Chapter 6: Training
The next day, Kakashi woke up feeling both nervous and excited. The mandatory eight hours of sleep had left him refreshed. It seemed odd—after a month-long coma, he shouldn't need that much sleep—but the truth was, his body had been under immense stress during that time. Naturally, his sleep felt blissful.
After waking up, Kakashi didn't go straight to see the Spider Sage. Instead, he followed the instructions to start with cardio. He began running around the massive spider web that served as the holy land.
The layout of the web left him a bit stunned. While Kakashi had never been to the other holy lands, he had heard of them. This one was strange. It was less like a sanctuary and more like a maze—no, something even weirder. The pathways often ended abruptly, with openings in the ceiling or the ground that led to other tunnels.
At first, it felt disorienting, but Kakashi reminded himself that this place was built for spiders, not humans. "I need to adapt," he thought. "Just a little. I'm still human, after all."
He adjusted quickly, running along walls and ceilings without the need for chakra. What initially felt strange soon became natural, as though his body instinctively knew what to do. Running through the twisting tunnels—up, down, left, right—he gradually increased his speed. His old limits felt irrelevant now; the transformation had heightened his abilities.
Meanwhile, the Spider Sage sat on his throne-like chair made of stone, eyes closed. He could feel the vibrations of the web and smiled to himself. "Energetic, isn't he?" the sage muttered. "Well, let's see if he can keep up during sparring."
A few hours later, Kakashi appeared before the Spider Sage, having finished his cardio and physical training.
"So, you're done warming up?" the sage asked.
Kakashi nodded silently, following as the sage led him to an open space. Kakashi froze in surprise. The area had no roof, revealing the night sky above. He looked at the glowing moon and frowned.
"Wait... wasn't it daytime?" he thought, realizing how lost his sense of time had become inside the labyrinth of the cave.
Before Kakashi could dwell on it, the sage began. "Before we start sparring, I need to teach you some basics about how we fight."
Kakashi listened intently.
"First, while we possess what humans call 'super strength,' we rarely rely on it. Speed is our true weapon. You might've noticed it during your running."
Kakashi nodded again, recalling how naturally his speed had increased during cardio.
"Second, our senses are unmatched. Training them will be your top priority. You can wait until you unlock the first level of the Spider Sage Mode to enhance them, but I'd rather save you time. Either you awaken your senses to trigger the sage mode, or the sage mode will trigger your senses—it doesn't matter which comes first. Either way, we'll get there faster if you start now."
The sage paused, looking at Kakashi. "Luckily, you're already a veteran shinobi, which means the basics are second nature to you. That's an advantage."
The sage then held up a thick wooden stick. "Now, cover your eyes with this headband."
Kakashi eyed the stick warily. "What's that for?"
"It's a wooden stick," the sage said matter-of-factly.
"I know that. But why—"
"Stop asking obvious questions and do as I say. Save us both the extra effort," the sage cut him off.
Reluctantly, Kakashi tied the headband over his eyes, bracing himself. Before he could react, a sharp strike hit his shoulder.
"Your instincts are dull," the sage remarked. "You tried to predict the attack using your five senses, but that's not enough. Against someone stronger, there's nothing to predict."
Kakashi gritted his teeth, trying to focus on the sage's words through the pain.
"The sensory ability of the Spider Sage operates on a level beyond the five senses. It's instinct. When your body is in danger, it will tell you. Feel your body. Feel the world around you. That's the only way to awaken your senses," the sage lectured, delivering another strike.
Kakashi stumbled but got back up, determination in his stance.
"Well, this is going to take a few months," the sage said with a smile, feigning disappointment.
And so it continued. For three grueling hours, the sage delivered blow after blow. Kakashi was thankful none of the strikes were to his head—he'd had enough of losing consciousness for a lifetime.
"Don't worry, Kakashi. This is just the first step," the sage said, his tone almost encouraging.
Kakashi couldn't decide whether to take those words to heart or lament his decision to stay.
Meanwhile, in Konoha...
In the Hokage's office, Shikaku Nara and Guy stood before the Third Hokage, reporting their findings.
"Hokage-sama, there's been no sign of Kakashi's kidnapping in any of the Five Great Nations," Shikaku said calmly. "The only explanation left is his summoning scroll."
"Of course my eternal rival wouldn't be kidnapped so easily!" Guy declared proudly.
The Third Hokage glanced at the summoning scroll on his desk. "If Kakashi's disappearance is tied to this, it might be a blessing in disguise," he murmured, remembering Jiraiya's similar absence years ago.
A small smile formed on the Third's face. "Return the scroll to Kakashi's home. If my suspicion is correct, he'll return in a few years—and when he does, I doubt he'll want to appeare directly in my office."
"Yes, Hokage-sama," Shikaku and Guy said in unison, disappearing in a flicker.
Here's a polished version of your scene:
Back in the spider web, the Spider Sage was guiding Kakashi through meditation.
"To meditate and sense natural energy, you must first focus on the residual venom left by the Modifier Spider," the sage began, his voice calm yet tinged with his usual humor. "It contains traces of natural energy. Feel it within you, then extend your awareness to the world around you. See if you can detect a similarity between the two.
"As I said before, feel your body and feel the world. That's the way to start sensing natural energy. Keep comparing the sensations until you catch onto that familiar feeling—and when you do, don't let go."
The sage paused, tilting his head with a smirk. "Of course, this probably sounds complicated. Which it is. But hey, I'm not the one the world calls a genius. So, get to it."
Hearing the sage's mocking tone, Kakashi simply sighed and ignored him, choosing instead to focus on the task at hand. By now, he was familiar with the sage's peculiar mix of humor and bluntness—it was like dealing with someone entirely bipolar.
He closed his eyes, steadying his breath. "Feel my body. Feel the world." Kakashi repeated the mantra internally, trying to drown out the sage's occasional muttered quips in the background.
The sage chuckled softly, watching him. "This is going to take a while... but at least it'll be entertaining."
With that, five months passed.
