My Slime Girlfriends

Chapter 5: The Dog(Girl) And The Bird

Hannah had her sword drawn, staring into the eyes of the flying beast. It had crimson eyes and a yellow body with a myriad of feathers that radiated hot air. She knew that she would have to fight this monster but she was still worried about Lily and what had just happened to her, but for now, she had to protect her friend and herself. Hannah had her slightly tarnished steel blade was in her hand dully reflecting the sun. It was a bit worn but still sharp as she took care of it as best she could.

She was terrified. She knew that the creature was stronger than her and that she definitely could not take it down alone. What choice did she have? She needed to kill it or run. She quickly turned around and ran as fast as she could to avoid the bird, but the bird had much better speed than she did and caught up with her easily.

The bird swung its talons downward to attack Hannah but she quickly flipped around and held the blade of her sword up with both hands to block the claws. After parrying successfully she swung her sword at the leg of the bird, managing to slice all the way to the bone before she drew her sword back to prepare for the next attack.  She didn't have to wait long as the bird flapped its wings back sending feathers flying in her direction. She managed to block a few but many left scratches and gashes on her body while others were still stuck inside her.

"Ahh!" she wailed in pain getting ready for the next attack. She decided that it would be a better idea to keep the feathers inside, if she were to remove them she would probably die faster from blood loss. She was honestly terrified of dying she didn't know how she could possibly survive.

Bracing for the next attack she jumped to hide behind a tree and kept watch at all angles the bird could come from. Suddenly the bird flew from her left and she swung managing to incapacitate one of its wings. This is what she was aiming for as the bird could no longer fly or attack with that wing, meaning it was effectively grounded.

The bird screeched as it dropped face-first into the ground from the incapacitation of yet another limb. It was getting enraged as it realized that its life might actually be at risk. The bird could hardly walk due to one of its legs not working, so its only resource was magic, knowing that Hannah quickly rotated herself around the trunk of the tree as feathers whizzed by almost hitting her.

Hannah now realized that she would have to get rid of the feathers wounding her. If she didn't get rid of them then she would not have enough mobility to get close enough to the monster to attack it. However, removing the feathers meant that she would lose blood and her running around and accelerated heart rate would mean that she would lose blood much faster than normal. She could either sit and die or fight for a chance to live.

She pulled out the feather on her right shoulder wailing in pain and grinding her teeth, then the one on her leg, hand, her back, and chest. Soon she had no feathers left to remove but was certainly losing a significant amount of blood. She steadied her breath and sprinted from behind the tree when the barrage of feathers finished, running towards the bird that was limping on its foot.

When she reached the bird she began slashing at it and got some successful hits before a gale of wind pushed her, making her trip on her back. She rolled to recover quickly and was back on her feet ready to attack again. It was a repetitive slash and retreat until the bird was in a critical state and looked awful.

Hannah was confident that she was nearing the end of the battle but she was also struggling to stay awake with all the blood flowing out of her. The bird, on the other hand, had a different idea. It suddenly used a lot of mana and a gale of wind flew from behind Hannah and towards the bird, it was terribly hot wind and she winced in pain as it passed.

The wind was spiraling near the bird. Creating a vortex of wind. It was summoning a tornado, in her current condition, Hannah doubted she could fight the bird while a destructive tornado was slowly killing her. She needed to stop the bird before it was done, she steeled herself once more and gave all her energy into this last attack. Planting her foot into the ground she leaped forward, reaching the bird in under a second, and swung at its head feeling her blade pass through bone.

The bird's head came clean off and she was left covered in blood. She soon realized that the winds unlike the bird had not stopped and been spiraling even faster. Without anyone to control them they were going on a rampage. Blades of wind cut her repeatedly while she felt her breath being sucked out of her.

Behind Hannah, she felt a sudden major burst of mana and as her vision faded she saw Lily coming closer and reaching out to her.

"Hannah please don't go!" screamed Lily.

"I can't feel my legs anymore," sobbed Hannah. She felt alone and pulled in Lily for a hug. "Please don't leave, stay with me, I don't want to be alone," she whispered, feeling her strength fade away.

"No, stay with me! Please Hannah," sobbed Lilly. Seeing the terrified expression on Lily's face, Hannah felt her body freeze and her breath stop.
