Chapter 105: Chapter 105: The Meeting of Hundred Faces, Pain, and Uchiha Obito—A Gathering of Masterminds
"Sh... Sharingan…"
On Hundred Face's end...
Having completed his major mission of obtaining Indra's chakra from Sasuke Uchiha, Hundred Faces didn't immediately dispel the Wood Clone Technique. Instead, he embarked on his next task—going undercover in the Akatsuki organization!
However, Hundred Faces didn't immediately use the Empty Ring he obtained and infuse his chakra into it to attract Nagato's attention. Instead, he used the Mayfly Technique to travel to the Kinrin Mountain Range, located between the Land of Earth and the Land of Grass, infiltrating a castle at the base of a foggy mountain. There, he cast a combination of Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique and Binding Technique on the castle's owner.
The owner, Hiruko, had yet to acquire four different Kekkei Genkai, but his body had already been transformed by the Chimera Technique from a frail middle-aged man into a monstrous young boy. Now, trapped in the blood-red illusion space with black iron stakes piercing his body, Hiruko looked up at the moon-like Sharingan in the sky, his eyes filled with both awe and terror as he stammered, "Y-you're a survivor of the Uchiha clan?!"
Squelch—
In response, the sound of a sharp blade pierced through Hiruko.
With a shattering sound, the blood-red illusion space collapsed, and Hiruko's consciousness returned to reality. Before he could clearly see the Uchiha survivor who had cast the illusion, his vision spun, slowly being engulfed by darkness.
His head had been severed from his body.
As Hiruko's headless body collapsed, Hundred Faces, the one who had decapitated him, placed a hand on the corpse to absorb his chakra.
"No drop, huh?"
Muttering softly, Hundred Faces wasn't particularly disappointed as he looked at the now-dead Hiruko.
The Chimera Technique was indeed powerful, capable of stealing others' Kekkei Genkai. It far surpassed Kakuzu's Earth Grudge Fear and was considered a forbidden jutsu of the highest order, especially in smaller ninja villages.
However, like Earth Grudge Fear, the technique would transform its user into something monstrous. Even if one were to obtain "immortality" by absorbing five Kekkei Genkai, it would likely be an ugly, incomplete immortality, similar to Kakuzu's but slightly better.
Even if Hundred Faces had successfully obtained the Chimera Technique, Yagyu wouldn't have bothered to merge with it. Compared to the capabilities of his game system, the Chimera Technique was simply inferior.
After storing Hiruko's body in a sealing scroll, Hundred Faces unleashed a killing spree within the castle, eliminating all of Hiruko's subordinates, regardless of gender.
Although Hiruko's underlings were far weaker than him, Hundred Faces got lucky and managed to obtain two blue orbs and four white orbs.
Without even checking, Hundred Faces knew these orbs contained chakra attributes or ninjutsu.
However, he vaguely recalled that Hiruko's top aides also mastered the Chimera Technique, allowing them to fuse and transform into monsters. Hopefully, those orbs wouldn't include that ability—he didn't want anything useless.
After annihilating Hiruko's faction, which had been waiting for a solar eclipse to make their move, Hundred Faces finally proceeded with his own plan.
Performing a series of hand signs, Hundred Face's body and appearance began to change. His height grew from 168 cm to 175 cm, and his black hair and eyes transformed into white hair and black eyes.
Instead of taking on the appearance of a middle-aged man, he now looked like a 17 or 18-year-old youth.
Simultaneously, the chakra fluctuations within him also shifted. Even if Sasuke Uchiha were standing in front of him, he wouldn't recognize this person as the same "Uchiha Yusuke" who had trained him for a year.
After using the Impersonation Technique to thoroughly alter his appearance, Hundred Faces retrieved the empty Akatsuki ring he had obtained from Orochimaru and infused his chakra into it.
"Hmm?"
As soon as Hundred Faces's chakra entered the ring, Nagato, who was far away in the Hidden Rain Village, immediately sensed it. A look of surprise crossed his face as he muttered, "Since when has Orochimaru become so bold? No, this chakra belongs to…"
Sensing something unusual, Nagato's expression changed as he quickly performed a series of hand seals.
