Chapter 36: The Melody Of Heaven (song chapter)
As Kikidori landed at the pearly gates, the golden glow of Heaven's skies washed over him. The soft hum of an otherworldly melody hung in the air, the kind that made even him pause, though he'd never admit it aloud. He adjusted his coat, muttering under his breath.
"I don't even know why I agreed to this…"
Before he could finish complaining, Ere'ana appeared, her white robes flowing like sunlight itself. Without a word, she grabbed his wrist, her grip surprisingly firm for someone so gentle.
"Oi, what—?" Kikidori started, but Ere'ana silenced him with a playful smile.
"We're doing this my way," she said, her voice carrying an air of mischief.
And then it began.
Ere'ana twirled around, her voice rising like a gentle breeze, carrying words that seemed to flow effortlessly.
Ere'ana:
"Welcome to the skies above,
A realm of light, a realm of love,
Where golden streams and winds embrace,
Welcome, Kiki, to this sacred place."
Kikidori groaned, his wings twitching. "Are we really singing? This is so—"
But before he could finish, Ere'ana tugged him forward, and the scenery seemed to shift with her song. The golden clouds around them shimmered, forming a pathway of light.
Ere'ana:
"Over here, the gardens bloom,
Fragrant flowers chase away the gloom,
Each petal sings its own sweet tune,
Beneath the sun, beneath the moon."
She gestured to a field of radiant flowers, their petals glowing faintly. Kikidori raised an eyebrow, his lips twitching into a reluctant smirk.
Kikidori (grudgingly joining in):
"Alright, fine, this place is nice,
But don't expect me to play nice twice,
It's too bright, it's too clean,
Where's the chaos? Where's the scene?"
Ere'ana laughed, spinning around as she led him to a crystalline lake. The water sparkled with every color imaginable, reflecting the skies above.
Ere'ana:
"Here's the lake of endless hues,
A mirror to the skies, where dreams ensue,
Dip your hand, feel its grace,
A fragment of Heaven's warm embrace."
Kikidori crouched by the lake, his reflection staring back at him. For a moment, his hardened expression softened.
Kikidori:
"I'll admit, it's not so bad,
But it's not my style, too grand, too glad,
Where's the edge? The bite, the sting?
Heaven's missing its wild, fiery wings."
Ere'ana rolled her eyes but didn't stop singing, pulling him toward a towering cathedral made of light itself.
Ere'ana:
"Here's where the angels sing and pray,
Harmony echoing every day,
A symphony of hope and peace,
A melody that will never cease."
She opened the cathedral doors, and the sound of angelic choirs poured out, filling the air with a harmony so perfect that it made Kikidori wince.
Kikidori:
"Too loud, too sweet, it's not my thing,
I prefer a lute or a darker string,
But I'll give you this—it's got some charm,
Still, I'd trade it for a little harm."
Ere'ana smirked, grabbing his wrist again and pulling him toward the golden lake where they'd watched the golden hour before. She spun around, her voice rising triumphantly.
Ere'ana:
"And here's where Heaven meets the soul,
A place where broken hearts grow whole,
Kiki, can't you see, this place could be,
A little brighter with you and me."
For a moment, Kikidori stood silently, looking out at the golden lake. The light reflected in his eyes, and though he wouldn't admit it, there was a flicker of something—peace, perhaps.
But of course, Kikidori couldn't resist adding his own flair.
Kikidori:
"Alright, you win, it's got its perks,
But don't think this means I'll stay—it irks,
This place is yours, but Flame Island's mine,
Still… maybe I'll visit, from time to time."
Ere'ana laughed, her voice ringing like a bell. She leaned closer to him, her hand still holding his wrist.
Ere'ana (softly):
"That's all I ask, a visit or two,
Because Heaven feels empty without you."
The song faded, the melody lingering in the air like a gentle echo. Kikidori sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"You really don't know how to quit, do you?" he muttered.
Ere'ana just smiled, her eyes full of light.
