My Enigmatic Life

   Having just completed another mission, Hattori Jin saunters down the corridor, clearly caught up in his own thoughts.

(Nothing. That’s another place we’ve searched and yet we haven’t garnered any more information. Is that damned orb even real? Is it just some folktale?)

“Yo, Hattori! Welcome back!”

The one who greets him so energetically is the golden haired Hanayama. As per usual, his reaction to this is dismissive.

“Don’t bother me, Hanayama, I’m busy.”

“Busy with what? Walking? Come on, show some excitement! I heard that there’s going to be some thrilling news tonight!”

“The only news that’ll be thrilling is that you’ve been fired.”, Hattori says coldly.

“Awwww, how harsh!”, Hanayama remarks, smiling playfully. “Maybe you’d be more friendly if I was Sayaka? Too bad she’s setting things up for the news to reveal!”

Hattori ignores him and continues walking down the hallway towards the congregation room. Hanayama chuckles and follows a few steps behind. 

    Within a few minutes, the room is filled up with about two hundred or so people. Shade, alongside his two strongest men, is in the back of the room, sitting up high above the others.

“Sayaka, you may begin.”, he drawls.

A petite girl with a bob cut wearing a black one piece dress nods. She gestures to a photograph of a young man with unkempt, somewhat curly hickory black hair and lifeless looking eyes.

“Yes, Master Shade. As you know, two months ago an incident took place in which an unknown boy defeated the infamous Saito Hyo in a duel, earning our attention. Since then, he’s been involved with the death of Kenny and the arrest of Ariyama.”

Hattori scowls deeply. The last thing he wanted to hear about was the nobody that evaded their grasp not once, but twice. Nonetheless, he continues to listen intently.

Hanayama, on the other hand, yawns loudly. To him, this is just old news.

“Two days ago, I was sent to observe the movements of what was a supposed up-and-coming gang to see if they would be a threat to us. They were promptly detained by an Enigma Squadron.”

“So much for that.”, Hanayama snorts.

Even Hattori smiles in amusement at the thought of their pathetic display. But what comes next shifts the mood drastically.

“As I was about to leave I noticed something that left me shocked, so shocked that I had to capture a photo to show it to all of you.”

The photo displayed on the big screen changes, and a clamour breaks out in the room.

“Eh?! For real?!”, Hanayama yells, mouth agape.

“How amusing…”, Hattori mutters, smiling evilly.

Shade stares at the screen, his visage impossible to read.

“Seems like he really is our enemy now, doesn’t it?”

The young man from earlier is standing by one of the apprehended criminals, clad in a uniform belonging to those a part of the Enigmatic Society.