In the dark space where the Gedo Statue resided, the ten raised fingers of the statue lit up, and two of the fingers began to glow with colorful light.
The light rapidly formed two figures, their bodies and faces vague, with only their eyes being clearly visible.
One figure had eyes with purple ripple patterns, while the other had normal eyes.
"Are you one of Orochimaru's subordinates?" asked the thought-projection of Pain as soon as it appeared before Hundred Faces's thought-projection.
"No, but I do have some ties to Orochimaru," Hundred Faces said with a smile, glancing at Pain's projection. "So, you're the leader of the Akatsuki—Pain?"
"What is the purpose of contacting me?" Pain asked impassively.
He didn't bother questioning how Hundred Faces had obtained Orochimaru's ring; such matters were irrelevant. The fact that this person had acquired the ring meant they either served Orochimaru, had defeated him, or had stolen it.
At this moment, Nagato had already locked onto Hundred Faces's location through the ring. Once the conversation ended, he would dispatch Black Zetsu to investigate Hundred Faces's identity.
"As expected of the second person to possess the Rinnegan since the Sage of Six Paths. You're truly impressive." Hundred Faces chuckled before his eyes suddenly transformed into three-tomoe Sharingan, and he introduced himself. "I am Hundred Faces, a collector of forbidden jutsu and Kekkei Genkai, and an enthusiast of dojutsu."
Seeing Hundred Faces's Sharingan, Pain's Rinnegan narrowed slightly as he asked, "Are you a survivor of the Uchiha clan?"
"No, I'm just a regular dojutsu enthusiast." Hundred Faces shook his head, and his Sharingan disappeared, replaced by the veins and white pupils of the Byakugan.
"Byakugan?!" Pain's composure finally broke as he asked again, "Who exactly are you?"
There were those in the ninja world who possessed multiple Kekkei Genkai, but Nagato had never seen anyone wielding the powers of both of Konoha's great clans—Uchiha and Hyuga.
If Hundred Faces had merely transplanted both dojutsu, Pain wouldn't have reacted this way. However, Pain had witnessed Hundred Faces activate both Sharingan and Byakugan perfectly, indicating mastery of both.
This was the first time Nagato had encountered such a person.
Hundred Faces didn't answer directly, smiling instead. "Let's meet in person, Pain."
"Very well. Do you want to choose the location, or should I?" Pain nodded.
Nagato, now curious about Hundred Faces's identity, dismissed his previous suspicion that he might be one of Orochimaru's subordinates.
Someone with such power and audacity couldn't possibly be under Orochimaru's control.
Therefore, Nagato wanted to meet Hundred Faces in person. If the latter's strength was impressive, he might consider recruiting him to fill the vacancy in Akatsuki.
As for potential danger?
Nagato didn't entertain the thought. After all, he was the wielder of the Rinnegan, an invincible god.
However, Hundred Faces's next response caused the "god" to falter slightly.
"I'll come to you."
Leaving behind those words, Hundred Faces's projection vanished.
"Such speed… and…" Nagato, sensing Hundred Faces's rapid movement toward the Hidden Rain Village, finally showed signs of shock and wariness. He muttered, "How does he know Akatsuki's headquarters location? And what gives him such confidence?"
Even before their meeting, Hundred Faces had given Nagato a show of strength.
Not only did he know about Akatsuki, but he also knew the location of their headquarters, and now he was brazenly heading there alone, seemingly unafraid of facing a Rinnegan wielder.
This level of confidence could only come from immense strength or some mysterious ability that made him unafraid of Nagato.
Recalling Hundred Faces's earlier introduction, Nagato formed hand seals, using the ring to contact Black Zetsu and "Uchiha Madara" (Obito).
Before long, a swirling vortex appeared in front of Pain's projection.
The figure of Uchiha Obito emerged from the vortex in a distorted shape.
Shortly after, Black Zetsu rose from the ground as well.
"Nagato, why summon me at this time? Has something happened?" Obito asked in a deep voice, using his Madara persona.
"Someone contacted me using the Empty Ring, but it wasn't Orochimaru," Pain began, recounting the encounter he had just had with Hundred Faces.
