Chapter 60: The Hyuga Elite Jonin
Madara grimaced as he touched the wound on his left arm, pain flashing across his face. Irritated, he said, "Fight? Are you kidding me? We can't beat him. I rushed in earlier just to test his strength. Honestly, my current power is slightly below a standard Jonin's. I do have a trump card that could take out a Jonin, but against an elite Jonin? I'm not so sure."
I also have a trump card capable of obliterating even a peak Jonin… as long as they stand still.
Gen silently mocked in his heart, his eyes locked onto their opponent's movements. The three tomoe in his Sharingan spun steadily. He spoke succinctly, "Fight, or flee?"
"Flee," Madara replied with equal brevity. Faced with such a massive gap in strength, fighting would be suicidal—a luxury Madara Uchiha would never indulge in.
"Let's go!"
Having made their decision, neither hesitated. Madara hurled two smoke bombs into the air, filling the area with a thick cloud that shrouded their movements. Gen quickly formed hand seals.
"Fire Style: Majestic Destroyer Flame!"
A massive wall of fire roared to life, creating a blazing barrier to cover their retreat.
Their forms turned into fleeting shadows as they darted away with incredible speed.
---
"Vacuum Blade!"
Hyuga Akikaze's blade sliced through the fire wall, effortlessly tearing it apart. "Pursue them! Neither is to leave here alive!" he barked, leading the charge with three other Jonin close behind.
The dense forests of the Land of Fire, with its towering trees and thick undergrowth, provided the perfect environment for such a chase. Gen and Madara dashed through the trees, leaving behind traps, explosive tags, and chakra threads to slow their pursuers.
Although Gen's Flying Thunder God Technique offered him a surefire escape route, it came with limitations. First, the technique's initial stage couldn't transport others. If he abandoned Madara, his companion would almost certainly die, a sacrifice Gen wasn't willing to make—at least not yet.
Second, the mission from his system remained incomplete. While the grain stockpile had been destroyed, the objective to eliminate the Hyuga Jonin was still outstanding. Failure would incur a penalty of 10,000 points—enough to doom him completely.
---
The explosions from their traps echoed behind them, momentarily disrupting the pursuers. However, the Hyuga team's superior speed kept shrinking the gap.
"Fire Style: Dragon Flame Bomb!"
"Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique!"
The duo retaliated with fire jutsu as their enemies closed in. Though countered by opposing techniques, the attacks managed to buy them a few seconds of breathing room.
"Eight Trigrams: Air Palm!"
"Eight Trigrams: Lion's Roar!"
"Wind Style: Great Air Shower!"
"Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!"
Powerful ranged attacks quickly closed the gap once more. While Gen and Madara dodged skillfully, their movements slowed slightly under the relentless assault.
---
"Damn these Hyuga!" Madara growled in frustration, launching another fireball. "Why are they so obsessed with me? What am I, their long-lost father?"
Gen remained calm, attaching another explosive tag to a tree as he passed. "This isn't sustainable. The distance is shrinking—we'll be caught soon."
Madara glanced back, growling, "Let's split up. Be careful. We'll regroup at the Third Elder's location."
Gen nodded. "Fine. You go left, I'll go right. Take this."
He tossed Madara a kunai marked with intricate seals. Madara's eyes widened as he examined it. "Is this for your space-time jutsu?"
"Yes," Gen confirmed. "Don't throw it randomly. And... can you handle luring away the elite Jonin?"
Madara's grin returned. "Oh, I get it. You're planning to—"
Gen smirked coldly. "Exactly. Separate and eliminate the elite Jonin. Same as last time."
Madara laughed heartily. "I like the way you think!"
---
Madara abruptly veered to the right, launching a fiery assault toward Hyuga Akikaze. "What's with you, old man? Are you my dad or something? Stop chasing me!"
Gen, meanwhile, turned sharply to the left, fading into the forest shadows.
"They've split up," one of the Hyuga Jonin observed.
Hyuga Akikaze sneered. "Do they think splitting up will save them? I'll take the one on the right. The rest of you, go after the other. Do not let him escape!"
Akikaze leapt into the darkness, while the remaining Jonin, along with the Ye Mu brothers, pursued Gen.
---
The wind howled as Gen continued his flight. A glance backward with his Sharingan revealed that three Jonin were still tailing him. Good.
He began scattering marked kunai at intervals, creating an intricate pattern. After several minutes, he suddenly made a sharp right turn, then another.
"This escape route... it's strange," one pursuer commented.
"Yeah. It's like he's circling back. Does he think this will help him escape?"
---
Finally, Gen stopped on a tree branch, the wind tugging at his cloak as he stood unmoving. His crimson Sharingan glared coldly at his pursuers.
"What's wrong, kid? Given up already?" one of the Hyuga Jonin sneered.
"Idiots," Gen replied icily.
Six shuriken laced with explosive tags shot toward them.
