Chapter 42: Chapter 42: The Hidden One And Oberon
Chapter 42: The Hidden One And Oberon
_____
The Crypters refers to the members of Chaldea's Group A, a team of seven individuals corresponding to the seven Lostbelts in Fate/Grand Order (FGO).
There should have been eight members in Group A, but the eighth, Mashu Kyrielight, was saved by Fujimaru Ritsuka. Because of this, only seven members were left.
At the beginning, these seven were prepared to travel to singularities to help Chaldea complete its missions, but during the transfer, the control room exploded, and all seven died in the incident.
Under these circumstances, the entity known as the Alien God determined that the captain of the group, Kirschtaria Wodime, was suitable to serve as its preacher. Thus, the Alien God resurrected him.
However, Kirschtaria was deeply attached to his companions and convinced the Alien God to revive the other six as well, paying an unimaginable price in exchange.
From that moment onward, these seven Crypters began the story of FGO's second arc, tied to the history of the Lostbelts.
In the world where Elric resides, the Crypters who descended here is Beryl Gut, a man whose nature is shrouded in blood.
"Well, in just 20 years, he has revived Britain, recruited Morgan and Mellie... It's no wonder Vortigern values such a person so highly."
In the northern capital of Londinium, sitting beside Vortigern, the man named Beryl Gut is one of the seven Crypters.
Initially sent to the British Lostbelt by Captain Kirschtaria to complete his mission, Beryl stumbled upon this intriguing world along the way and decided to stay.
He is a deeply selfish man, driven by a worldview and emotions that ordinary people cannot comprehend. That incomprehensible, almost twisted love might well be the essence of who he is.
But no matter what else might be true, one thing is certain: Beryl desires power and seeks to merge with the Heroic Spirits.
As he sipped the wine in his glass, the first action he took upon arriving in Londinium was summoning a Heroic Spirit.
Heroic Spirits are legendary heroes whose remarkable deeds became the stuff of legend after their deaths, elevating them to objects of faith.
Originally, as the White Dragon of Britain, Vortigern had no intention of summoning Heroic Spirits.
After all, Heroic Spirits do not appear without a purpose, and Vortigern lacked the Holy Grail or the power to grant wishes.
Instead of wasting his magical energy on summoning Heroic Spirits, he focused on strengthening his hold over the northern borders and preparing to defeat Camelot.
However, as the Holy Flame known as Glory swept across Britain, Vortigern felt an immense, unprecedented pressure.
He had assumed his life would end at the hands of the King of Glory, but to his surprise, Beryl's arrival gave him a glimmer of hope.
Thus, the two struck an accord, resulting in the emergence of a Fairy King known as Oberon Vortigern.
This entity is not a Heroic Spirit of Pan-Human History but a Servant born from Britain's Fairy Kingdom.
Technically speaking, Oberon Vortigern is not a Humble King. As the fairy Oberon, he does not possess a grand historical origin.
If one had to define him, Oberon Vortigern might best be described as a bug—an anomaly that seeks to destroy humanity, obliterate Britain, and harbor hatred for all forms of life.
A handsome man with shadowy hair, deep blue eyes, and sharp, refined features—like a villain straight out of a fairy tale, a complete disaster. Oberon and Beryl immediately hit it off the moment they appeared.
One was a Crypters who sought to devour others, growing stronger to fulfill his twisted desires.
The other was a deceiver intent on annihilating everything, beginning with the king who brought hope to all and promised Britain eternal glory.
Add to this Vortigern, who had ruled the North for years and harbored ambitions of conquering the world, and the combination of these three was far more than the sum of its parts. The effect of their union exceeded even the arithmetic of "1 + 1 + 1" and grew into a force greater than threefold.
Listening to Vortigern recount everything Elric had done, Oberon chuckled mockingly. "I thought it would be something significant, but it turns out he's just a man relying on the Kabbalah Tree of Life."
"You see, the so-called Tree of Life is nothing more than a fleeting display of power. At best, it's a temporary deception imposed on the world to achieve such effects."
"After all, it's just a human. Nothing more than a pawn in my hands."
Reclining on a chair, Oberon's face was filled with disdain as he derided Elric. In Oberon's view, Britain's demise was a destiny that should have been fulfilled 10,000 years ago.
What saving this land? What continuation of the Age of Gods? It was all nonsense!
What Oberon desired was to execute the man called Reinhard publicly, to make everyone understand that darkness and death were eternal.
After that, he would turn his attention to Vortigern and Beryl, dealing with them in due time.
This... This was Oberon Vortigern's raison d'être!

As time went by, with Oberon and Beryl joining his side, Vortigern gained unprecedented confidence and launched an aggressive campaign against Britain. Except for Elric's Glory and the kings of the clans outside the North, all who opposed them either fell as dead souls beneath Vortigern's blade or surrendered to the Lord of the North.
Oberon, born with the innate ability of absolute lies and mastery over fantasy species, could temporarily duplicate Vortigern's White Dragon form. Despite their fundamental differences, in the eyes of the outside world, the two were indistinguishable.
This was a consequence of the world's interpretation of the addition of mystery.
Wherever the two White Dragons of destruction roamed, the land was reduced to ashes.
No meaningful resistance could arise in their wake. Against a force so far beyond its time, no one could stand against the combined might of Vortigern, Oberon, and Beryl.
Meanwhile, Beryl consumed countless fantasy species and other beings, using black magic to grow even stronger with every step.
Finally, the decisive battle against Glory was on the horizon.
As the confrontation loomed, Vortigern's demeanor was tense with apprehension. In stark contrast, Oberon brimmed with confidence.
Beryl, however, was filled with eager anticipation. He firmly believed that with the gifts bestowed by the Alien God and his vision far beyond his era, Glory could never stand as his equal.
If Glory chose to surrender and allow himself to be devoured, so much the better. But if he resisted, Beryl wouldn't hesitate to deliver punishment with the wrath of thunder.
After all, he was destined to lead the entire Lostbelt.
