Chapter 2: Chapter 2
After returning to the clan, Uchiha Chiba and his cousin parted ways to head home separately. Despite being relatives, their families lived in different places.
Upon arriving home, Chiba found the house empty. Did my mother work overtime again at the hospital? he wondered aloud.
Uchiha Chiba's mother, Uchiha Genka, was a medical ninja who had risen to become the director of Konoha Hospital. This was a remarkable achievement, especially considering she was a member of the Uchiha clan. The strained relationship between the Uchiha and Konoha's leadership made it hard to believe that someone from the Uchiha clan could hold such a high position.
But there were reasons for this. At the time, Konoha had not yet experienced the Nine-Tails' attack, and the relationship between the Uchiha clan and Konoha's high-ranking officials was not as strained as it would later become. Though the first Hokage, Shimura Danzo, had a deep distrust of the Uchiha clan, there wasn't much he could do about it at the time.
The key factor was that Chiba's grandfather, Uchiha Mikoto's father, Uchiha Inada, was an elder in Konoha's dove faction. Chiba believed that his mother's role as the hospital director was part of a political move to balance the influence of the hawks and doves within the Uchiha clan.
Thinking about his mother, who was still at work, Chiba walked into the kitchen. Since she was busy, he would have to make dinner himself.
Cooking was no problem for him. In his previous life, he had been an expert chef specializing in asian cuisine, so preparing a meal was a breeze.
He quickly gathered the ingredients from the fridge and set to work. His hands moved swiftly, and soon a table was filled with a delicious spread of food.
However, after preparing the meal, Chiba didn't sit down to eat. Instead, he took out a lunchbox and filled it with food. The meal on the table was just enough for him, but he also needed to prepare a lunch for his mother.
Chiba's appetite was enormous—comparable to that of the Akimichi clan. But this wasn't due to any natural trait; it was because he had a system.
Yes, Uchiha Chiba had a system. But unlike the systems other protagonists typically received, his was... less reliable.
Who else's system crashes from world travel? Chiba thought, recalling the time the system malfunctioned. Fortunately, it had managed to send him a novice gift package before it broke down.
Without that package, Chiba might have seriously considered running away with his mother. After all, in a little over twenty years, his cousin, brainwashed by the Will of Fire, would destroy the Uchiha clan.
Chiba was confident that he could survive that long. He planned to use his mother's position as director to enter Konoha Hospital as a medical ninja after graduation. While medical ninjas were required to serve on the frontlines during wartime, they worked behind the lines, treating the wounded. This meant that they faced much less danger.
Without the system's aid, Chiba thought he'd probably top out as an elite Jonin. The chance of unlocking Mangekyō Sharingan seemed slim, especially considering that its activation required intense emotional trauma. At only seven years old, Chiba couldn't imagine such an event happening.
Now, let's look at the system rewards he received...
The novice gift package contained two talents and two skills.
Death Curse: A gift from the five multi-dimensional gods "Death" in the Marvel world, granting immortality.
Overgrowth: A talent that allows Chiba to absorb his own energy to strengthen and stabilize his body. The energy can include food, chakra, and even fairy chakra.
Haki: Through practice, Chiba can awaken the three types of Haki.
Flying Technique: Chiba can fly by consuming physical strength.
After seeing the rewards the system had granted him, Chiba's plan to run away with his mother vanished. Run away? This is my village! Why should I run?
By then, with the power of his abilities, he would be unstoppable. His left hand could wield the tyrant's strength, his right hand could open the Eight Gates, and even Uchiha Itachi or Obito would be nothing compared to him.
As for an Uchiha who didn't rely on Sharingan but focused on physical skills—Chiba was ready to rewrite the Uchiha legacy.
But despite his new powers, there was one problem. The Overgrowth talent, though powerful, didn't make him into the muscular powerhouse he imagined. No matter how much he ate or exercised, his body remained normal, unlike the hulking muscles he had hoped for.
However, thanks to this talent, Chiba had grown much taller than his peers. At just ten years old, he stood around 170 cm, far exceeding the average height for children his age.
Upon realizing the potential of his Overgrowth talent, Chiba had wanted to refine chakra to enhance his body. At just three years old, he asked his mother to teach him chakra refinement, but she rejected the idea, fearing it would interfere with his physical development.
Reluctantly, Chiba started focusing on his appetite, which was far greater than that of an average child. This was his way of compensating for not being able to refine chakra at an early age.
Now, Chiba's path was clear. He would become a physical ninja and seek out Might Guy to learn the Eight Gates technique. He had witnessed Guy's power in the future and believed that this physical technique was the key to defeating even the mightiest foes.
One Night Guy from Might Guy kicked Madara's body in half. If I had that power, I'd obliterate Six Paths Madara!
Just as Chiba was lost in his thoughts of becoming a powerhouse, his stomach rumbled, pulling him back to reality.
Alright, time to eat first.
After touching his stomach, Chiba began to dig into the delicious food laid out before him.
Once he had finished eating, Chiba stood up and rubbed his now full stomach.
"Alright, I'm full. Time to deliver lunch to mom."
With that, he packed the lunchbox and left the house.
At Konoha Hospital...
Uchiha Genka had just come out of the operating room, exhausted but satisfied. She looked at her colleagues and said, "Okay, everyone has worked hard. Today's surgeries are finished. Go home and rest."
"Thanks, Master Genka. See you tomorrow," her colleagues replied, grateful to leave after a long day of intense work.
As they were about to leave, they noticed Uchiha Chiba standing at the end of the corridor, holding a lunchbox.
"Oh, look, Master Genka! Chiba is here to bring you lunch again," one of them said.
"Wow, I really envy you, Genka," another added. "Your son is so well-behaved and thoughtful. He understands your hard work at such a young age. My kid just plays games and makes me angry."
"Yes, I've heard Chiba's the top student in school. Even Tsunade's brother can't beat him."
Uchiha Genka smiled warmly. "You're all exaggerating. He's not as amazing as you say."
Seeing the smile on their director's face, everyone chuckled. Master Genka is being humble again.
After entering the hospital, Chiba found his mother chatting with her colleagues. When they saw him, they politely excused themselves.
"See you tomorrow, Genka. Bye, Chiba," they said as they waved goodbye.
Chiba nodded politely. "Goodbye, Uncle. Goodbye, Aunt."
Once his mother's colleagues had left, Chiba followed her into her office.
"Chiba, you don't have to bring me lunch every time. I can eat by myself," Uchiha Genka said, smiling at her son.
Looking at his mother, who was nearly as tall as him, Chiba felt a pang of guilt. She had been such a devoted mother, raising him on her own after his father had died on a mission when she was still pregnant.
Chiba wanted to ease her burdens, so he insisted, "It's okay, Mom. You need to eat on time for your stomach's sake."
Genka's heart warmed at her son's concern. "Alright, I'll eat."
As she opened the lunchbox, she smiled at the familiar dishes inside. "These are my favorites. Thank you, Chiba."
Chiba nodded and stood up. "I'm going to practice now. You should come home early, Mom."
After swallowing a mouthful of food, Uchiha Genka nodded. "Don't practice too late. Come back early."
