Chapter 22: 22. A Ball and Its Secrets
I was pacing back and forth at the foot of the stairs, waiting for my girl for the ball.
"Calm down, man. Girls take their sweet time." Neville tries to calm me down, placing a hand on my shoulder.
The changes with the boy during this time were quite pronounced. Although he often still acts like a shy and insecure boy, he is no longer intimidated, even by our dear old Potions professor.
"I know, I know." I reply, but I continue my endless walk.
"Oh, there it is." he says, making me spin at an incredible speed, only to frustrate me.
Neville was standing with his arms open, with a blonde girl a few inches shorter than him. The girl was wearing little makeup, her hair was tied up in a kind of bun, or ponytail, but giving the appearance of still being loose.
It was really beautiful, like golden curls that were pinned up somewhere, but that soon fell and contoured her face, giving the girl an almost angelic appearance. Her dress, despite being quite frilly around it, was still tight, and already showed some curves of her body.
"Beautiful." Neville says with a smile, which makes a smile appear on my face. Knowing that I managed to get the boy out of his shell was a source of pride for me.
"You look great too, Nev." Hanna Abbott answers. Next to her, a brown-haired girl, with a much more developed and fuller body, was wearing a brown dress, wider and with more frills, but it still made her look very pretty.
"She's right Nev, that outfit suits you very well." Susan Bones says, with a friendly smile.
"Take your eyes off, they're mine." Hanna threatens, with an angry look at her friend. The two look at each other for a few seconds, and then burst out laughing. I just stare at that, not understanding their game.
Cedric and Cho arrive shortly after, and before I can even tell them how beautiful the couple looks, my eyes almost pop out of my head and I run to the girl who is coming down the stairs.
Her hair was tied up just like in the movie, her makeup was light, just to, as she once said, hide one or two imperfections (pimples, blackheads), but her dress was something else.
It was black, extremely tight on her body, outlining every little curve. At the waist, a skirt formed, giving space so that her legs could move more freely. Speaking of legs, she has beautiful legs.
With her mouth still open, my hand offers to help her, which she accepts with a smile.
"Hermione, you are the most beautiful woman in the world." I say, half-hypnotized by the girl.
The girl blushes deeply, being complimented, but soon her eyes go from embarrassed to furious.
"Looks like this will earn you a few extra affection, huh." Fred appears, wearing his Two-Face outfit.
"And for the love of Merlin, let these affections not be too much..." George trails off, but everyone knew what he wanted to say.
Looking at the pair, next to them were Alice and Katie, our Quidditch teammates. Seeing their glances towards the pair, I return the check.
"As for you, you'll need to work hard for some affection. Good luck, you'll need it." I reply, making the pair look at each other in surprise and then look at their girls. Seeing the sweat running down the temples of the pair, who join their partners and start working.

Contrary to what was shown, or rather, not shown in the films, there was a part of the champions' dance, in which there would be a change of partners.
It was an awkward moment, because everything was going well, until the time came when I had to dance with the Beauxbatons champion. Her Veela charm was not a problem, but the dancing was.
It was a slow song, so it was hard not to have our bodies glued together. She, being only a little taller than me, had a smile on her face, laughing at my embarrassment. That's because, let's say, she was feeling something in her delicate parts.
"Don't be like that, Mr. Potter. You're already much better than my partner, who just drools and tries something like that. I know this is a natural reaction of your body, and your hormones. As much as I should be irritated, I feel more flattered." she explains in her heavily accented English.
"Thank you and sorry about that, Miss Delacour. But being with the second best girl in the castle has that effect on me." I joke, trying to ease my embarrassment.
"Brave to call me second best. No woman finds that attractive, Mr. Potter." She takes it in stride.
"Harry, Miss Delacour, just call me Harry." I say with a smile. "Well, and sorry to be blunt, but my girl is number one, and there's nothing that can change that."
"Call me Fleur, and your words sound like a challenge, Arry." She has a mischievous look in her eyes, with an amused smile on her face.
"Never, Fleur. I may be a little brave, but I'm not stupid. That would be a challenge I'd lose, twice over." I say sincerely.
"So my second place is pretty close to first?" She says, even more amused.
"Only a madman would say no, but I need to keep my love life alive and well." I joke back.
-----
The party was going very well, but both Hermione and I were not very keen on staying there. It was written in our eyes how much we wanted to be in a place, just the two of us, enjoying each other.
"I'm going to take you to a secret place." I whisper in her ear. She nods excitedly, and together, we say goodbye to everyone.
Leaving the Great Hall, we run through the corridors until we find the first secret passage. Inside, I call Dobby, who takes us to the Chamber.
"What place is this, Harry?" She looks curiously around the entire length of the outside of the Chamber, where I fought the basilisk.
"Here, Hermione, is where I confronted Voldemort's memory and the basilisk in our second year. But this is not the secret place." I hold her hand and pull a piece of paper from my pocket. "Read this."
