Chapter 6: Durandal
“Splash—”
The sound of running water echoed in the mist-filled bathroom. Through the frosted glass of the bathroom, a graceful figure could be seen.
The sound of running water suddenly stopped, and the bathroom’s glass door was pushed open. A golden-haired girl slowly walked out of the bathroom. She picked up a towel from the shelf, wiped off the water droplets on her body, and walked slowly toward her room.
When she reached the bedside, the girl’s footsteps came to a halt. She turned her head and looked at the bedside table, where there shouldn’t only be a desk lamp.
There should also be a photo frame with a picture of her and a man, along with a necklace.
The girl closed her eyes tightly, and when she opened them again, a glint of light flashed in her eyes.
“So that’s how it is…”
“It’s 2015 now, right? That means the Captain hasn’t joined Schicksal yet?”
The girl dressed herself properly and sat on the edge of the bed, placing her hand where the photo frame should have been.
“Although I don’t know what caused this time rewind and my memories haven’t been lost with it…”
A slight smile curved the girl’s lips.
“Since I’ve been allowed to retain these memories, I can’t blame anyone else.”
She raised her right leg, resting it on her left knee, and opened a semi-transparent blue virtual window in front of her.
“Call Alvitr.”
Alvitr was her direct communication officer, and she would usually call Alvitr for anything important.
As the most reliable tool, Alvitr almost never left the communication interface. Whenever she had something to do, she would call Alvitr and get an immediate response.
But… two minutes had passed, and she still hadn’t seen Alvitr’s virtual projection.
Where was she?
The blonde girl furrowed her brows.
“Alvitr?”
She attempted to contact Alvitr once more, but still received no response.
“Rita, are you there?”
So she was reluctantly forced to call someone else, although she had a slight reluctance to do so for some reason related to future events. She didn’t call this person right away, and the subconscious reason for her slight aversion was that she felt that something had changed in her relationship with this person.
“Is there something you need, Lady Durandal?”
The virtual projection of Schicksal’s most powerful maid appeared on the virtual window, and her familiar smile actually brought back some memories for the blonde girl, who was Durandal.
Upon seeing Rita’s smile, Durandal couldn’t help but smile herself.
Yes, no matter what happens in the future, aren’t they good friends in 2015?
“Well, there’s something I want Alvitr to help with. Where is she?”
“Alvitr?”
Rita glanced at Alvitr standing in front of her.
“I’m in the middle of giving Alvitr some instructions. What’s the matter? Just tell me directly, Lady Durandal.”
Alvitr: “?”
A question mark popped up on the tool’s head. What do you mean, giving me instructions? Vice Captain, weren’t you just talking to the new colleague beside you and not saying anything to me?
How did this get pinned on me?
Alvitr felt wronged.
“Giving Alvitr instructions, huh.”
Durandal nodded. Indeed, Rita was always strict with her subordinates.
“In that case, I’ll just tell you directly. Please relay this to Alvitr and have her take care of it later.”
“Understood, Lady Durandal.”
Rita bowed slightly. Although there was a virtual screen between her and Durandal, it had become a habit for her.
“I need to investigate some information that comes from Tianqiong City…”
Durandal suddenly realized something and immediately closed her mouth, squinting her blue eyes slightly.
“Wait a moment. I’ve received a notification from the Bishop. Communication is temporarily closed.”
The virtual screen in front of the two of them disappeared instantly. Rita’s smile disappeared for a moment but returned to her lips.
Something seemed a bit off.
Durandal looked at the wall, her brows tightly furrowed.
When she mentioned Tianqiong City just now, she seemed to have noticed a subtle change in Rita’s expression. Could there be something crucial about Tianqiong City at this moment for Rita?
Or was it her imagination?
Could it be the aftereffects of excessive competition with those women?
But she did feel that something was not quite right, but she couldn’t put her finger on it. This feeling of something being off became even more apparent during her conversation with Rita.
“Tianqiong City…”
Durandal took a deep breath.
“The Captain mentioned that he came from Tianqiong City to Vienna, and then it took him more than a year or two of hard work to finally join Schicksal, which is just one of Schicksal’s departments connected to the outside world.”
It was now 2015, and there was still some time before 2016, when the Captain would join. But at this moment, the Captain was already in Vienna.
So, it was time to search for the Captain’s whereabouts in Vienna.
But this matter must not be known to others, especially Rita.
She couldn’t be sure whether she was the only one who had enjoyed the gift of time travel, allowing her to return to the present with memories of the future. If there were others…
As long as she found the Captain, then no one else would matter. She could keep the Captain on the floating island of Schicksal, always within her sight, with no chance of interacting with the other Valkyries. If she achieved all of this, the final victory would undoubtedly belong to her, Durandal.
However, before finding the Captain, she needed to ask Alvitr to search for some information. After all, in this regard, Alvitr was the best tool.
