Chapter 16: Chapter 16

The moon was dark, the wind eerie, and the cat's eyes gleamed ominously.

Ikeno, still tense, shouted, "Come out! Stop hiding and playing tricks!"

Suddenly, there was a "dong!" and a small figure jumped out from the shadows, meowing twice.

Ikeno sighed in relief. "Oh, it's just a stray cat. It scared me to death."

But then he frowned, glancing back at the two Root ninjas' bodies lying still. "What happened to these guys?"

Activating his super perception technique, his night vision kicked in, and he spotted the small black cat in front of him. Its golden eyes glowed eerily, almost like Orochimaru's sinister gaze. He noticed something even stranger—a third eye on the cat's forehead and a pair of black angel-like wings.

Ikeno, an animal lover, knelt and softly coaxed the cat closer. He had adopted many stray cats before and recognized their behavior. The black cat approached, sitting near him, staring with an intense focus.

Suddenly, Ikeno froze in surprise. This was no ordinary cat—it had a third eye and wings! His mind raced. "Is it here because of my Chakra? Or is it something more sinister?"

While contemplating the cat's intentions, it smiled—yes, smiled. That twisted smile under the moonlight sent chills down his spine.

Ikeno realized he had to be cautious. He pulled out the Kusanagi Sword, ready to defend himself. Just then, the cat leaped forward, and Ikeno instinctively unsheathed his sword, pointing it at the creature. However, something strange happened—the Kusanagi Sword emitted a white energy that cut the cat, even though Ikeno had stopped his hand.

Black-red blood oozed from the wound, and the cat unexpectedly rubbed against him, purring affectionately. It wasn't attacking. Ikeno knelt and apologized. "Sorry, I thought you were coming for me."

At that moment, the system chimed in:

[Ding! Announce task sign-in. Heal the cat to complete the task.]

Ikeno, relieved, performed the Healing Jutsu, enveloping the cat in soft green light. As its wounds healed, the cat licked his hand, its trust clearly won.

[Ding! Congratulations to the Host for completing the task. Please stroke the cat's head to finalize the contract.]

With curiosity and excitement, Ikeno touched the cat's forehead. Instantly, an electric surge ran through him, and a scroll appeared in his mind.

[Congratulations to the Host for obtaining the Black Cat Demon Summoning Technique.]

Ikeno signed the scroll, forming a contract with the Black Cat Demon. He now had a Summoning beast. While a little disappointed that it wasn't something more powerful like the Ape Demon, the system reassured him that he could obtain other Summoning beasts, even tailed beasts, in the future.

Curious about the cat's abilities, he watched as the black cat disappeared, leaving him alone to ponder over the mysterious deaths of the Root ninjas.

Later that night, he lay in bed, but couldn't sleep. His curiosity got the better of him. He used the Summoning technique to call the Black Cat Demon again.

"Bang!" A massive black cat appeared, so large it barely fit in his room. It was much bigger than before.

Ikeno stared in awe before asking sheepishly, "Uh, could you shrink a little?"

The cat understood and transformed into the size of a kitten. Ikeno smiled. "I'll call you Ritoru from now on."

The black kitten meowed happily, tail swaying.

"Do you have any special abilities? Combat? Perception? Support?"

Ritoru remained silent, simply licking its fur. Ikeno sighed, accepting that Ritoru might reveal its powers in time.

Just as he was falling asleep, Ikeno sensed a disturbance—a presence on the roof. Another assassination attempt? He quickly summoned Ritoru.

Ritoru expanded to its larger form and leapt onto the roof. In an instant, the roof was torn apart by the cat's sheer strength. The wooden beams, already weak from years of wear, couldn't withstand Ritoru's power, and the roof caved in.

Ikeno couldn't help but laugh at the destruction. "I guess I really do need to move after all."

Ritoru was already in action, chasing after the assassin, a Root ninja who realized that the mission had gone wrong. Sensing the incoming Anbu from afar, the Root ninja attempted to flee. Ikeno could have easily used Raikiri to bring him down, but he wanted to test Ritoru's abilities.

"Ritoru, chase him!"
