The two strongest members of the new generation of the Uchiha clan were fighting ruthlessly in the room. They used every dirty trick imaginable, resembling street thugs more than ninjas.
After what seemed like an endless fight, both of them had exhausted their remaining strength. They collapsed onto the wooden floor with a thud, bruised and gasping for breath.
Uchiha Madara touched his nose, feeling an odd pain and a strange sensation. Tears uncontrollably filled his eyes.
"My nose is broken!" His voice sounded odd due to his broken nose.
Xuan smirked, thinking he had won. His nose hadn't broken, but his left eye was swollen from a solid punch, and he couldn't open it anymore.
"You deserve it!" Xuan retorted.
Madara didn't respond. He sighed and said, "But I have to admit, you're really something. I've never seen techniques like yours, one after another. Like that jutsu that turns you into a crow, or that chakra sphere, especially the one where you jumped through space yesterday. It's amazing. If it were me, I wouldn't have lasted three seconds. By the way, I almost forgot, Father wants you to come to his room. There's going to be a clan meeting soon, and I have to go too."
Madara spoke calmly, but Xuan narrowed his eyes. There was something significant behind his words.
Suddenly, Xuan pieced everything together and realized why his family had used him as bait. With Uchiha's power, they could have surrounded their enemies quietly. Perhaps they were using this method because it was effective, but there was more to it. It seemed like his family was testing him, and they didn't fully trust him.
Xuan thought about the situation and concluded that the mistrust probably stemmed from the strange jutsu he was using. After all, anyone seeing techniques unknown to the clan would be suspicious. Even if Xuan claimed to have created them, he was still too young to be taken seriously. Was he really expecting everyone to believe that he was the reincarnation of the Sage of Six Paths?
Xuan got up, resting his chin in thought. "What about Hinata Tamamo? Was he taken out yesterday? Was the shadow-level expert from the Hyuga clan, Hyuga Ten'nin?"
Madara sat up, confused. "Shadow-level expert?" After a brief pause, he understood that Xuan was referring to clan leader-level experts. Shrugging, he continued, "No, it was another old fool from the Hyuga clan. On the surface, the Hyuga only have two clan leader-level experts—Hyuga Ten'nin and the Hyuga clan's elder, Hyuga Shinso. As for Hinata Tamamo, he was saved, but one of the three elite jonin died, another lost an arm, and the last was severely injured. Even Hyuga Shinso was injured and spat blood, though we're not sure how bad it is."
Xuan processed the information and began to analyze it. It seemed like a lot to take in. Hyuga Shinso must have been lurking for a long time and didn't just arrive. And his uncle had reacted quickly yesterday, so he wasn't completely in the dark.
"These big clans of the ninja world shouldn't be underestimated," Xuan thought to himself, a sigh escaping his lips. He couldn't help but smile—this was what made it interesting.
Madara stood up and used chakra to heal his facial injuries. They had fought with their fists, so on the surface it looked worse than it was. In reality, it was just a few surface wounds, easily healed with chakra, leaving no marks.
"Go on, don't keep Father waiting. I have to attend the clan meeting too."
Xuan stood up as well and used chakra to clear the blood from his eyes. "Got it."
With that, he walked out of the room and headed toward Uchiha Tajima's room, pondering how to explain the unfamiliar jutsu he had used.
To establish a foothold in the Warring States era, various resources were essential: land, food, population, ninjas, and finances. But none of these were as important as two key resources: descendants and knowledge.
The next generation, of course, was crucial. A family could only thrive and continue for generations if it had enough descendants. Knowledge, however, was less obvious, but for a ninja clan, knowledge meant ninjutsu.
Thus, all clans valued ninjutsu immensely. Outside the direct line of the family, high-level ninjutsu was rarely passed down.
But Xuan was only five years old. After his battle with the Hyuga jonin, he had used unfamiliar techniques, like the crow clone and the spiral sphere, which the clan had never seen before. No wonder his family was suspicious.
He could claim that these techniques were self-created because of his talent, but how would he explain the Flying Thunder God technique? Saying it was self-created would be laughable—even Xuan didn't believe that reason himself.
Lost in his thoughts, Xuan arrived outside Uchiha Tajima's door.
He shook off his concerns and entered the room. Uchiha Tajima was kneeling at the table, so Xuan quickly approached and performed a respectful gesture. "Uncle!"
Uchiha Tajima, always serious, nodded slightly. "Sit."
Xuan awkwardly knelt down. He wasn't daring enough to act too casually in front of the rigid clan leader.
Uchiha Tajima took a bag and a long sword from below the table and placed them on the desk. "You did well this time. This is your mission reward."
Xuan opened the bag and saw it was filled with silver-white coins—the currency of the Warring States period. He didn't count them but simply tucked them into his clothes before picking up the sword.
He gently drew it, and a flash of cold light immediately appeared, catching his attention. The sword was about three layers thick, light and thin, a rare fine weapon.
"This sword is called 'Tianyun.' It's a replica of the legendary divine sword, 'Amatsu-Kami-no-Kiri.' Though it's just a replica, it's still a fine weapon. I've noticed you've been using kunai, so I'm giving this to you as a reward."
Xuan put the sword away and said, "Thank you."
Uchiha Tajima poured two cups of tea, pushing one toward Xuan. "I've heard about your performance last night. The Uchiha clan is thrilled to have such a talent in the family. But your strange techniques—where did you learn them? According to what I know, you haven't left the clan's territory for years, so there's no chance for any special encounters."
"Here it comes!" Xuan gently lifted the teacup to hide his expression, thinking about how to respond.
