My Enigmatic Life

The Good News

(Akai's POV)

The group of us are spending one of our days off at a karaoke place. Yoko-san, Haruhi-chan, Daisuke and Naoya just finished singing a Maximium The Hormone song, and now my sister wants to give it a try.

"Alright, now it's my turn!"

"I don't think they allow puppies to use the mic."

Arianne genially teases her, which earns her a brief, but strong raspberry.

"Oi, where are you going, Govvy?"

Naoya calls out to Daisuke, who horses down the remaining amount of his fruit milk, and begins to leave.

"Ah, I'm heading to Hisakawa Temple for today's lesson. This was fun, so we ought to do this again soon."

To no surprise, my imouto is the first to protest.

"Haa?! Why are you going there on your day off?! Can't that home-wrecker go a day without a lesson?!"

"Don't be like that, Red.", Daisuke admonishes. "Friends should always be willing to help each other, you know?"

Gege then joins the conversation.

"You don't get paid to do the lessons anymore, right?"

"Nope. I told Mrs.Hisakawa to stop after we became official."

As per usual, Daisuke is rather generous. It's one of the things that I admire about him the most, and I'm sure that his girls love that side of him as well. But right now, I don't think they like who that generosity is being directed to.

"But why are you leaving so early? You usually do head out until around three or so."

Yoko-san asks this, a hint of suspicion raising in her voice. But Daisuke simply grins at her broadly, he looks a little scary when does that...

"I'm going to be collecting Take from school today. Mrs.Hisakawa will be busy with something and Shizuku-san won't be leaving college until around four."

I guess that Daisuke feels like a real big brother by doing something like that.

"Well, have a good time with the lesson, buddy!", I say refreshingly.

"I'll try my best. You all enjoy yourselves and tell me what happened later."

With that, Daisuke leaves.

"I can't help but-"

Naoya begins to say something, but he's interrupted by Daisuke's sudden return. Daisuke walks over to his harem and promptly plops a kiss on each of their cheek's.

"Right, now I'm off."

For real this time, Daisuke departs, leaving his girls with satisfied smiles.

"As I was saying, I can't help but be surprised by how quickly Daisuke and this Take lad have formed a good rapport."

"Well, Govvy has always been good with children.", Arianne says proudly. "It's probably because he's pretty childish himself."

"Aniki will definitely a be good father! I can tell!"

"That's all well and good, but what if it's a trick by Hisakawa-san to get her in his good graces?"

Gege devilishly offers a frightening suggestion.

"Kukuku! L-like that'll work! Daisuke-nii only f-f-falls for girls that he feels a special bond for!"

"You don't sound confident, Akane."

"Be quiet, Onii-chan! I s-sound very confident!"

"Don't mind them, Akane. They keep saying things like that because they're jealous."

Arianne-san's words hit deep, causing the three of us to slump our shoulders in defeat.

"I saw Nii-chan doing research on how to get a girlfriend yesterday. It was totes embarrassing."

"Haruhi?! Why the hell are you saying that to everyone?!", Gege shouts, clearly agitated.

Haruhi-chan doesn't reply, instead she smiles mischieviously and sips on her apple juice.

"It's so unfair that Govvy gets to keep Arianne by his side whilst Thelka has gone and left me..."

Naoya mutters lowly, his spirits clearly dampened by thoughts of this Thelka girl.

"Ah, you mean that German girl? She was really nice.", Yoko-san says reminisciently. "I wonder how she's doing now?"

"Surely she's grown into a beauty...I would love to see her again. There might be a chance that her love is for me still blooms like a flower kissed by the sunlight..."

"Since when have you taken up poetry?", Gege remarks.

"Ahahaha! You better be careful not to say something like that around Shirogane-senpai, Naoya."

"Eh? Why not?"

"Oh, no reason, I'm just joking.", I lie, smiling wryly.

Naoya might be worse than Daisuke when it comes down to being oblivious. It'll be best if I drop what I said and leave it to Shirogane-senpai to say herself.

It's always good to have tact. That's what kaa-san says.

DING-DING DING-DING DING-DING

Gege's phone begins to ring, so he swiftly takes it from his pocket and answers it.

"Hey, tou-chan, what's going on? Hmm, put you on speakerphone? Okay."

Gege does as he's told and puts his phone on loud speaker allowing all of us to hear Commissioner Watanabe.

"Good day, young people, are all of you present and accounted for?"

"No, sir. Aniki just leave for his part-time job."

"Ah, that's a shame. I was hoping to tell you this while you were all together.."

Huh? Is it something serious? Do we have to head to work? No, he doesn't sound like it's something like that.

"What is it, tou-chan?", Haruhi-chan asks curiously.

"Congratulations, the Dawn Wolves have been promoted to Blue Rank!"

Our reactions overlap with each other.

"WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT?!?!?!?!?!"

"That's about the reaction I expected.", Commissioner Watanabe chuckles.

Unanimously, we inspect our Enigma IDs. And sure enough, they're all blue! My name's still in green though...

"You all are proving to be impressive, but remember that things will only get more dangerous from here.", Commissioner Watanabe says firmly. "But I have faith in you all. Remember: Work hard, rest well and stay alive."

"Yes, sir!"

With those final words, Commissioner Watanabe hangs up, leaving us to fully grasp the situation.

We...We really are getting stronger!
