origins of mana. Finally, she moved on to teaching advanced spells.

To her astonishment, Roy mastered the magic after only a few tries. Even Rudeus and Sylphy, after hours of training, could barely manage to cast the spell.

Forcing a smile, Roxy muttered under her breath, "At this rate, it won't be long before you all surpass me."

Roy exchanged a glance with Rudeus. It was clear to both of them that their talents were unintentionally dealing a massive blow to their teacher's confidence.

Still, there was little Roy could do. He silently cursed his absurdly gifted aptitude for magic.

To console her, he said, "Don't worry, Roxy-sensei. Rudeus is a complete idiot. You'll be teaching us for a long time yet."

"???"

Rudeus looked at his brother in disbelief.

After their morning practice session, Sylphy stayed for lunch. By noon, Roy retreated for his usual midday nap.

Roxy, however, wasn't one to nap. She went out to assist the local farmers by casting rain spells on their fields.

With some free time, Roy decided to check on his other self from another world.

Playing video games.

Roy frowned in disbelief. Was his AI-controlled counterpart seriously just gaming all day?

Care to explain why you're playing games instead of working?

"Roy-nii, what are you playing?" Asked a curious four-year-old Kirigaya Kazuto as he peeked at the screen. The game was a bloody and violent zombie shooter.

Roy Kirigaya considered the question for a moment before scooping up Kazuto and plopping him down next to him. On the screen, a grizzled middle-aged man wielding a gun was shooting zombies, clearing a path with precision headshots.

"Whoa, Roy-nii, you're amazing!" Kazuto's eyes sparkled with admiration as he watched his older brother effortlessly obliterate the undead.

Roy's deep, steady voice replied, "Do you want to try, Kirito?"

Kazuto tilted his head, wondering why his brother had called him that, but he nodded enthusiastically. "I do!"

And so, the two brothers spent their day at home playing video games.

Meanwhile, in the Mushoku Tensei world, Roy was fuming. "Damn it! What kind of slacker AI is this?"

"How am I supposed to have a bright future if you're goofing off like this?"

Roy muttered bitterly, "Fine, if you're going to slack off, I will too. Let's all just slack off. We'll wait for some dragon god to show up, give a dramatic speech, and then die together."

He thought for a moment, then sent a command to his other self.

"Go study."

Still gaming.

Apparently, the AI couldn't be assigned tasks—it just did whatever it pleased.

Roy sighed in frustration. "You think I'd play games all night, huh? Do you take me for that kind of person? At least I'd take a nap before gaming again!"

Closing his eyes, Roy decided to let his anger simmer in his dreams.

By afternoon, Paul's swordsmanship lesson began.

"Idiot! That's a 'Hngh-step forward and swoosh-swing down,' not a 'Hah-step forward and thunk-swing down!' Be lighter on your feet!" Paul barked at Rudeus.

Rudeus looked utterly lost. "What does that even mean? 'Hngh' versus 'Hah'? Are you seriously making this up as you go?"

Paul scowled, clearly displeased. He pointed to Roy, who had just split a boulder clean in two. "Then why can your brother do it?"

"You—you can't seriously blame me for this, right? You know how talented Nii-san is! And wasn't it you who taught him? His skill is natural talent!" Rudeus retorted, clearly refusing to back down.

Paul let out an exaggerated sigh, massaging his temples as if he'd just realized something profound. "Ah, so that's it. Your talent just isn't enough, huh?"

Rudeus's face turned beet red. He opened his mouth to counter, but no words came out. Because, unfortunately, Paul's comment wasn't entirely wrong.

"Fine, fine, it's all my fault." Rudeus thought to himself, feeling a mix of frustration and resignation.

Catching sight of Roy, who stood nearby with an amused smirk, Rudeus decided it was time to shift the focus. "Nii-san, say something, will you? Look at how smug Paul is acting!"

"Excuse me?" Paul raised an eyebrow, offended. "Did you just call your father by name? You're asking for it!" Without further warning, he grabbed a wooden sword and began swatting at Rudeus, who yelped and scrambled to avoid the strikes.

Roy sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Two idiots." He muttered under his breath.

Once Rudeus had been thoroughly chastised, Paul turned his attention to Roy. "Now then, let's see how much you've grown." He said, his tone more serious.

A sparring session was inevitable. Paul often used himself as a sparring partner to gauge progress and push their limits.

Roy stepped forward without hesitation, taking a deep breath and raising his wooden sword in front of him. Paul mirrored the stance, his muscular arms steady and his hands calloused from years of practice.

With a shared nod of acknowledgment, the two launched their attacks simultaneously.

Their movements were nearly identical, both employing the Sword God Style's opening technique. Their strikes collided mid-air with a sharp crack that echoed through the training ground.

Paul's eyes widened slightly in surprise. Roy had managed to meet his strike head-on, something he hadn't anticipated. Applying more force, Paul pushed against Roy's blade.

But Roy's eyes narrowed in concentration as a faint glimmer of mana began coursing through his body. In an instant, the boy's once-slender frame bulged with muscle, his mana amplifying his physical strength.

With a deep breath, Roy gripped his wooden sword tightly and surged forward, pushing Paul's blade back with raw, overwhelming power.

From the sidelines, Rudeus and Roxy stared in shock. Roy's transformation was almost comical—his petite frame now sported muscles so exaggerated that it looked like a child had been swapped with a miniature bodybuilder.

"This is… unsettling." Roxy muttered, her lips twitching.

"Yeah." Rudeus agreed, his expression mirroring hers.

Even Paul hesitated for a moment, startled by Roy's sudden change. But Roy wasn't done. With a swift motion, his sword whistled through the air, striking with incredible speed. In the blink of an eye, the tip of Roy's blade was right in front of Paul.

Paul reacted instantly, blocking the strike with a horizontal parry. He then reached out with his free hand, grabbing Roy's sword arm. Before Roy could react, Paul spun, using his momentum to lift Roy off the ground and slam him into the dirt with a clean over-the-shoulder throw.

Roy yelped in pain, clutching his bruised backside as he sat up. "You cheated!" He yelled indignantly. "We agreed to a swordfight—why are you using grappling moves?"

Paul scratched the back of his head, a faint blush creeping onto his face. "Well… that's actually part of the Water God Style. It's a counterattack technique." He stammered.

Even Paul seemed a bit rattled by the exchange. In his mind, he couldn't help but marvel at Roy's rapid progress.

This kid's only been training for two years, and he's already pushing me to use a second sword style…