"He can perfectly wield both Sharingan and Byakugan?!" White Zetsu exclaimed in disbelief, wide-eyed. "Is that even possible in this world?"
Yes! Black Zetsu thought to himself.
That person was none other than his own brother, the legendary Sage of Six Paths, Otsutsuki Hagoromo—the only being to ever wield all three great dojutsu.
However, Hagoromo was a unique case. There couldn't be a second such person in this world.
Therefore, Black Zetsu confidently stated aloud, "It must be a secret technique."
"I think so too," Pain said calmly. "He's very confident. He didn't fear that I could track his location through the ring, and now he's rushing toward the Hidden Rain at incredible speed. He must be trying to prove his power and knowledge."
"Interesting…"
By this point, Obito had recovered from his initial shock and now seemed intrigued. "Let's meet this man who wields both the Sharingan and Byakugan."
With that, Obito used Kamui to conceal his presence in the Kamui dimension, hiding himself in the shadows.
Black Zetsu also used Mayfly Technique to disappear without a trace.
A little over half an hour later, Hundred Faces finally appeared before Pain.
But his method of arrival shocked Nagato, Obito, and even Black Zetsu, who was hidden within the earth.
Hundred Faces's body rose slowly from the ground, as if riding an elevator.
"Mayfly Technique!"
Nagato, Obito, and Black Zetsu all immediately recognized the technique.
"So, the Rinnegan can be manifested in corpses—this is the power of the greatest dojutsu, huh?" Hundred Faces remarked as he studied Pain's body, then smiled meaningfully. "There's no need for the two of you to hide. Your brief flashes of chakra and that chakra fused with the earth stand out too much."
"Who are you, and how do you know Zetsu's technique?" Obito asked, stepping out from the shadows and scrutinizing Hundred Faces with his Mangekyo Sharingan.
Although Hundred Faces's chakra wasn't particularly strong, his confidence and demeanor suggested a deeper power. Could this be a clone?
Black Zetsu also emerged from the ground, with White Zetsu in a state of shock. "How do you know the Mayfly Technique?"
"Simple, you taught me," Hundred Faces said, amused. "Your white half has quite a useful set of techniques. It took me a while, but I managed to capture one and merge with it."
"So it was you!" White Zetsu gasped. "A while ago, several of my clones went missing. That was your doing?!"
"That's right." Hundred Faces nodded.
Pain, on the other hand, picked up on something more important and asked, "Your Sharingan and Byakugan—were they taken through a secret technique?"
"Yes!" Hundred Faces spread his arms, smiling with pride. "After decades of research, I developed the ultimate technique that allows me to fuse with others' bodies and corpses to steal their Kekkei Genkai and secret arts!"
As if showing off his achievement, Hundred Faces waved his hand, causing moisture in the air to condense into a sheet of ice.
Suddenly, his body emitted strange sounds, and sharp bones sprouted from his body.
His eyes first transformed into the Byakugan with its bulging veins, then into the three-tomoe Sharingan.
With a smug smile, he said, "I can perfectly control four Kekkei Genkai with no conflict between them. I am now the most perfect being in the ninja world!"
"…"
Pain and Obito both fell silent.
What expressions Nagato and Obito had hidden behind his mask were unknown, but Black Zetsu seemed to relax slightly.
He's strong, Black Zetsu thought. If he truly stole these Kekkei Genkai through secret techniques, he's undoubtedly a once-in-a-millennium genius.
But… it's still the limit of what mortals can achieve.
He had no Mangekyo Sharingan, and his Byakugan was just a normal one. Clearly, stolen Kekkei Genkai had high requirements for evolution, possibly even making it impossible to evolve.
Therefore, he wasn't a threat.
If this was his main body, with that level of chakra, he was just a decent pawn at best, nowhere near capable of threatening Black Zetsu's millennium-long plans.
Nagato and Obito seemed to come to a similar realization.
Their initial shock quickly subsided, and Pain spoke calmly, "You didn't contact me just to show off, did you?"
"Of course not."
Hundred Faces's smile faded slightly as he said, "I want to join your organization."
