Chapter 68: The True Objective (1/4)

Hyūga Tennin kept his composure. He never expected such modest offers to sway Uchiha Tajima. Negotiations always started low, with room for back-and-forth.

"What does the Uchiha clan truly want? Surely, peace is a common goal, and everything is negotiable," Tennin said calmly.

Tajima sneered. "Peace? Where was this talk of peace when you raided our clan's land? Where was it when you ambushed and killed our clan's young prodigies at our doorstep? And now you want to speak of peace? Ridiculous."

Tennin's expression remained steady. "It was a misunderstanding. The Senju clan orchestrated the conflict and manipulated us. We're victims too." With one sentence, he placed all blame on the Senju clan, a convenient scapegoat unlikely to refute the accusation.

"Hmph. In that case, there's nothing left to discuss," Tajima said coldly, clearly unimpressed by Tennin's excuse.

Tennin silently clenched his fist. He was tempted to unleash the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms right then and there, but the current situation left the Hyūga clan at a disadvantage.

"Twenty million ryo, five S-rank jutsu, 200,000 kunai, two million explosive tags, and 200 tons of copper," Tennin offered, doubling the initial terms.

Tajima's eyes gleamed with amusement. He suddenly said, "One hundred million ryo, thirty S-rank jutsu, one million kunai, ten million explosive tags, a thousand tons of copper, and ten thousand sets of ninja gear and armor. Also, surrender the mastermind behind the previous attack—along with the girl."

"What?!" Tennin was stunned. These demands were far beyond the Hyūga clan's limits. Moreover, surrendering Hyūga Tamamo was absolutely out of the question. Her status as a member of the main family alone made this impossible.

Bang!

Tennin slammed the table, his voice tinged with restrained fury. "Clan Leader Uchiha, I came here to negotiate, not to be toyed with. Let's stay reasonable."

Tajima smirked mockingly. "Negotiate? Negotiations happen when both sides have comparable strength. Does the Hyūga clan still have the strength to bargain?"

Tennin rose, his pale eyes narrowing as chakra surged through his body. The air around him seemed to twist under the weight of his presence. "The Hyūga clan may not be the strongest, but anyone who pushes us to the brink will have to reckon with our ability to fight to the bitter end."

"Is that so?" Tajima stood as well, his overwhelming chakra shrouding him like a storm. His Sharingan spun into view, each tomoe clearly defined.

The two Kage-level shinobi stood in deadlock, their battle-ready auras causing the very air to freeze. Suddenly, the tomoe in Tajima's Sharingan began to rotate. Tennin let out a muffled groan but smirked coldly. "Genjutsu? I anticipated this. Before coming here, I sealed the chakra of my clan's elder within me. It will keep me immune to genjutsu for an entire day."

Tajima remained silent for a moment before withdrawing his killing intent. He smiled faintly, his Sharingan fading. "Actually, you only need to agree to one condition: cede us the Shinazuma Copper Mine. In addition, disavow your status as a Senju-affiliated clan, and stay out of shinobi conflicts for ten years. Do this, and we will withdraw."

Tennin's pale eyes flickered as he processed the demand. His heart sank. The Shinazuma Mine was the lifeblood of the Hyūga clan's economy.

"Uchiha Clan Leader, don't push your luck. Forcing us into a corner will benefit no one."

Tajima replied evenly, "Am I forcing you into a corner?"

Tennin hesitated. The mine was crucial to the clan's finances, accounting for 70% of their resources. However, the prolonged siege had already taken its toll. Each day of delay brought more casualties—children and future heirs to their clan.

Finally, Tennin exhaled deeply. "Fine. I agree. By tomorrow, the Shinazuma Mine will belong to the Uchiha clan, and you will withdraw."

Tajima laughed heartily. "Excellent! The Hyūga clan, a true noble family, indeed has courage!"

Tennin, however, sighed, his tone bitter. "Both the Senju and I underestimated you. This entire conflict—it was a masterful gambit. You abandoned your northern and southern defenses for this? I suppose the Shinazuma Mine wasn't even your true objective. What you really want... is Kazama Valley."

Tajima's expression darkened. "Hyūga Tennin, be careful what you say. This entire operation was simply a response to your previous provocations."

Tennin shook his head. "I won't tell the Senju. They've chilled my heart with their inaction. If I were in Senju Butsuma's position, I might have done the same, but that doesn't make it right. Tomorrow, after you retreat, you'll march straight for Kazama Valley. The Senju won't be able to react in time, and the valley will fall back into your hands."

Tajima's eyes grew cold. "Will the Hyūga interfere again, like before?"

Tennin sighed, looking as if he had aged a decade. "The Hyūga clan keeps its promises. We'll remain isolated for ten years. But I have one question: how did you convince the Kaguya clan? Without their sudden assault on the Senju, your defense of Kazama Valley would've collapsed, even with your sacrifices in the north and south."

Tajima's reply was calm. "It wasn't difficult. I promised them one of our mines—a copper mine."
